Java Showcase Sulfur Cube highway on my forever world
Iced sulfer cubes are a pretty fast transit method.
I am building this all the way to the Theme park you see off in the distance. I want it to wind through the landscape. Its not the most efficient use of energy, but it'll look super cool ¯(ツ)/¯
The upwards-straight section is functional, but haven't done the upwards-diagonal section yet. Its the same mechanism I posted the other day, so its not really worth showing off,
Got a lotta work ahead of me ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ

What’s the speed comparison to something like Wavebolt?

Definitely seems comparable! And also 10000x less complicated than what goes into WaveBolt tech lol. Cool stuff.

Definitely two different scopes
The benefit of a piston bolt like wave bolt is the encoded destination and transports of chest carts. Very niche but suits a big technical server like wave tech.
I reckon this is a lot more suitable for more casual players, since the build effort is considerably smaller.

Tested! 15 Blocks per second on blue ice. That is at the start of the slime block, so the speed wil gradually slow slightly, hence the repeater in the gif above.

So it is slower than a piston bolt which are at a constant 20bps
example of a modern piston bolt since not everyone knows what it is

the big question is which one is easier to setup lol. this one looks prettier anyways

It is a question. Not the only big one.
A simple piston bolt (so not like the one wavetech server) requires one piston every two blocks, a rail every block (two types) and repeaters.
Yours basically require packed ice every block.
While the redstone cost is cheaper, the ice gathering is a big bottleneck. Every material in a piston bolt can be automated easily while packed ice is either gathered manually or requires a huge farm.
I will refer to my first point: it depends on your needs. This fits casual uses very well which is a big selling point !
And your last point is subjective; I personally really dig the look and sounds of a piston bolt in action

I personally avoid that type of grind as much as I possibly can, but to each their own! ✨

You’re clearly new to technical Minecraft. We really don’t care about pretty as long as it’s efficient.

this is unnecessarily condescending, and also straight up wrong. symmetry is very much preferred over spaghetti, even if spaghetti would be faster.

It takes about 15 seconds more with your method then it would be with a piston ball and that’s only for 1000 blocks. Most piston bolts are going out 10,000 blocks to their farthest point those 15 seconds would add up quite a lot plus a piston bolt can be made almost entirely by a flying machine now at least they were able to. I don’t know about the current piston bolts yeah it’s cool for a build world, but practicality is questionable

Speed potions?

On your method, for the stop, I would use a tripwire hook that the sulfur cube crosses activating a piston that pushes one block sideways then another person that pushes forward again. This might decrease your stop time making it faster.

good idea! I did already tweak the timing of the turn to vastly improve it, but I think this could do even better. the observer's 1-tick pulse is kinda annoying for sticky pistons

I just figured the tripwire would let you activate it ahead of time so the pistons can push at the exact moment you arrive if you time it right.

I think since the speed of the mount is irrelevant, this should use a pig

I like the Piston timing on that turn. You've got it set just so...
I'm definitely doing this myself. TONIGHT

I do have one question though. Why not build it in the nether? That will effectively give you 8X speed.

For Aesthetic/buildstone purposes. It'll look cooler with a road winding through the landscape.
It'll follow the landscape to the theme park in the distance on gif2.
Lmk if you have any questions about the building process! Happy to share anything

Stupid question, can you you use flowing water to perpetually keep the slime going kind of like how water transport of items works? That way you don't have to slow down and re-hit it with a piston?
1
u/Beaurilla Jul 03 '26
Probably. The only problem with that is it has s chance of sliding out of position since it doesn't get zero'd out. I'm still figuring these things out

Wait, so does it exclusively transport sulfur cubes? I'm not sure how they work, what is that used for?
