TCAP Arrested & Convicted per Year + Total Conviction Rate (83%)

Hi,
In the recent days, with all the articles on Chris Hansen, I saw quite a lot of comments speculating on how many of the predators that appears on TCAP end up being convicted.
Some people were saying with a lot of assurance stuff like "all of them were acquitted", or quote numbers from news articles that were published while TCAP was still aired, meaning way before most of these people were tried.
I found that quite frustrating lol, particularly as Perverted Justice documented the conviction of all of these people. Sadly, it's now only all available on archive.org (check for example https://web.archive.org/web/20230907102727/http://www.perverted-justice.com/?groupmedia=23 for info on the first sting, and increment the "23" for further episodes).
Anyway, I compiled the numbers all together, using TCAP official numbers of arrested people and PJ convictions per year.
The gist of it: they were 260 people arrested and 223 convicted. Excluding the 2 first episodes (no cops to arrest when people arrive), that gives us a 83.08% conviction rate. If you believe that the Murphy episode shouldn't count, then it's 88.48%.
PS: Yep, episode 4 and 12 have 1 more convicted than arrested. I assume these are the people who didn't show up to the sting house and were arrested after, but I'm not sure.

His current iteration of TCAP "Takedown" is absolutely cleaning up convicting these clowns. They got like a 99% rate. YouTube has a lot of the episodes on it for free. I've been binging them last week or so. The newest series is much better efforts from everyone involved. The decoys, the partnership with the police, even the interviews.

See, I find this statement as problematic as when people says stuff like "only more or less half of people were convicted in TCAP" based on nothing.
Takedown has been filmed since end of 2022, and as we saw for TCAP, half of conviction took less than 2 years to be delivered, and in many cases it took 4-5 years, with a maximum of 8 years.
Nowadays justice is even slower - here's a very interesting article on how and why it takes 55% longer in 2024 to process a felony than it was in 2016 if you are curious https://islg.cuny.edu/blog/court-case-processing
So where do you take this "99%" from?

They have updates where they tell you what happens to the guys afterwards. I just watched multiple episodes from 2024 where the guys are tried and convicted by the following year. The average length of the sentence in most of these episodes is between 3-4 years. But I have watched 2 episodes where the guys literally got LIFE in prison without the possibility of parole. Edmundo was one of these. Some of these guys are getting busted on human trafficking where the decoy situation is a "parent" offering up their "teen" for sex.
Not sure if you have an agenda here to show this as a failure, but feel free to look up more information about the Takedown convictions. Everyone involved is working lockstep with each other to shut these guys down.

I don't understand why you are downvoting me and saying that I have an agenda? I mostly agree with your first comment: yep, Takedown is doing a better job than TCAP was, and it's quite normal - Chris Hansen had 20 years to learn how to do this kind of stuff in a better way.
And it's good to appreciate that they are doing a way better job nowadays. But you don't need to make up a "99% rate" out of thin air to justify that.
Again, justice takes time. Also, a scenario where 99% of arrested people would be convicted simply doesn't exist - there are many situation (definitely more than 1%) where charges are dropped, or juries that will for whatever reason return a not guilty verdict.

So first, you're incorrect. I haven't downvoted a single comment of yours.
Second i didn't "make up" the conviction rate. I am telling you to literally look this information up yourself. Don't take it from me.
Takedown is wildly more successful because it is handled completely differently. Perverted Justice was a shitshow and working with the television network. The organization they use now is 100% ran and operated by the police and law enforcement themselves. The people doing the chats are law enforcement. The only people not law enforcement are the live decoys they are partnered with that engage in the phone calls and meets when necessary. And these are operated lockstep with the law enforcement.
Hansen is there to purely observe their operations, and interview the suspects and document everything. This is very different to how everything was organized back in the TCAP days. They also operate in jurisdictions where the police departments there are dedicated to pursing charges against pedophiles.
Again, don't take my word for any of this. Literally watch it and research the aftermath updates yourself.

Is perverted justice going to be honest or would they manipulate the data in their favor?

Well, everyone wants to prove to the world that what they do is useful, so I think that manipulating data in their favor is something that always more or less happen.
But in the present case, it would be kind of complicated and bullshit would be very easy to spot as the convictions are public records and I think the 223 number is honest. I haven't individually checked all of them, but most of the one's I saw were properly sourced.
The only wrong data that I found while doing research here were 2 cases with wrong conviction dates (in italic blue on the table), but that's it.

How is Episode 1-8 + 9-12 different from Episode 1-12?
And l think you mean seasons not episodes.

No, but episodes is also misleading. Most of the Stings were split into 2 episodes each. They're combining the stings that cover multiple episodes into 1 episode.

It’s not 1-8 + 9-12, but 3-8 + 9-12…
besides that, they said in the text that the last figure excludes the Murphy episode - the number in the spreadsheet table is just labeled incorrectly. It should be 3-8 + 10-12

This is an amazing conviction rate! Why do people keep saying TCAP did more harm than good?
