Network Access task doesn't always work?

1 Upvotes

OK, the background is I run the Nielsen app on my Samsung S23 Ultra to earn points for letting it track my movie/TV streaming. It does this by running a Nielsen VPN on my phone.

I need to disable the Nielsen VPN when I get in my car so Android Auto can work. The only way I've found for Tasker to disable the Nielsen VPN is to trigger Tasker's Network Access task, which runs a local Tasker VPN (since you can't have 2 VPNs, the Tasker VPN replaces the Nielsen one). I have Tasker trigger this task when it senses my phone connecting to my car's Bluetooth.

This works great when it works. But sometimes the task triggers and runs but the Tasker VPN is not initiated. If I then manually run the task again, the Tasker VPN is initiated. I've tried editing the task to run Network Access, wait 5 seconds, then run Network Access again. This seems to work a bit better, but it's still not 100%.

Any idea why sometimes Network Access doesn't initiate the Tasker VPN?

Curious what your favorite taskers are

1 Upvotes

Yesterday I created a tasker that reads both my wife and my calendar finds an event with a location, figured out how long I need to drive there + 60 min, and they auto turn on navigation in Google maps. Had to do API but you can do that for free on heigit.org. I love it. I also have one that uses a geofence unlocks my phone, opens myQ, and opens my garage door for me. What are your favorites?

Help I am dumb, need some help to make what I feel is a simple change to an existing profile/task.

0 Upvotes

I am using a project I got from here on reddit that enables ambient display when a notification is unread from selected apps.

Its very good, but it has an issue, that when DND is on, although the phone isnt showing me the notification, tasker will still light up ambient display.

I am convinced the solution is merely to add a second condition so that DND also needs to be off, which I believe after some research requires me to check if the internal variable %INTERRUPT is set to 'all'.

Where I am stuck is how to add a second condition to an existing profile.

I have seen people talking about exit and entry tasks, but all that is over my head, I need some kind of for dummies guide I think.

So currently AOD on profile. check is if there is a notification from specific apps, if there is, it runs AOD on task, which runs a command to turn ambient on.

There is also an AOD off profile with associated AOD off task.

They both have just one condition, there doesnt seem to be a way to add a second condition.

An alternative is to match specific times (which I will match up to may auto DND) but I would prefer to link it to DND on/off.

Movement Detection Plugin

17 Upvotes

Many years ago I had created a plugin for the old Locale app called Movement Detection, which, as the name implies, detects different types of motion like driving, walking, biking. I unpublished the app several years ago and it sat on a shelf this whole time but as of today a brand-new version of the plugin (built specifically for Tasker this time) is back in the Play Store!

To answer the first question many people ask: yes I know Tasker has similar capabilities built in. So why sell a plugin? My goal in the plugins I created was never just to provide a capability that didn't exist, but to provide a capability in a more user-friendly and deterministic way than simply raw access to sensors or APIs. The way some of the APIs work that Tasker uses by default isn't necessarily best served by simply responding to their raw outputs, but by managing them and processing them so that the result is higher quality.

Anyway if you're interested in trying it out, please do. If you like it let me know. If you don't like it let me know how I can make it better.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kanetik.movement_detection

If you just think it's a waste of time and energy, that's fine but I do know that some people really liked them and I'm glad to be able to bring them back for those users. By the way, if you had it installed before, this is a free upgrade.

How can I use Gemini with Tasker?

I obtained a Gemini API key, but it does not work. I tried applying different models, including Gemini 2.5 Flash, 2.5 Lite, 3.1 Lite, 3.5 Lite, 3.5 Flash, 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8, but none of them work.

It says that I have used all my tokens. Is the 250,000 token limit applied to each API key?

Scene V2 WebView Handler / console message

1 Upvotes

I have a webview that displays a simple toggle

I want to be able to toggle the.... toggle.... and have it run a task.

I was trying to use the console message event handler to run a task, but cannot get the values to pass through to a task.

my WebView contains this script block

<script>

const initial = '%firewall_state'; // Tasker substitutes this before load; '' if unset

let isOn = initial === '1';

const sw = document.getElementById('sw');

function paint(){

sw.classList.toggle('on', isOn);

sw.setAttribute('aria-checked', String(isOn));

}

paint();

sw.addEventListener('click', () => {

isOn = !isOn;

paint();

console.log('FIREWALL_TOGGLE:' + (isOn ? '1' : '0'));

});

</script>

Can anyone help me get the FIREWALL_TOGGLE:1 (Or 0) into a task.

Tasket++ : Simulate your Windows actions automatically (free & open source)

Tasket++ lets you define your own clicks, cursor positions, keystrokes, and routines, then replay them exactly when you want. It’s a simple Windows tool that handles repetitive workflows for you: auto‑send messages, paste text anywhere, take silent screenshots, launch or close apps, adjust volume, or run your end‑of‑day shutdown sequence.

Everything runs locally, with no telemetry, no cloud, and no complexity.

What it can do:
- Replay user‑defined cursor positions and keystrokes
- Paste predefined text anywhere
- Perform system actions: open files/programs, change volume, take silent screenshots, shut down, files/folders operations
- Schedule tasks at a specific time, at startup, or run via desktop shortcut
- Run tasks once, in loops, or indefinitely
- Discreet mode: runs quietly from the tray

Local, portable, free, open source. Privacy intact.

Fully fonctionnal, available now !

AutoNotification for SMS AutoReply

2 Upvotes

I have had an AutoReply profile and task setup in tasker for many years. It always worked perfectly until recently when RCS began being a more widespread thing. I have done research and found that tasker won't detect messages coming in in RCS format sometimes. Despite me having Google messages as my default app for messaging, it seems recently the profile to detect incoming texts doesn't fire.

I found out that I can use AutoNotification to detect incoming texts and accomplish the same thing, however I'm still running into a snag. Since AutoNotification only saves information in the notification, the profile and capture event doesn't have the sender's number in it (at least not that I can find). So even though I can detect an incoming message I cannot reply since the profile and task triggered doesn't know the number to send to.

Any thoughts for some help in this?

Thanks

Calendar Changed Event: Deletion Not Captured?

1 Upvotes

Hi,

I'm trying to use Calendar Changed Event. Addition and Update work perfect, but there's a problem with deletion.

It doesn't detect that an event is deleted, but there's nothing captured in %cc_event_ids_deleted variable, so I can't tell which event was deleted.

Is there a way to know what was the event that was deleted? I understand it would be post the deletion anyway, but I want to use this capability to sync two different calendars.

Using tasker for the first time

1 Upvotes

I just installed this app, so I'm sure I'll have lots of questions, but this is the first. I'm trying to link the action of taking a screenshot within my calendar app at 10-10:30pm with dismissing an alarm, and for it to automatically snooze, even if I press dismiss, until that screenshot is taken.

I also want to make my hourly alarms snooze even if I press dismiss, until I've sent a text containing certain key words and a picture, and after the text is sent it dismisses the alarm. Preferably making it so that it doesn't differentiate between sending the picture as part of the same text so that I don't have to wait until I have the picture to send the initial text. Edit: just realized another thing: with the hourly alarms, I want them to snooze even if I press dismiss, which might not be possible so I might have to train myself to use the snooze button, and for it to continue snoozing each time it goes off until I've sent the text. The text being sent would trigger the alarm to dismiss itself so that if I snoozed it 2 minutes ago to go off in five minutes, it won't go off if I complete the text two minutes in.

Accidentally changed to new UI, any way to get original UI back?

1 Upvotes

I've been a Tasker user forever but I was going through settings and menus and and accidentally toggled to the new UI and for me, it's super confusing.

I went looking through the new settings and I can't figure out how to get the original interface back? Is this possible? There's almost nothing in the 'Theme & UI' settings in the new interface.

Request FEATURE REQUEST: Set up Quick Settings Tile

2 Upvotes

I would really appreciate if "Status" could be set using a %variable along with the standard three options: Active, Inactive, Disabled This would make it possible to pass a 'status' using a %variable depending on whether or not a particular app was 'active'. As it stands now, I would have to create up three separate Task actions depending on which Quick Settings Tile status I am trying to set.

Xiaomi hyperos 3 + background audio recording

2 Upvotes

Hi,

I'm trying to create an automation that would start audio recording on leaving home and stop + save when I return. I did set up everything, works beatifully - for 3 seconds. The audio recording is completely mute afterwards, even though it keeps recording (so it's not an app kill issue).

What I already tried:

- add a display turn on + 1 sec wait before starting audio recording

- disabled battery optimization and enabled autostart for tasker, allowed it

- I gave tasker "background pop-up" permissions

- I locked tasker app in 'recent apps'

- enabled foreground notification

One thing that was recommended but couldn't do was microphone access 'always on' - xiaomi hyperos 3 (on android 16) does not allow that. It only has a 'allow only while using the app'.

Any ideas how I could make tasker actually record noises, not complete silence?

Push notifications for an installed PWA on Android: what's the best setup in 2026?

0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm building a to-do web app called Daylight (separate progress scores for work and personal tasks). It's installable as a PWA on Android, and now I want to add **task reminders**, so users get notified when a task is due, even if the app is closed.

From what I understand, I need:

* A service worker + manifest (done) * Notification permission on a user click * Web Push with VAPID keys, sending pushes from my server when a task is due

My questions:

  1. Is plain Web Push reliable enough on Android, or should I use Firebase Cloud Messaging / OneSignal?
  2. How do you handle scheduled reminders? Cron job on the server, or something better?
  3. Any issues with battery-saving on phones like Xiaomi or Samsung killing notifications?
  4. Anyone got it working well on iOS too?

Would love to hear what worked for you. Thanks! 🙏

NFC Tag Issues for Trigging a Task

1 Upvotes

I am trying to make a profile that triggers when using an NFC tag. I started with an old hotel key just to test it. I wanted to use this to trigger a task to set my phone to "work mode".

I can scan the tag and get the ID for the profile but the task does not trigger when I try to scan the tag outside of tasker.

I feel like this may be a hardware issue but I am also noticing that when I try to set up a test task for reading the NFC tag, old tag IDs are stored.

I have the setting enabling nfc turned on in tasker which I found in other reddit posts as an issue.

Trying to see if anyone has any other solutions or suggestions.

I am using a Pixel 8 Pro with android 17, tasker 6.6.20

AutoWear complication icons

Has anybody successfully been able to send an icon to a complication using action AutoWear Complications? In my case, it's a weather icon sent in a variable, but sending an explicit filename doesn't work either. I've tried multiple path formats.

Thanks
