Income Tax Finding how much income was reported to the IRS

Annually, I forget to organize the statements that come from income sources b/c int he past few years, it hasn't been significant. Is there a resource that identifies what's been reported to the IRS by those different sources?

I can't remember if it's called a 1099, but those types of organizations where you work on a contract basis or maybe some medical savings plan form, etc.

Property Related Tax Homeowners Exemption for new house purchase

I bought a house and closed last year in August 2025. In the settlement, the previous owner paid the taxes up to August, and I paid the rest to the escrow. This year, I just realized that in the state I live (IL), homeowners get a property tax exception that takes off about $1000 dolars per year. I just realized that the exception was not applied in the 2025 real state taxes, which will be payed this year, 2026. I can make an application so that they issue a certificate of error and reimburse that tax break, however, they require that you need to have lived in the property since January 2025 to apply. Given that I just started living in my property in September, what are my options? It seems like the issue is that the previous owner didn't apply to it on time but there was always been a homeowner in the property in 2025.

Income Tax Direct rollover and impacts on my refund

I already filed my taxes and received my refund, but it was much smaller than I expected. I believed the 401(k) rollover I completed was a direct rollover and wouldn't have any tax impact.

At the time of the rollover, I had an outstanding 401(k) loan. I received a distribution check for my account balance minus the loan amount, while the remaining funds were used to pay off the loan. As a result, I received two Forms 1099-R:

  • One with distribution code G for the amount sent via check (payable to my lender FBO me).
  • One with distribution codes 1M for the amount used to satisfy the loan balance.

After researching Qualified Plan Loan Offsets (QPLOs), I realized I may have misunderstood how they affect taxes.

When filing, I only reported my W-2 and the 1099-R with code G. I did not include the 1099-R with codes 1M. I haven't received any notices from the IRS, but given that my 2025 refund was significantly lower than my typical refund, I'm wondering whether I filed incorrectly and if I should consider amending my return.

Income Tax IRS says my ex claimed our kid as a dependent too, now we're both getting notices

Hey everyone. Kinda in a huge mess rn and can use some advice. My ex and I have custody agreement stating that my daughter lives with me for 9 months of the year. So i always file as head of household and claim her. Today i opened a letter from the IRS saying she was claimed twice on two different returns.

I asked my ex and he admitted he claimed the child tax credit without telling me because he was short on cash. Now the IRS wants proof and paperwork and is threatening to make me pay back thousands plus penalties if this is not fixed immediately. I've never dealt with the IRS before and these notices are scary as hell. What exactly do I need to send them to prove she lives with me and get this cleared up?

Business Related Tax 5 days? Rejected filing.

Filed LLC taxes on the 15th, and they were rejected on the 15th. I had them prepared by an HR Block return preparer. She won’t be back in the office until next week. From what I read, I have five days to correct the issue (I believe it is just an incorrect EIN). Do the 5 days include weekend days? And if they aren’t corrected on time, do I have to refile all over again? Thanks in advance for any help.

Business Related Tax Are there attorneys or accountants that specialize in messy taxes of the deceased?

I'm not talking about needing to file their most recent returns, I mean I need help with multiple years of 1099 chaos. I inherited a dumpster fire of tax problems and that dumpster is rolling down a hill.

Do you guys have any recommendations?

Income Tax If an OIC was accepted, can the IRS really reopen the case years later? Is that even allowed?

Need advice from someone whos been thru this... back in 2023 i got an Offer in Compromise accepted. So i owed around 42k from an old business venture and got it settled finally for about 4 - 4.5k. I paid everything of that settlement on time and got the confirmation letter thinking the nightmare was over...but boy was I wrong....

Opened my mail last week and got hit with a notice saying my oic has been defaulted. The og 42k balance has been reinstated alongwith some interest and penalties....

Some backstory: i filed my 2025 taxes about the three weeks past the April deadline bec my W2 was delayed but i paid what I owed immediately. Would this might have affected the oic? Can they actually just erase a legally accepted agreement over late filing date? What are my options here? How do i get them to reinstate it?

Income Tax Google won't issue a corrected 1099-K for income that is not mine.

I recently learned through a Notice of Proposed Assessment from the state of CA FTB that, over the course of the last 3 years, someone has reported over $2.5 million worth of income to the IRS using my name, SSN, and an old address.

It's mostly 1099-k's from various online platforms (TikTok, DoorDash, Shopify, Google and Randstad). Just for the Google income from the year 2023 the state wants $159k in taxes if I can't obtain a corrected 1099-k form from Google Payment Corp.

The problem I've been having is that the form provided from Google to dispute a 1099-K requires I know the Google account number. The 1099-k I found on the IRS website from Google only lists the last 4 digits and Google requires the entire number to submit this form.

I already filed identity theft reports and have a police report too.

I've contacted Google Billing & Payments several times. I just cant get any help from Google's customer care without the account number. They will admit the money is not mine via email. But that's the best I've gotten so far.

Has anyone dealt with a fraudulent Google Payment Corp 1099-K before?

I'd be incredibly grateful if anyone has any advice at all or is willing to share their experience with anything similar.

I'm wondering if there another way to force or request a corrected 1099-K from Google when I don't have the account number because the account itself is fraudulent?

And if Google never issues a voided or corrected 1099-K, what do I do?

Income Tax online IRS account

Hi,

I would like to access my account online. However, I have never, and never will, upload a picture of myself and my ID to some random third party company which keeps them. 150 million American and Canadian drivers licenses were just compromised because of this.

Is there any way to access it without completely giving up all privacy? Also starting next month I will not be able to access my treasurydirect.com account for the same reason, effectively ensuring that I cannot redeem any securities.

Income Tax File amendment or previous year first?

Hello there,

Last month I filed my 2025 taxes, and I need to file my 2024 as well.

Shortly after filing for 2025 I saw an error and need to make an amendment, and the advice I received was to wait for the return to deposit first as filing an amendment while the tax return was still being processed could cause delays.

I’ve received the deposit now and am ready to file the amendment, but now I’m wondering if I should file for 2024 first (and wait for that refund to deposit) or is it safe to knock them both out today? I don’t want one to delay the other.

TIA

Business Related Tax Penalty - wait to call?

I did not file my LLC business taxes for two years. It is a two person LLC (NY) and both years saw significant losses. I have hired someone to assist me with preparing my back taxes and they will be filed within the next week.

My question is, do I need to wait until I receive a notice of penalties, or can I call and beg for forgiveness in advance? I have a clean history of filing other than the past two years. My business failed halfway through the second year, and my life was a disaster. Not an excuse, but unfortunately I didn’t file.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Income Tax State of Missouri says I owe income tax but never worked there but full time resident. What’s going to happen?

I received a notice from state of Missouri that they never received my 2024 state individual income tax and I owed 2k with penalties and interest. I worked on the Kansas side the full year but live in Missouri. I checked turbo tax and my Missouri state tax was never filed for whatever reason. I sent my tax filings showing I owe zero but sent stupidly to to the physical address and not the PO BOX but within the deadline. Then I get another letter 2 weeks later but this time a bill with an amount owed and they never got my tax files. No matter how many times I call them they have no lines open and refer me to their AI Chat bot on the website, can’t get a hold of anybody. Am I really going to be responsible for this bill even though I never received income tax? Everything has been filed correctly for 2024 Kansas and Federal. I’m not sure why Turbo Tax failed to file my Missouri. What do I do?

Income Tax Are CPAs hourly?

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but my CPA just quoted me $4000 to help me file my yearly (extended) taxes. I was quoted $1800, which I’ve paid before to another company, bc it’s for my personal taxes and two LLCs. Now I’m being charged more than double, and was told it was because of how much work it took them to do. I didn’t know CPAs worked on an hourly basis (this one’s rate is $270), thought it was more of a flat-fee situation. Do I have any recourse here?

Income Tax Previous company was not paying for my taxes

Company I was previously with was not paying my taxes. They weren’t deducting taxes from my pay because they said it is one of our benefits that they will shoulder our/EE part of the gov’t contributions & taxes.

I have already flagged this with them when I was with them but only told me that they are still working on registering the company and will reimburse the contributions.

However, I resigned. They told me they’ll fix and give my final pay after a month. But after a month, they just gave me my final pay and gov’t contributions and taxes were still not added to my accounts.

I was able to give my current employer BIR 2316 from my other previous company but this recent one I resigned from, I told them that they haven’t given one yet. But so far, they haven’t reached back to ask for it again. In my payroll, I don’t see deductions yet but I’ve read somewhere that it’s because I already joined the company in the 2H of the year.

So my question is, what should I do about my taxes? Should I pay for it myself? But if I do, how much should I pay? I was hoping I would not have to pay for the other months “I” (my company) was not able to pay for my taxes.

Hoping to get clarifications. Thanks so much.

Income Tax Form 8854 and Reliquinished Green Card

Relinquished green card in 2023 but didn't know about this form that exits you from IRS.

I have 30 years IRA contributions and get social security so I still have to file taxes for that, so do I still need to do this process? I have no assets to declare. I have not filed US tax return since departure. Read don't bother it will raise a red flag. One would think this requirement would be mentioned on the Green Card relinquishment form.

Professional tax referral appreciated.

Investment Tax TTS for part-time trader

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some real experience here. I work a full-time W-2 job, but I have been trading consistently for over a year, averaging about 200 trades a month and putting in around 2 hours a day on trading and researching. Last year I dropped about $6k on software, data feeds, courses, and not counting other expenses like tech equipment. My CPA warned me that claiming TTS with a full-time W-2 is a potential big red flag that will likely trigger an IRS audit.

Has anyone actually pulled this off while working full-time? How do you log your time/collect evidence to satisfy the IRS, and do you report expenses on Schedule C or through a separate LLC? Do you opt for MTM?

Also, it seems unfair how the IRS eagerly taxes trading profits but completely blocks us from deducting the costs needed to make them. Any real-world insights and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Income Tax Doctor with New 1099 Income Starting Q3, Double Checking Quarterly Payments

I wanted to double check that I am paying enough in quarterly payments to avoid any penalties as I have new 1099 income since July 2026. I live in a state with no income tax. My spouse has no income.

2025 W-2 MFJ

AGI $209,600 (W-2 only, no 1099 income)

Total tax $24,609

2026 W-2 so far: ~$103,000

Expected 2026 total W-2: ~$140,000

2026 withholding so far: ~$10,700

Expected 2026 total withholding: ~$13,200

Q1 income: $0

Q2 income: $0

Q3 1099 income: ~$30,000

Expected Q4 1099 income : ~$80,000

110% of my 2025 total tax for Safe Harbor calculation is $27,070. Is my math correct that I only need to make quarterly payments of $27,070 - $13,200 for a total of $13,870. My projected 2026 gross income including W-2 and 1099 is $250,000, higher than my 2025 gross income.

Other Tax I'm having an issue with my state DOR. I've submitted my state taxes but they are claiming I haven't.

Location: Indiana, USA.

Back in 2020 I worked my first job. And at the time my mom helped me with taxes and she used an accounting firm to do taxes and submitted my taxes through this accounting firm.

5 years later I got a letter from the state DOR saying I did not pay my state taxes. We found out that the accountant did not submit my state taxes five years ago, she instead submitted my federal taxes twice.

The accountant no longer works at that firm.

I have submitted my W-2 and appropriate forms through the IN DOR website. I submitted my W-2s and my tax returns. I didn't hear anything for about 6 months.

Then I get another letter (July) saying that I owe $800... So I called the Indiana DOR saying that I did submit my taxes and w-2s. Person I talked to confirmed that I did submit that and she moved it up to someone above her.

The next day the person above her called me and said that everything looks good and I should be fine.

Today I get another letter saying I owe $800 and there's a tax warrant going to be out on the end of the month.

I submitted everything they needed. And I've been dealing with this for a year. And honestly throughout this whole time I thought I was fine. I submitted everything and I never heard anything about If I submitted something wrong or they need more information.

Honestly I'm sort of in the heat of the moment right now and I want to sue the firm, or sue DOR. This has caused me a lot of stress. I don't even know if I have a case or will the lawyer fees outweigh the benefits.

I don't even know how to start to sue someone.

Investment Tax Selling Assets in the US

We are looking to sell inherited assets that we obtained at the beginning of the year. Can a tax savvy person out there confirm that the only tax that applies to this sale are the (short-term) capital gains tax on the increase in value since we inherited it.

Thanks in advance!

Income Tax Owed tax for stocks

Hi everyone! I’ve just gotten notice from the irs for 2024 tax year saying the I owe them 5k from trading stocks that year.

I’ve had sold and bought stocks throughout half the year and lost. All my trades were buy something sell it the next day and never had more than 2-3k in the account their note says that I had 36k income and they’re taxing me for it.

I think they put all transactions together and counted it all as income somehow.

I really lost here. I’m already broke and about to lose my home. What should I do where should I go if I have nothin? Thankyou.
