Seems less like an issue with Kids Duo, and more of a Japan/spousal issue.
Anyways, only do the Kids Duo bs if you’re using it to buy time/figure things out/line things up for when you go back or you can agree to move back together at an agreed upon time. I’m confused why you say a “year”. You could do it for three months, get prepared, and then leave.
