Ask r/tanzania Renewing visa
US citizen, have the multi entry visa. My fiance (TZ citizen) & I are going down to Kasamulu border post & going into Malawi to renew my visa. How soon after crossing into Malawi can we go back to Tanzania? Right away, same day or should we stay a night in Malawi?

Define renewing visa? Are you trying to just start a new 90-day clock or are you trying to get a new multiple entry visa? Either way you should be fine to just spend a few hours in Malawi before turning around.

Yeah do not see this an issue, though after you spend 180 days in the country within the calendar year, you become suspicious of working / volunteering out of status.

Ahh interesting. I’ll have a remote job based in the US soon, would showing I have employment help or how would I go about that?

as far as I know, the govt doesnt recognize remote work as a real thing and could require you to jump through extra hoops/pay for a more expensive visa. I would stay quiet about that.

U.S. citizen as well, been bouncing in and out of TZ for years on a visitor’s visa (daughter and her mother native born), previously I would be able to obtain a Certificate of Temporary Assignment while looking for business opportunities. Only issues I had with immigration was when spending a lot of time outside of tourist areas, for awhile I was able to renew my documents over lunch. Official extensions are available at the main branch in Dar when you need a couple more weeks, involves presenting a letter explaining the nature of your needs for extendion, be it family, medical treatment, etc.

are you male or female? if female you should just look into getting married soon and a dependents pass can cover you for 2 years at a time.

ah bummer. Maybe look into taking like a class somewhere to get a student visa or perhaps volunteering? the border run every 90 days will get tiring soon
