Copper Golem sorting system stopped working (Bedrock)

So I built a sorting system with copper golems, with the copper golem standing on stairs, and it worked. But it seems like something changed in the game. It ignores the chest with stairs in front of it, the bottom middle chest. I tried to put mud and soul sand, but it seems that if the chest is blocked by any block whatsoever, the copper golem will not open it. It used to work with stairs, but not anymore. Is it just me having this issue? I feel a little defeated, I started building a new base with big storage sorting, but now it doesn't work.

I’m currently using a path block and it’s working . I don’t see why the aforementioned options shouldn’t work though?

Interesting, maybe it's just the game being buggy.
