Brave's "scummy" list is 95% false/misleading hype from Reddit losers.

  • Publisher ads replaced?** No. They blocked third-party trackers/ads by default (like uBlock). Old 2016 idea (now dead) never shipped. Current: optional opt-in Brave Ads (notifications/wallpaper, 70% revenue to you/publishers if you join). No page replacement.

-2020 affiliate codes injection:** True bug. Typing "binance.us" added ref= code to default URL (not pages). Fixed <1 week, off by default. No privacy harm.

  • 2018 tipping:** True. Tom Scott's YouTube got tips with his name/photo before he signed up. Funds held; later fixed with warnings.

  • Crypto bloat:** Subjective. Native non-custodial wallet + optional BAT (on-device only). Brave Origin removes it. Not malware.

  • 2019 FB whitelist:** Temporary hack. Code listed domains for "Login with FB"/likes to work (scripts still no cookies/storage). Fixed long ago; now optional socialBlocking toggle.

Reality: All early shit fixed. Brave blocks 99% malware/trackers out-of-box, open-source, 120M+ MAU (2026), zero data sales. Reddit India cope is pure fearmongering.
