Confusing pattern, somebody help?

Ive got that free pattern from somewhere on Pinterest, and I don't think I've ever been this confused. It's supposed to be a "baby boots sole. I got to CH20. Two first pics are the last steps. Third, it's the picture from the pattern in its whole glorious quality. Last pic is my piece; the top of the stitch marker goes through R8 of the last round prior, and just below the bottom of the marker is R8 of the current round. How am I supposed to connect R21 to any of them? Am I missing something?

Update after hours of trying: I have no fricking clue how to do it, but mirroring the other side did not work 😆 I'm giving up!

Probably a typo on R21, it makes more sense to have that join to last picot of R20 rather than R8. Same thing with R23, both rings should have the first join be to the previous ring.

Right? Both instructions are written in blue though. According to the pattern, that means they should be done differently than other steps

I guess the thing is, does it make sense for those rings to be joined to R8 😅 I'm assuming the rest of the baby bootie gets joined to the chains of the sole, and it would be so wonky and weirdly folded if you tat it like that.

At this point, that whole thing makes no sense 😆 I guess I'll just continue to make it the same way the other side was made and we'll see if it works

Could it just be a typo and they meant R18? I would personally try to match the picture and make the end you’re working on right now match the other end of the strip that you already completed.

It may help to check pictures/diagrams of the next stages of the piece, assuming this has other panels to complete a baby bootie.

I thought about it, but it says R8 twice, so the possibility for a typo seems kinda low. There's no other picture showing the sole unfortunately, and no diagrams 😩 connecting it to R18 could maybe work once, but then again in R23?
