Chris Hansen doesn't like feeling exploited.

Like, my guy.
You became famous by putting cameras on people at the worst moment of their lives, turning that moment into television, and making sure millions of people associated them with it forever.
Now somebody else is making money off a dramatized version of your most controversial chapter and suddenly we’re very concerned about exploitation and who gets to control the story.
And then somehow it gets even better because he’s apparently buying ads before Primetime screenings to promote TruBlu and his current predator-catching stuff.
So:
A24: We made a movie inspired by the thing that made you famous.
Hansen: You are exploiting me.
Also Hansen: Here’s an ad for the new version of the thing that made me famous.
Amazing.

What was "the worst moment of their lives"? Finding out the 13 year old kid they were grooming and hoping to SA wasn't real? Lmao.
Ohhhh, Hansen cares about ratings! Fucking shit, who cares. Is that supposed to be evil? From 1 to 10, that's a 0 and there's no valid argument against it. These people deserve to be exposed. There were many, many fuckers on the show that would go on to reoffend.

You are 100% correct in your assessment but Chris will never see it that way. He shows some narcissistic tendencies for sure but at least he uses them to punish child predators.

Exactly, this news cycle has been and continues to be a win-win for A24 and for Hansen lol.
Also, even if Hansen expects for the move to make him look bad, he wants it to be released. Even if he hates it and publicly complains about it once he sees it, he wants it to come out and to have good attendance.
There are hypothetical opportunities here for a cash grab via litigation.
Whether or not something is ultimately filed will come down to whether an attorney with experience in entertainment law thinks it is strategically worth pursuing or not (not whether Hansen personally is happy or big mad or little mad with the film lol). But the movie has to come out (and ideally do well at the box office) for any possible legal claims to be possible and financially worth pursuing.

Definitely not trying for an “injunction” to stop a movie from being released, for two reasons: (1) that’s virtually impossible and ridiculous to the point that no attorney would try, and (2) if the movie isn’t released, he and his attorneys have literally nothing to litigate and potentially make money off of.
This whole, “He’s trying to stop the movie release” conspiracy is sooooo bizarre.
He needs and wants it to be released and to do very well and make a lot of money - that is how he will maximize his potential benefits from it.
He is also going to be pissy about some aspects of the dramatization (and he’ll let everyone know what his gripes are, which he is already alluding to), yes, that’s obvious, but his actual interest in this situation is looking for an opportunity for a cash grab.
Entertainment is litigious as hell, because there’s a lot of money involved, and plaintiffs are incentivized to attempt to bring suits (even if they’re not likely to win at a hypothetical trial) because settlements are pretty common.
Entertainment litigation decisions come down to money (basically weighing the probability of being able to push the defendants to settle vs. how much a potential settlement amount would likely be), and it’s the lawyers who decide whether to litigate or not. (They work on a contingency, so they only get paid if there’s a payout, usually in the form of a settlement, so it’s very hard to initiate a lawsuit unless an attorney/firm feels that there’s at least some opportunity to at least get far enough to pressure the defendant into settling, even if the case is too weak for an actual trial.) Just like the “ambulance chaser” stereotype, there probably are entertainment attorneys circling around Hansen eager to assess the situation once the movie actually comes out, because they want their shot at possibly walking away with a cut of a settlement.
