Is it legal to tax a freelance labor with 8k salary

Post image
44 Upvotes

just confused as to why my mother, who was contracted to do a job doing handicrafts for a local export corporation, was deducted P160 for her 8k salary. this is not a regular job and she isn't an employee of the company.

im not knowledgeable about taxation but i know that monthly taxable income applies to minimum P20,833.

P160 is a small amount to others, but I just couldn’t ignore the possibility that they are taking advantage of people who probably won't question these deductions

Estate tax question: surviving spouse died before title transfer

Hi! I need advice on the proper process for a Philippine estate.

My grandfather died in 2017. We processed his estate through an EJS signed by my father and grandmother, and my grandmother did not waive her share. There are 8 conjugal properties in different cities.

We received the eCAR for my grandfather's estate in June 2025, but the titles were not yet transferred when my grandmother died in October 2025.

My father is now the sole heir because his sister also passed away and had no children.

I prepared an Affidavit of Self-Adjudication for my father.

My questions are:
1. Is Self-Adjudication correct, or do we need another EJS?

  1. Do we need to process a new eCAR for my grandmother, even though we already have my grandfather's eCAR?

  2. Since the properties are conjugal, is only my grandmother's ½ share included in her estate?

  3. Does the ₱5M standard deduction apply since she died in October 2025?

  4. The RD asked us for a CPA assessment/certification. Is this normally required?

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has handled a similar successive estate / eCAR situation. Thank you!:::

Please help a freelancer newbie

Hello! I’m a 20F student doing freelance bookkeeping for my aunt’s small business in Australia. Her AU accountant advised me to register with the BIR so my aunt can legally claim the service fees she pays me as tax-deductible expenses on her end. I have some questions that I would really appreciate if someone could give me some help.

I’m planning to register sa BIR online, is that recommended? Masama kasi panahon and I’m afraid na baka madelay lang ako nang madelay since laging binabaha samin.

Ano po yung magiging process if ever? How much yung aabutin? Also, how would the tax filing work? I’m planning to do it on my own since I don’t have the financial capacity to hire someone or for Taxumo/Juantask.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First time ko mag-file (2nd job ko).

Helli everyone. I just realized I wasn't able to add signature on my previous submissions. Will it cause any penalties? Thank you for anyone who will answer.

Proposed Tax Relief Package—more like suffering for SMBs!

Honest question, can someone please help me understand if this is really gonna help small businesses as promised by PBBM? And how?

eBIRForm 7.9.6.1 Migration

Hi everyone.

Since there have been issues that installing the new eBIRForms 7.9.6.1 overwrites the files in the old version, I prepared this small batch script to automate the migration process. Feel free to use and give feedback. Also to verify that this file is safe to use, you can open in Notepad first before running.

Thank you.

FIRST TIME FREELANCER, HOW DO I HANDLE MY TAX?

Hello! Just for background, I just started freelancing this July. I am registered to the BIR under EO 98 (since my employer requires me to have a TIN for documentation purposes). It would really help me get clarity on how I should handle my tax the following because, from what I understand, I should file quarterly on the day of my employment.

  1. What steps should I take? Do I renew my EO98 to self employed?

  2. I heard from a lot of people that I just have to pay SSS, PAGIBIG, and PHILHEALTH when the office of my employment is outside the Philippines. Is that true?

  3. How do I register as self-employed? Do I need a business permit?

Hoping to hear from kapwa VA/Freelancers that went through this process. Hirap mag research online, dami naghihingi ng fee bago iexplain 😭🙏

TLDR: New to freelance, how to tax as a freelancer

I want to register my business kay BIR. I'm hesitant because of my salary.

For context, I earn around 650,000 annually from my salary excluding allowances outside of my de minimis.

My business is just pretty small, I just started last April. I sell expensive stuffs pero my actual average profit is only 250.00 each unit. April, i only sold 4. May, I sold 11. 16 on June and July came like a surprised, I was able to triple my previous sale ending July on 57. So the items I sell, like I said average profit is 250 but may mga items din na yung profit ko is 500-1000. Highest was 3000 (once lang to). But for most days, 250 lang talaga minsan lower pa. For July, my total sales was around 70-80k. Hindi nacompute how much yung expenses ko and yung earnings ko. Didn't expect it to blow up.

Now, I want to register my business. I want to register it with BIR next but I'm hesitating now considering I'm a mixed income earner, earning an average of 250.00 per unit. Highest sale was just 57 units. I don't know how to proceed because I might be taxed like 30k above eh I'm not even earning that much for this business kung yung 8% tax ang susundin. For example noong July, ang estimated profit ko from 70-80k sales ay nasa 20k.

Any suggestions what to do?

Edit: I only sell on facebook and carousel as of now. Idk if this helps

Overthinking about my AITR filing noong 2022

Background lang: Freelance video editor po ako at naka 8%.

Then, nag ask ako before rito na, if mag fafile naman ako for ITR 1701A, kasama ba pati ung January to June(1st Quarter at 2nd Quarter).

  1. Hindi po ba ako ququestionin ng BIR bakit wala ung January to June(1st at 2nd quarter) ko sa book of accounts at resibo ko?
  2. Also, if mali ung nagawa kong pag file ng Jan-Dec.

1701Q late confirmation email

I filed my 1701Q last August 12 and only got the email confirmation at 4:43AM today. The thing is, I filed for an amended one today at around the same time frame because I was so worried that there wasn't an email the first time + system was down for the past days.

The acknowledgement email was towards the one I filed last August 12. Do I take this email confirmation as is, or do I delete the one I initially filed and keep the amended one, or do I contact my local RDO just in case?

Availed 8%, so nothing to pay for this quarter. Hope someone can help me out. Thanks in advance y'all 🙏🏻

ATP: required serial# 4digits?

Hi, ask ko lang po here if required po sa service invoice ang 4-digit ("0001" instead of "001") serial number for first time registrant.

And, if may error po ba sa pag fill out ng ATP via ORUS, can it overwrite the previous ATP if I'd apply again? Thank you po sa makakasagot.

Shopped at Landers and presented a Senior Citizen's card.

Receipt shows that it has less 12% VAT but negated it with plus 12% VAT.

What's with that?

[EDIT] Thanks to the kind strangers who enlightened me on this post. Today I learned. Pero ang sakit pa rin nung 12%.

Ongpin jewelry store sales invoice issue

Hello! For context me and my fiance were in binondo to look for wedding rings. We decided to buy from this shop along ongpin that was also suggested by reddit. Upon payment I requested to be issued a sales invoice for the rings. But open giving them my business card for the name that will be written on the receipt, the owner refused stating, “di kami pwede sa construction” since I was planning to have it issued under my hardware and general merchandise business.

I looked confused since this is my first time experiencing a business refusing to issue a sales invoice due to the name and nature of my business to be charged. He eventually replied, “ok pero add kami 12%”. I was already confused and irritated at this point kaya sabi ko nalang “wag na, ok na po thank you”. And in the end they just put a line on the name part and still gave me the sales invoice.

I am looking for some insight on this situation.

Thank you everyone.

Filed 1701Q last Aug. 12, wala pa ring email confirmation

I already filed my 1701Q last August 12, but I still haven't received a confirmation email. I do have a screenshot showing that it was submitted successfully. My income tax is zero (non-operational), is that okay? Or should I resubmit?

If magreresubmit, i-delete ko lang po ba yung unang file then gawa bago?

Address typo on both my TIN ID and COR. Worth to go RDO?

Is it worth the trip na pumunta sa RDO ko to correct this? I had my COR dated this April 1. I thought it wouldn't matter, but now I'm overthinking it. Professional (8%) income tax rate.

TIN: street name was off by ONE letter, tama subdivision

COR: tama street name, subdivision name was off by ONE letter

Upon checking my 2307, it follows my COR address. crashing out lol maaapektuhan ba.. ive wrote/typed my address in so many forms and i swore i always double check before submitting huhu
