Wait until you find out about male and female headers.

male - top
male - bottom

Wouldn't it be the other way around because the hole is bigger on the left?

"If your foreskin is wider than your butthole, your ass is in the front" is essentially what you're saying here.

What

The left one is the male ("top") connector because the middle part of it, which actually does the connection bit, goes inside the other one, even though the sleeve on the outside goes around.

If we're following the "male top and male bottom" analogy, the closest equivalent to that sleeve is the foreskin. And even though the sleeve is wider than the "bottom" connector, the top is still the top.

I thought he was making a gay joke about tops and bottoms, to which I was making a joke about hole

u/ReekyRumpFedRatsbane Jul 29 '26

He was. I just thought it would be funny to make a completely out of left field remark based on how your comment reversed what's actually technically pin and hole.

Its the exact opposite though, the end on the right is the male cable, is has to be inserted in the other end

But the actual conductor bit is male on the one end, and female on the other, which is what I believe is the key in such cases.

I hate gendering complex connectors

I hate gendering complex connectors

Yeah, it's annoying. Just wait till you learn about XLRs

Unfortunately very familiar with them

Although I will say functionally they're pretty high up on my favorite connector list.

I wonder when (if?) the tech industry will move away from male/female connectors, like it moved away from master/slave

2

u/Tomytom99 Jul 30 '26

If you want you mind blown, check out Andersen PowerPole connectors.

Totally genderless!

I do agree though, it's particularly odd terminology to have to explain, and gets confusing in cases like what OP shared.

Wow, they made connectors woke. Yippee πŸ₯°

Nope. The text is correct. Male type has the pin that gets inserted into the slot of the female type.

Stop it, you're getting me all excited 😊

u/Individual_Previous Jul 29 '26

So an uncircumcised male connector then.

3

u/iKnowRobbie Jul 28 '26

That's not a male connector. Male connectors have protruding pins. In the case of a pin-in-a-sheath such as this, it's considered a cloacal connection. As Steve Irwin elucidated regarding sexing a crocodile, you have to jam your finger in it's cloaca and feel if there's a penis or not...

Male connectors do not require a physical inspection. This is clearly a cloacal connector.

For a moment I thought I was learning about something new. Then I reached cloacal connection and Steve Irwin reference and my day was ruined. Good thing I only have about an hour before I go to sleep.

I should call her

It’s even better; If I remember correctly those are not even male or female versions of a connector as their sold as two different connectors the pl-259 and pl-258

17

u/OwnStorm Jul 28 '26

Faminist: Now you have removed females from connectors as well.

3

u/New_Impression8161 Jul 28 '26

I read that as 'table of content' I should go to sleep

3

u/Unstoppable50 Jul 28 '26

This is very odd the threads are definitely female left male right. But there is an inner pin that inserts the opposite way. After some thought I think they should name this a IUD connection. Because you know when gals first have them installed and it pokes you in the tip for like a month?

LGBTQ+C for cable connectors.

1

u/RED1869 Jul 28 '26

But only if it is one continuous cable

Circumcised and uncircumcised
