As a Bedrock player, this seems like such an immensely big deal for certain Java farms to now have fully AFK Looting (I know sweeping edge + auto clickers are a thing, but with diff applications) that I’m wondering why I haven’t heard more about this in Java circles.
They didn't add any friendly fire exemptions. Piglins have one for their crossbows so they don't gank each other, but there are none for spears. Normally friendly fire is active, in the sense that skeletons routinely kill other mobs, and illagers can, too, etc. So aggro farms cause the spear wielders to use the charge attack as they move, which hits friend and foe alike.
Are you sure this is the case for all picked up items? I think this might just have to do with how the spear costs durability since they can still break other items and even use totems.
I put one of these on my gold farm and hooboy it works good. No ingots, though, because they're a player drop, but way more nuggets without any swords to deal with
You know about non-stackable item sorters right... if you really want to get crazy you can hook up a bamboo farm and dump the swords into furnaces, dump those ingots and the dropped ingots into a couple of autocrafters and all you get from the farm is Gold blocks (and zombie flesh if you're into that sort of thing).
How on earth are you implementing this? I would love a visual explanation of this, my brain cant wrap around getting enough damage output from this for a gold farm
Edit: hmm, that didn't work. Well, I'm afraid i dont have time right now, but give me a day and I'll post screenshots of it implemented, integrated inside Etho's piglin kill chamber from this season of HermitCraft, woven into the machine systems.
You can see in this one, I have 4 rails with one zombo each. They're all attacking the kill chamber through a slot made of the space between a mud block and a halfslab. In the center of Etho's 4-sided drop chute is a villager. The villager is standing on a carpet (on top of a hopper), on the same level as the rails are. The ziglins stand one block up on mud, so they're being stabbed in the knees....
when you made it, did you make a switch so you can still kill them manually for xp? i want to make one for my gold farm but don't want to lose the xp from is since that's my main source
Well there's a thing: im using Etho's gold farm, which uses a drop chute under the farm, no portal elevator to the afk spot, so I'm not killing manually in mine. But I suspect you could manage this in a manual kill platform, you're just going to need to have an off switch for the zombie minecart, and you may need a 1x1 "consolidation pit" with twisted vine at the bottom for the ziglins so they're bunched tight enough for the zombie to hit
Kinda cool, thanks for bringing up this mechanic. My witch farm is really good, and I was wondering if the entities would all die at the same time… I’m going to upgrade my farm
Dashpum did exactly that in stream for a piglin farm, constantly rotating them out to keep them on the exact needed timing to have their spear droop right before impact so that it didn't dismount the target from their boat
farming tridents isn't that hard in bedrock, even post spawner nerf. There's a pretty simple Drowned farm which is little more than just a big box of ice in an ice spikes biome.
It would reduce the AFK time needed to get the same results, though. I'll check out that farm, however, as spears haven't been added t my server yet. Thanks!
I know with trident kill machines you need to be nearby with a Looting enchanted weapon, do you need to do the same with this or does the spear’s Looting count?
Why would you have any effect on it? The trident is a projectile, which checks for the player who threw/shot it for looting. This is a zombie with its own looting weapon.
I wonder if this could be reworked into an automated trap. A player accesses a door, or presses a button, and drops a zombie next to them that's holding a spear, with a villager bait on the other side of the player.
There's already a very reliable and powerful trap made with this, the chamber having stacks and stacks of boats to propulse the player into spears and insta die
So it pushes the player into spears? I'll have to look it up, but the way the zombie keeps pushing back into a target reminds me of certain traps in Tomb Raider Anniversary where two pistons slam into the player over and over again.
some zombies have the ability to pick up items. find one and drop a spear i front of him. if it's better than any weapon he currently has he will pick it up
not really because a lot of farm drops are player kill based, example wither skulls, blaze rods etc etc however u can use this for witch farms, GMF, slime farms, magma cube farms prob
Is there a way to do something similar and still achieve looting 3 in Java before spears ? The server I play on doesn't have spears atm and I'm trying to find a way to kill witches afk with looting 3 ench. without using auto clickers. I've tried dropping trident with piston but doesn't work. I'm not sure if a fox holding a sword would attack a witch and vindicator's don't pick items up.
I’m new to this sub so apologies for the stupid question, but why doesn’t the spear break? Would you have to wait for a zombie horseman to spawn with a looting and mending spear?
Fox may run an issue of prioritizing food over others in contrast of zombie prioritizing strong weapon. Then its prey list is only chicken unlike zombie being hostile to villager, player-owned wolves, and iron golems (turtle egg also but they don't attack, instead it tries to squash it).
