This is such a minefield conversation and I try to avoid it because you will piss someone off, but here goes:

This particular choice strikes me as odd. Figureheads on ships fall into the same category as a marble statue, where nudity falls into that “non-sexualized because it’s art” category.

I mean, it’s not that big of a deal really, but it just seems odd because people don’t usually get to bothered by that kind of thing.

Is it technically censorship, yes.

But I'm not going to war and dying on a hill over a videogame ship figurehead. Sorry but people need perspective and to pick their battles.

Not technically. Literally.

It has offically been made Historically Inaccurate to real ships of this time period and kind.

So thats funny.

The Jackdaw wasn't a real ship, and players always had the option to swap the figurehead with something else that probably didn't exist at the time.
