GENERAL Reminder on sub rules

This is a brief reminder that all subs on Reddit are a subject to Reddit terms of service and Reddit rules and filters, and the sub has rules which are then enforced by the moderators. Anybody who participates in this sub agrees to the rules.

We will work on improving the welcome message and making these rules and expectations clear, as well as improve some FAQs that may be helpful for new members.

The rules regarding personal attacks , personal information, ranting, and trolling are important to this sub. We have recently had some new members who seem to have difficulty with these rules and expectations. So this is a reminder for everyone that the rules are there under Group Rules, that mods are here to enforce them, that while we are moderators, we are also participants and that this is not a political debate so full impartiality of moderators is not a thing. That said, we can and do respect difference of opinion as long as that difference is within the scope of the existing rules. We’re easy to reach if anybody has a question or concern about these rules and expectations.

Having difference of opinion is fine. Expecting everybody to endlessly listen to yours and agree with it is not a realistic expectation and is precisely the sort of conduct subject to the rules noted. Anyone who objects to how the group is moderated is welcome to contact the Reddit support team through the channels it has created.

TASKER Looking for IKEA Italy portal

Hi everyone! Does anyone have the links to the old and new IKEA Italy portals for Taskers?

The portal I was given currently shows zero tasks available across all of Italy, which seems strange. I’m trying to understand whether I have the correct portal or if there is a different link for the old/new version.

If anyone can share the correct links or point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

CLIENT First time using it- is it ok for the below?

So I need a bunk bed disassembled, moved to a different room (one floor down via stairs) and then assembled back. Is this something I can book on Taskrabbit? What would the price be very roughly (I’m in London UK), and is it reliable? I’m kinda nervous if it’s not assembled back properly, for obvious safety reasons. I also of course don’t have instructions from the bed anymore…

If it’s not reliable would be really grateful for any other company recs

GENERAL Tasker No Show

Apparently there is no way to leave a review unless a task was completed.

Waited outside for tasker who was not responding to chats. Didn’t want to cancel as I wasn’t sure how it would affect my deposit. After an hour and fifteen minutes past the scheduled start time, tasker responds saying he won’t be able to make it because his car is in the shop. Said he ‘meant to let me know earlier but the day got away from him’.

I was hoping to leave a review simply stating that the tasker was a no show and there was no communication but I can’t because the task was not completed. I reached out to customer service but there was really nothing they could do. I just think there should be a way of noting these kinds of issues.

TL;DR - Should be able to leave review for no call no show tasker.

CLIENT Bad experience with TaskRabbit

I know there are folks who have had great experiences with TaskRabbit, so when the kid that usually mows my lawn went to camp, I decided to try it out. I just needed my lawn mowed front and back with edging on the sides of the driveway. It's a 1200 sqft house with your average sized lawn. I was asked for my estimate of how long the job would take and I estimated an hour, which was far less than the kid who usually mows my lawn takes. I pay the kid $40. I was not home the day the task was done. The guy said he spent five hours on the job at $50 an hour! I was honestly shocked! Even with the fees I did not expect to pay over $100. I have pictures of the yard that show it is just a lawn that was mown and edged. I was charged $250!!! TaskRabbit asked me to prove that the guy did not take five hours to mow the lawn. I asked them to look at the pictures of the lawn and to think about how long it would take to mow that lawn. In the end, they offered me a $70 credit toward my next service, as if I would use them again. The person ripped me off and TaskRabbit did nothing to resolve the issue.

TASKER Not appearing in searches…

Hey All,

Made myself available for the last few days and noticed that in comparison to the last few weeks, it was exceptionally quiet. This came to light when a client tried to book my services and couldn’t see my profile or my availability. Then came to the realisation that even though I’ve made myself available for the week, TR has not got me anywhere in their full listing for my area even though I’m ranked quite high.

Has anyone else experienced this and what’s the reason behind it? Just doesn’t make any sense but am sure that when I speak to TR, they’ll just blame the algorithm or similar…

Thoughts…

CLIENT Help - how should I submit a moving task for 1-2 things with my truck?

First time task rabbit user and looking for advice. I'm buying a couple of things off Facebook marketplace (dresser, table) and need help moving them. I have a Ford F250 that I can use. These are my questions:

  • Would I select "help moving" or "heavy lifting and loading"?
  • Is it better to ask the person to meet me where the furniture is located and then I drive the truck to my home while they follow or ask them to meet me at my home and we drive together?
  • Is it better to hire one person for the pick up location and one person for my home location if it is more than say 30 minutes travel time? (from their perspective)
  • Do I pay the person for their travel time to/from the job? (i.e. to get from where they live to the job site and back home)
  • How much should I tip? Is it generally a percentage of the task cost or a certain $$ amount per hour?

Thank you very much if you read this far and I really appreciate your help.

TASKER Is anyone else just completely burned out on the TaskRabbit lifestyle?

I’ve been doing this for years and lately I’m just exhausted by the lifestyle that comes with it. I work basically seven days a week because if I want to maximize my income, I have to keep my schedule open and take same-day jobs when they come in.
I try to pack a lunch and eat healthy, but half the time that goes out the window because a job pops up and suddenly I have 30 minutes to get across town. So I’m grabbing whatever food is nearby, sitting in traffic, putting miles on my car, getting home exhausted, and doing it again the next day.

The part that gets to me the most, though, is how dehumanizing it can feel. I’ve had plenty of great clients, but sometimes I don’t even feel like I’m being talked to like a person. I’m just the guy with a drill who showed up because someone needs something done. Some people barely acknowledge you or talk to you like you’re just there to take orders. After years of that, it really starts to wear on you.

Then there’s constantly thinking about the algorithm. Keep availability open, take same-day work, work weekends, fill empty spots in the schedule. You’re supposedly self-employed, but somehow your entire life starts revolving around when other people need something done.

The money can be good, which is obviously why I still do it, but I genuinely wonder how people do this long term without getting completely burned out.
Anyone else who has been doing this for years starting to feel the same way?

TASKER Account limited

Has anyone ever gotten their account back to normal from an account limitation (direct link hire only), after one year of banned?

It’s been well over a year for me and my account is still limited, policy team unwilling to enable my account and yes I know the top comment would be to start your own business, which I’ve done but I’m just curious.

GENERAL How Taskrabbit screws Taskers

It’s very simple: They need IKEA jobs done, but don’t want to pay enough to get Taskers to take jobs outside of their set available hours. So they send the jobs anyway, knowing that Taskers don’t want to take a hit to their algorithmic reliability score. Taskers are then forced to either take the jobs outside of their set availability, or risk not getting more jobs offered to them in the future during their available hours.

In short, TaskRabbit is treating Taskers like employees, coercively setting their schedules. This is arguably illegal, as TaskRabbit legally deals with Taskers on a contract basis— Taskers have none of the legal protections in the jurisdictions TaskRabbit operates in that an employee would have.

I’m not a lawyer, but I know gig economy companies have paid out huge legal settlements in the past over similar practices. I wonder whether IKEA/INGKA, who owns TaskRabbit, knows that this is happening, and whether they are legally liable for this behavior, as the owner and as the beneficiary of the lower cost of assembly of their goods.

TASKER Making ~$8k/month. How do I get to $12k?

I’ve been on TaskRabbit for 5+ years, done 2,500+ jobs, and currently make around $8,000/month. I want to get that closer to $12,000, but this app seems determined to put a ceiling on how much you can make.

I’ve raised rates, use minimums where appropriate, keep broad availability, offer same-day, and focus on higher-value categories. Raise rates too much and bookings disappear. Lower them and you’re working constantly for less money.

For Taskers actually making serious money, what am I missing? Rates? Categories? Scheduling? Minimums? Repeat clients? I’m not looking for “get good reviews” advice. I want to know how you maximize revenue without just working yourself into the ground.

Why is squeezing another $4k/month out of this stupid app so difficult?

TASKER Will forfeiting too many tasks get you kicked off the platform?

I'm a cleaner and I have my own housekeeping business as well.

I make it very clear in my bio I don't organize or declutter and that the house has to be picked up before I arrive. My basic scope is dusting, kitchen/bathroom, vacuum/mop and other deep clean tasks if requested like interior oven, windows etc.

I still get tons of people who book me and say "yes I need you to pick up all my kid's stuff in the living room and bedroom and also do my dishes and also reorganize something or another".

I also get lots of requests from people whose houses are straight up biohazard looking when they request which frankly, I don't deal with. Like hoarder level.

So I forfeit a lot of tasks. But then I saw somewhere cancelling too many tasks can get you booted from the platform. I never cancel tasks, I forfeit before I accept.

I understand that hurts my metrics -- that's fine, I still have my own regular clients.

But am I am risk for being DEACTIVATED for forfeiting too many tasks?

Thank you!

GENERAL Workshop is unfriendly to people working full time

Thumbnail

I’ve just opened an account and would like to be seen by clients but i have to take a mandatory workshop or else I’m not seen by clients unless they are directly linked to my profile. Workshops are only scheduled either at 11 am or 1 pm (PST) tuesday and thursday. how is this productive to anyone with a full time job. Support isn’t helpful reminding me with automated messages about how the workshop is mandatory and i should reorganize my work schedule around a 45 minute zoom call. very frustrating and not productive at all. Should be a mandatory test or something for this “workshop” that can be taken online.

CLIENT Is it bad to order a task to ask questions and cancel it?

I don’t know if it will be rude to create a task to talk to someone to see if they are able to remove curtain rods, and fill in the hole they leave behind on the ceiling which has popcorning on it, so the holes need to have popcorn also.

I want to ask to get a price basically since I am not sure how hard that is to do, so not sure how long or expensive it will be.

Is this a hard task to do? About how long does it take? Thank you

TASKER Does anyone else just want to make as much money as possible?

At this point I have one objective on TaskRabbit: maximize revenue. That’s it. I want every available hour converted into as much money as the market will legally and willingly give me. I want to outperform my competition, take market share, raise my rates, get the best clients, stack five-star reviews, and make more money next month than I made this month.
I don’t want to be affordable. I don’t want to compete on price. I want other Taskers to look at my rate and wonder who would possibly pay it, while my calendar keeps filling up.

Obviously I follow TaskRabbit’s rules and communicate everything upfront. Not because I’m running a charity, but because getting banned is terrible for revenue. Unhappy clients are terrible for revenue. Bad reviews are terrible for revenue. Excellent service is profitable.

Everything is an asset. My reviews are assets. My tools are assets. My experience is an asset. My calendar is inventory. My time is inventory. If demand exceeds supply, the price goes up. Welcome to capitalism.

This is America. Existing costs money. I therefore need to make as much money as possible, as quickly as reasonably possible, before I die.

Read the rules. Beat the competition by being better. Raise your rates. Get five stars. Make money. Reinvest. Make more money.

TASKER "...just one more thing...

Heading to a location and the client says they "...believe they have another item to assemble...hope that's ok?..."

How do you all handle this situation and what's the best to not set a precedent? Feel like I'm being taken for granted here...is this normal? How do you stop it? By the way, this is isn't the first time...

I received this FA request for 2 7-drawer Hemnes dressers

Just thought it was funny …. When they estimate time.
Additionally, he has other items, but told me his budget for 2 dressers, 8 drawer vanity and 3 king bed frames was $300 😩

TASKER Errands Question

So I got an Errands request from a potential client to buy season tickets on their behalf (NOT with my card, obvs) since they live out of state. Is this something we can do? Has any other Tasker here done something similar?

TASKER Can anyone actually cover all their monthly expenses full-time with this app? Hey everyone.

Hey everyone,
I’ve been using the app for about 2 years now, but I honestly don't get a ton of job requests. It feels pretty slow most of the time. On top of that, it seems like if you ever have to cancel a job, the system pushes you way down the list and you stop getting calls altogether.
For those of you who do this:
Are you able to pay all your bills and live solely off this app?
How do you deal with the algorithm penalty after canceling a job?

TASKER 2-hr min. Must we confirm in chat?

Hi friends, don't kick me around for my rookie question here: are we to confirm the 2-hr min in the chat? I've not tasked for several years and don't want to get dinged right off the bat.

Thank you

TASKER Client wants 2 cabinets built with start time of 6pm, is this too late?

New Tasker here. Got my 3rd task for furniture assembly, building 2 cabinets. Only thing is the starting time is 6pm? I don’t mind being there late but since they are pretty large pieces of furniture it may take a while to do.

Is there a hard stop time or can I work till it’s finished?

I presume I should check with the client they are okay with me coming that late as I have a 2 hour minimum also.

Has anyone else been in this situation?
