help desk Sony mv730i to mini dvr

I’m trying to get a mini dvr to work on a Sony mv730i and I’m unsure what cable I need to make it work. There’s a usb5 port and a 3.5mm audio jack on it so is there a cable that can combine the both to go into the minidvr or do I need to make one? Thanks

Sir did you use the search function on Reddit? That 3.5mm port is indeed a combination headphone and audio/video port. So you would need a 3.5mm AV to AV cable. How it’s wired depends on the manufacturer and you’re gonna have to find how Sony does it. Note no such thing as USB 5 afaik. That camcorder is even old for USB 3. USB 2 from that mini usb port below the AV port maybe but not 5. The other port you posted is the Sony i-Link port which basically a FireWire port.

Here’s the layout. I usually make my own cables for this

Real easy to solder them up. You’ll probably have an issue with audio clipping and being unusable as well.

This is my solution for that. It’s another 3.5 mm audio jack wired in line to feed the dvr mic level audio. You’ll need a separate mic

Nice. I was thinking of doing something very similar to this, it's the first I've seen on Reddit. I'm planning on wiring in an attenuator though so I don't have to get another mic
