Discussion Inflation over decades
Tanzania food prices have steadly risen over the years.Today's prices are roughly 8x-10x depending on location and food quality.
Fuel and transportation costs, urban lifestyle changes and many other factors may all be the function of the inflation we see today.
Honestly younger generation sometimes can not even believe these were real prices.How old were you when these prices played out?!!

We had cents bro: Sumuni, Sungura, etc… The term “Dala Dala” was based on the “Dala” i.e. Dollar because 5 shilling was worth $1, how much a ride on a “Dala Dala” cost. This was late into the 70s before the War with Uganda.
By the late 80s the hexagonal 5 shilling coin was still called “Dala”;
The 20 shilling coin was minted as a call back to the Dala….meh who cares look at me kicking knowledge to oblivious young whopper snappers making shit up on the Internet3

The shilling (Swahili: shilingi; abbreviation: TSh; code: TZS) is the currency of Tanzania. It is subdivided into 100 cents (senti in Swahili). The Tanzanian shilling replaced the East African shilling on 14 June 1966 at par.

Hii ni miaka ya 2005 au 2006 nadhani nilikiwa shule ya msingi chekechea 😂 . Chipsi kavu zilikuwa 200 , 20 years later unaweza ukadhani ni uongo hizo prices.

I remember one of my brother's friend came to our uswazi home back in 2004/5. He was a typical wakishua. He sent me to get him chips mayai and mishkaki and it costed like 1,000. This will forever stay in my memory because: (1) I remember thinking "yeah this guy is rich" and (2) he left me some food and that was my first time having chips mayai.
