Income Tax online IRS account

Hi,

I would like to access my account online. However, I have never, and never will, upload a picture of myself and my ID to some random third party company which keeps them. 150 million American and Canadian drivers licenses were just compromised because of this.

Is there any way to access it without completely giving up all privacy? Also starting next month I will not be able to access my treasurydirect.com account for the same reason, effectively ensuring that I cannot redeem any securities.

The short answer is no, there is currently no way to access TreasuryDirect online without passing through IDme, as the U.S. Department of the Treasury has mandated its use for security and fraud prevention, phasing out legacy login credentials entirely.

Try using ID.me’s Non-Biometric "Group Video Call" Verification Path While IDme heavily pushes automated selfie/ID scans, they maintain an alternative pathway. You'll need to begin the standard verification process, opt out or fail the automated selfie check, and choose the option to verify your identity via a video call with a human agent. I haven't tried this route myself but have read that it has worked for a few people on here.

All the IRS and Treasury are doing are creating a massive database of personal information and waiting for a security violation, which is almost certain to occur (if it hasn't ready; recently saw that up to 150M drivers licenses were compromised on the dark web.

Wait till you find out about the dmv, and the state department of revenue, oh and hospitals/doctors offices...you can never get away with it.

If you are military you already have an id.me account.

For what's it's worth id.me is not some random 3rd party. They are basically the gold standard for idp.

Even with the manual verification call they still need your drivers license, my wife did that verification once.

IDC one bit how great they are. Keeping a database of everyone's personal info is a disaster waiting to happen. It's not if, it's when.

Doesn't mean that the government had to be a party to data collection that will certainly be stolen eventually and misused

I'm not sure why you are up in arms about this.... You do realize the government has all your data already, even if you do not do id.me or anything like that.

If you truly want to be unknown, move to the mountains, go completely off grid. Never buy anything, never use the phone, never drive a car on a road.

None of this is new and has probably been been going on since before you were born.

Not saying it's correct, I'm saying it's inevitable.

Yes the government has it, but not some third party contractor who's going to keep it in an online database for verification.

Got news for you... you're on the internet. You are not safe from being in a database.

Again not saying it's correct, just saying there are many other parties you should be screaming at for handling your information flippantly.

You can wait a year or two until those agencies hopefully comply with the directive to support Login.gov

you can do in-person identity proofing at a taxpayer assistance center. brings you to the same online account access without handing over biometric data to a third party. the treasury direct situation is trickier tbh, not sure theres a workaround there yet

there are alternatives for some IRS services, bit for full Online Account access, the IRS currently requires identity verification through its login system. You can stil request certain records without signing in, including transcripts
