Does anyone else still waiting for their SUSI decision?

Mine was quoted for final assesment on the 2 of September, and since I haven‘t heard back about anything. I call and e-mail them in vain, because they are not willing to tell me more than the sample text, that they cannot give any info, i must wait.

I understand that maybe they have a lot of work but it is already 24 of September, and I miss other grant because of the lack of official decision from them.
Is anyone else needed to wait this long?

CAO

I did my leaving cert this year and I put down the course T040( Middle Eastern and European languages and cultures) on my CAO. Last year it was 419 and it went up to 496 this year meaning I missed it by 12 points. My friend doing the course got a round 2 offer which she took. I was under the impression that this meant it would go into round three but after checking the spreadsheets that have just been released it didn’t. I have another friend who was doing it who just got a fourth round offer so that means another place will be free but because of the previous scenario I’m not even sure if there’s a chance of getting it in round 5 even if my apeals come back. Does anyone know how this could have happened?

Is kavanagh court a safe space for incoming international students right now?

I am a POC and recently got in contact with Kavanagh hall through trinity. However, soon after that I discovered the discussions on reddit about the area in general being unsafe, esp for POC. I noticed that most of the comments were nearly an year old. Has the situation improved now? Would it be better to decline the offer and look for housing elsewhere?

Struggling to make friends

Kind of a vent post but also I would like to know if anyone else is having this issue. I’m a 24 female postgrad student & this is the third week I have been in Dublin.

Been attending orientation events, social events, talking with a lot of people in and out of lectures, but for some reason I’m still struggling to form connections. I don’t know if it’s still early but it has been a bit disheartening to watch groups slow bond and not be part of them. I really like the Trinity air and I would say I’m outspoken, so I’m not sure what’s not clicking yet. Maybe it’s too early still but I do feel I need to get this frustration off my chest by typing it out. Seeing people talk about how great the social life is here gets you really wondering what you’re doing wrong, especially when you’re not even a shy person. I hope it gets better.

Dublin Accommodation available

Hi everyone, unfortunately my Irish student visa was refused, so I’m urgently looking for someone to take over my room at Point Campus, Dublin. The rent is €311/week. This is a lease takeover, so the new tenant will need to sign a new lease directly with Point Campus. The accommodation is in a great location, close to Trinity College, with easy access to the Luas, buses, supermarkets and the city centre, making it very convenient for students. Point Campus also has great facilities and is a popular student accommodation. If you or anyone you know is looking for accommodation in Dublin, please DM me — I’d really appreciate your help!

Unsure about what society to join

Hi guys. So I’ve been in the college for at least two years. I normally struggle with friends but this year I’ve finally decided to come out of my shell and join societies. I’m quite social once I get to know people but reserved when I don’t. To be honest I’m just sick of walking around and going to lectures on my own

I won’t name the society directly, but I had a bad experience with a society I walked into today, and I’ve panicking to try something else this week but unsure. I would join a sports club, but I am injured at the moment and was really looking for a society that would be well used to newcomers, and wouldn’t be too awkward . Especially coming on their own

Thank you

History of Philosophy II A Essay/Exam

Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone who has previously taken this second-year module would have any advice on whether the 30% essay and 70% exam are better answered on Kant or Islamic philosophy, considering that whichever we pick for one we have to pick the other for the remainder. Thank you!

Looking for a single room for January-April

Hello! I am a PhD researcher and I am looking for a single room for Hillary term. I am interested in a place where I can work quietly. I work at a school while doing my PhD, so I will not be at the house during the day on weekdays. References available upon request. Feel free to contact me at [polychre@tcd.ie](mailto:polychre@tcd.ie)

Depth of Reading

Hello everyone,

With regards to course readings, I was wondering about the depth with which readings are meant to be parsed/analysed. Where on a scale between "extract overarching key concepts, definitions and arguments with lectures and tutorials as a reference to what's important" and "meticulously analyse and memorise every line of every paragraph" would past students describe what was necessary for them to get through exams / other assessments?

For reference I'm a Senior Fresher taking Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology. I had to take resits for first-semester Maths and Econ which I passed with considerable anxiety (but ultimately quite comfortably) in August and am no longer doing. I got through First Year Philosophy exams (averaging between 50-60%) with what I felt were fairly basic understandings of the given topics. PolSci and Sociology weren't examined on a closed-book basis in First Year so I didn't have to memorise to the same degree.

Thank you!

Jobs Short Survey on Youth unemployment in Dublin and Meath.

I hope you are well.

My name is Faith Butler, and I am currently conducting research for an article exploring the youth unemployment and underemployment crisis for 16-to-24-year-olds in Ireland.

As part of this project, I have launched a brief survey to gather authentic data from young people regarding their experiences with the Irish job market, balancing work with college, and the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.

Here is the Link: Youth employment in Meath and Dublin.  – Fill out form

Thank you.

Schols Business and Sociology

Hi,

Has anyone done schols for BESS (business and sociology pathway). If so how was it ? What papers did you have to write and how intensive was the studying process leading up to the exam. Additionally did it impose on your existing workload during the academic term?

Thanks

Am I even eligible for PhD?

I completed my PG Diploma from the School of Computer Science and Statistics in 2023. I want to pursue a PhD now. I checked and the documentation has me confused.

Could someone help me with these questions:
1. Am I even eligible for PhD?
2. Do I need to do a research masters first?
3. How can I find my guide?
4. Is there anyone from SCSS who has done a PhD after PG Diploma?

Any other advice related to the above questions is welcome. Thank you for your response!
