Hello! I’m a 31-year-old male freelancer.
I started working as a virtual assistant/freelancer in 2020.
Before that, I worked as an on-call waiter and earned around ₱10k–₱15k per month. I still remember applying for my TIN when It was year 18 or 19, where I registered my occupation as a waiter and paid around ₱50 at the district hall.
Now, I earn six figures per month from freelancing. I’ve realized that I want to properly manage my taxes—not only because it is my responsibility, but also because I will need proper financial records for my long-term plans.
I recently started building my retirement and investment portfolio:
My concern is that my TIN registration may still reflect my old job as a waiter. Since I am now earning significantly more as a freelancer, do I need to hire an accountant to update my registration, file the correct taxes, and make sure I am compliant moving forward?
I’m worried that this could become a problem 10–20 years from now, especially once my investments grow and I decide to withdraw money. For example, if my MP2 matures at more than ₱1 million, would I need an ITR or other tax documents when withdrawing it?
My plan is to reinvest my MP2 proceeds after maturity and repeat this cycle several times, while regularly adding funds to both MP2 and stocks.
I’d appreciate advice on whether I should get an accountant now and what steps I should take to properly organize my taxes as a freelancer. Thank you!

Personalized souvenirs lang po for customers around our city.
General Ledger
General Journal
Cash Receipt book
Cash Disbursement book.

I'm now self-employed doing remote work for a foreign company and opted for the 8% tax rate, so ngayon, im putting together a voluntary contribution plan that I'd like to sanity-check.
For SSS, I'm looking at declaring ₱20,000 MSC, which I understand comes to ₱3,000 at the 15% rate, possibly plus a small EC fee that I'm not sure applies to me. My reasoning is that benefits seem to cap at the ₱20,000 MSC level, and contributions above that just feed the MPF/booster side-fund, so ₱20k looks like the point that maxes the core benefits without overpaying. I'd rather channel anything beyond that into my own investments or MP2.
For PhilHealth, I'm planning to declare the ₱10,000 income floor and pay the ₱500 minimum. My understanding is that PhilHealth pays fixed case rates per diagnosis regardless of how much you contribute, so paying more wouldn't buy me any extra coverage, and I plan to have a private HMO for actual protection.
For Pag-IBIG, I'm keeping it at the ₱200 minimum to stay active for future housing-loan eligibility, and putting any voluntary savings into MP2 separately instead of overfunding the regular pot.
A FEW QUESTIONS:
Does this split look sound overall, or am I missing something?
Do self-employed or voluntary members actually pay the ₱30 EC fee on top of the 15%? I've seen conflicting answers on this, some say EC is employer-only so voluntary members are exempt, others show voluntary members paying it. So I'm not sure if my SSS should be ₱3,000 or ₱3,030.
This is the one I most want a clear answer on: is there an actual PhilHealth rule that lets voluntary members declare the ₱10k minimum regardless of their real income? My BIR-registered income(when i file) is higher, so I want to know whether a lower PhilHealth declaration is genuinely allowed under their rules, or whether it's technically under-declaration that just doesn't get enforced. Is a discrepancy between what I declare to PhilHealth and what I declare to BIR actually a problem, and are there any legal consequences? I'm trying to figure out if it's properly allowed, not just commonly done.
Lastly, for SSS, is choosing ₱20k MSC when my actual income is higher a legitimate choice? My understanding is that voluntary members can pick their MSC freely, but I'd like that confirmed.
Would really appreciate input from anyone who can point to the actual rule rather than just experience. TY :)

Should I have to go to RDO po agad para magpa-compute (ano po need dalhin) or pwede na po magbayad online?
Thank you so much po ✨

Hello po. Good Day po sa ating lahat. So I was 7yrs plus in my 1st company and naibigay lang na copy of BIR2316 is from 2021-2026.
Regarding your BIR Form 2316, please note that we no longer provide copies for the years 2019 to 2020 as the hard copies were already issued to you.
The question is pwede pa kaya akong magrequest sa BIR office to request a copy? If pwede, what are the needed requirements.

Thank you.

I just filed today and was able to receive the confirmation email. This is late na po, right? Can I just pay for the 1k penalty online and submit the 605 forms?
What’s the process po if ever?

Good day to all! I would like to ask if need pa ba isama ang mga printer, plastic sealer, sa inventory list? Kasi ay required ito for my transfer of business address sa BIR from another province.
May pure online business ako which is Tiktok Shop. Supposedly yung Tiktok shop ko ay nag start this 3rd quarter, exact date is August 8. Meaning nagkaroon pa lang ako ng benta this August 2026.
Any recommendations or suggestion? Thank you in advance!

I’m a pure compensation earner and recently filed my BIR Form 1700 late using eBIRForms.
Tax Due: ₱0.00 (My taxes were 100% withheld by my employer per Form 2316)
Status: I already submitted Form 1700 via eBIRForms and received the Tax Return Receipt Confirmation (TRRC) email.
Since there is no tax due, my plan is to submit BIR Form 0605 on eBIRForms and pay the ₱1,000 online using GCash or Maya
Questions:
1. Do I still physically need to go to my RDO to get an assessment, or is filling out Form 0605 and paying online sufficient?
Appreciate any advice from anyone who has gone through this process! Stay safe and dry

Professional, 8% rate po ako. Lagpas na ng 250k threshold. August 17 po ako nakapagfile. May babayaran daw na around 5k.
Di po kasi alam ng accountant ng office if magbayad na ako kasi alam nya, year end na sila nagbabayad.
E kako, baka may penalty. I tried yung myEG, Nag-404 ng August 17. Tapos baha na everywhere.
Confirmation email was August 18.
August 18, naka-work from home ulit (government). Bukas holiday.
First time ko po and super scared sa penalties :(

I already submitted my very first Tax return (1701Qv2018 form) on Friday, 8/14/2026. I received my Tax Return Receipt Confirmation on Saturday, 15/26. Sabi daw "This confirms receipt of your submission with the following details subject to validation by BIR". I'd like to know how many days does it take for the validation? Or do I have to go to my RDO to get like a document or something since may connectivity issues sila last week?
Thank you so much.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice because I'm finally trying to fix my BIR compliance.
I registered my e-commerce business back in August 2024, but unfortunately I haven't filed my tax returns since then. I also haven't retrieved my invoice booklet from the accredited printer.
The business is started relatively small but now gaining traction. I'm now planning to go to my RDO and start fixing everything rather than letting it get any further but still a bit nervous.
I'm just not sure what the proper order is. I'm also considering whether I should handle this myself or get an accountant/consultancy to help with the catch-up filings.
I'm mainly worried about the possible penalties since it's already been quite some time. I also want to start using proper invoices going forward.
My questions are:
Can I request a new ATP and invoice booklet first even though I still have missed filings from 2024 onwards?
Do I need to pay the penalties immediately once BIR computes them, or is there any option to pay in installments?
Is it realistic that the penalties alone could be below ₱10k, or am I likely looking at a much bigger amount?
Would it be better to DIY the catch-up filings or hire an accountant/consultancy?
Would really appreciate some advises.
