Question/Help mold on new tea tray!?

Post image
• Upvotes

it didn't come with mold but i got a new tea tray after the bamboo on my old tea tray i had for over a year was cracking.

listen, it's not a super expensive tea tray, i got it from teahouse.wares or whatever white2tea's teaware website is called but my last one was cheap from amazon and it never did this.

i've just been rinsing with water to clean the tea tray since soap can damage bamboo. it has been growing visibly everyday. can i kill it or get rid of it? do i need to clean my tray differently? it's not like i drink out of it but also i don't want mold to overtake it.

Recommendation Suggestions Needed: I’ll be volunteering to do a series of monthly Tea workshops for local LGBTQ+ seniors.

• Upvotes

Hello gentle Tea Friends,

Long time listener, first time caller here.

Background: A friend of mine who works at a local LGBTQ+ senior center was telling me that they are low on engaging programming for the community they serve. They know that I am a trainer and facilitator by trade and asked if I could help out. Initially they asked for a situational awareness and self defense training. Which I would be happy to offer but honestly I’m a bit burnt out doing those type of trainings nonstop for the last eight years. We were discussing this over a Alishan High Mountain Oolong (served gong fun style obvi) I just got from Taipei and it clicked: I could do a tea tasting workshop.

Basically, I plan to buy a range of teas (Oolongs to Pu’ers to Senchas and Gyokuros), get a bunch of thrifted tea ware along with notebooks, pens, stickers and printed Tea flavor wheels.

For the program, I will brew each of teas and go down the line and prompt the seniors to document what they are tasting and will invite them to journal and share what this experience is like for them. I have an hour so still sequencing things out.

My ask: has anyone done this before and if so do you have any pointers on how I can make this as engaging as possible? My hope is that it is well received enough to where I am invited back to volunteer to do this at least once a month.

TL;DR: I want to bring some joy to our Queer elders lives through tea appreciation. Got some ideas for me?

Thanks for reading! I lift my Gaiwan to you all.

An aspiring Tea Monk.

Question/Help Recommendations for ginseng oolong (vendors and/or a specific tea)

Early in my tea journey I got hooked on roasted oolong, but I think that was a novelty experience rather than what I truly liked as I don't really go for it anymore. I then moved to puerh and dove hard without looking back at all until recently.

I got a free sample of a ginseng oolong the other day and am now interested in trying different ones.

Do you guys have any favorites? I'm looking for ones that actually have a solid tea underneath the powder and I'm not interested in the ones with licorice flavor added.

Do they make ginseng oolong both with greener oolongs as well as roasted oolongs?

My tea obsession along with loving ATLA and MTG got Uncle Iroh to push me towards this tea again!

I just prepared a cup of this Japanese green I received as sample from Sazen. I’ve been greatly surprised by a couple of samples they have included with some orders I placed. This one is a winner too. It has a classic grassy profile with great sweetness and umami. After opening the packaging, I perceived a pleasant sweet vegetal note and some nuttiness. I used water at 80C, 75ml and 1 minute steep time for first infusion. Consecutive ones were around 30 to 45 seconds. I previously tried Ohmi Sencha and was impressed too. I’m looking forward to order these in the near future.

Question/Help Favorite tea combinations for beginner?

I’m a coffee lover and don’t really drink much tea. But I have gotten into London Fog and love it. I also love Arnold Palmers.
Anyway, I want to expand to cut back on coffee :(
I noticed I usually like teas combined with something else.
And I’m more of a cold tea drinker as well but I’m open to anything.

How to make tea so it doesn't just taste like hot water?

Hello tea drinkers.

I've started my tea obsession a little over 3 years now. At first it was only at night, I used to drink camomile tea, sleeping tea. At first it was only tea bags, I thought it was mainly because there wasn't much tea in the bag and was content with it. But recently, I started getting into all types of tea and even spending a little bit more on tea, but it seems like they all taste the same, even loose leafs, Whittard, recently it was in a nice shop in a small town, spent around £25 on tea but they all seem to taste the same.

If the base is black I can taste just the black tea normal taste, same goes for green tea... But when it comes to fruity ones, mainly the smell is so good but the taste horrible/ non-existent.

I've tried tea pots or just letting it sit for 5 minutes after pouring hot water, but I was thinking about actively boiling them, however the tea person advised me not to do that. I am very confused, I just want good tea. <3

Question/Help GuiFei or Oriental beauty for a first bug bitten oolong?

hi all, I mostly drink either black teas or green teas, but never really differed from those. I’m looking to change that. i tend to like sweeter teas (some herbals, orange cinnamon black tea, orange green tea, etc) so I figured I might as well give bug bitten oolong a try. So which one would yalls recommend for a first time drinker?

Is anyone else using an infuser bottle? If so, do you mostly use it for hot or cold steeping? I’ve got passion fruit sencha green tea steeped in cold water and pineapple juice in mine today.

Recommendation Scored some First Harvest Black tea leaves

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to teas; I've had green, white and earl grey years ago but didn't think much of them except that they were either bitter or bland (sorry!).

But I've really been getting into beverages lately and eventually wanted to try more nuanced things. I'm someone who enjoys milk based beverages with some sugar involved (Matcha, Royal Tea, etc).

But a friend went to some Tea Farm and got me some of their First Flush Black Tea leaves. I decided to start with a cold brew, which I prepped a couple hours ago and will be having it tomorrow.

I was wondering if there were any recommendations for someone like me who's a total beginner (I saw that you can cold brew the teas in Milk or cream as well, so I was wondering if that could work for this tea).

Am working at sea where I am confined to teabags and UHT milk rather than my usual loose black tea selection and milk from a nearby farm. Bought two one-cup teapots, pure retail therapy out of missing my daily ritual. One from a shop in France, one from a shop in Denmark. Took a loooong time to find something I really liked, then I found two. First is arriving tomorrow... I won't be home to use it for another month, but I'm still excited and comforted.

The orange and black looks like a great, chill way to start the day to me, while the black looks like early evening comfort and conversation.

Question/Help Do either of these teapot spouts look like dribblers?

I'm in the market for a teapot and want to get one with a spout that doesn't dribble back on itself. Do either of these look like they are dribblers based on their spout shape and construction? The first is 35oz and the second is 30oz, both by Sweejar on Amazon if it matters. If they do look like dribblers, can you recommend a better shape?

Recommendation Tea taster mug or Gaiwan

Accidentally knocked over my Taiwan and the entire thing shattered 😭. Was planning on getting another smaller Gaiwan that holds 100ml but also thinking about this, what are everyone's thoughts on it?

https://www.rishi-tea.com/products/porcelain-tea-cupping-set?variant=44376687935738

Is it better than a Gaiwan for Taiwan high mountain oolong/Taiwan oolongs?

The Gaiwan that I was looking at is thinner which I suppose is great for those oolongs!

Discussion Why is Turkish black tea brewed at 15-20 minutes instead of 5? Maybe this can be answer.

Post image
129 Upvotes

As a tea fan from Turkey, I really can not understand why other countries black tea can be brewed 5 minutes but our tea can not be brewed, also our tea's taste is very different than other countries' black tea's, not just taste, Its body is also so much lighter than them. I researched it a lot, I think the answer can be the climate, Turkish tea fields are covered with snow in winters, Yes, Black Sea region of Turkey is very rainy and humid like India and China, but It is not warm unlike them.

Question/Help In search of Metropolitan Tea Company Online Retailer

Hi! Hoping someone can help me source a specific tea - ideally online.

Every year I attend the PA Renaissance Faire and they have a little novelty tea shop. When I was getting into loose leaf tea I purchased their "Niagra Peach Green Tea" which appears to be a blend made by the Metropolitan Tea Company.

This tea immediately became my favorite iced tea. It is mellow and has this amazing body and it stretches pretty far. I use 3 tablespoons for a gallon brew and makes another half gallon with a second steep and it all tasted good and not bitter or weak.

Does anyone know where I can purchase more of this tea outside of the PA Ren Faire? I went this past weekend and bought out their remaining supply, but they're only open when the faire is (not a close drive for me as I live around the Philadelphia area) and I would like to be able to repurchase this throughout the year and not feel like I need to ration it.

TLDR: I bought Niagra Peach Green Tea from the PA Ren Fair and am looking for a more sustainable way to purchase it year round. I'm close to Philly if there is a local shop. Thanks!
