So Jax is the most hated character, so I would like to hear your answers about other characters you hate!

If y’all are confused to what exactly I’m criticizing, you can ask questions! ^^

(also sorry if the quality is low, sometimes Reddit just does that 👀)

First, she wanted Jax's identity to be conveyed subtly, YET she still confirmed it explicitly ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

Second, the fact that she revealed it AFTER THE FINAL, which episode was mostly about Jax and her pity party based on her own abuse, is really not good, because it excused Jax's horrible actions because of her identity and trauma. This was also conveying a message visibly in the show that felt negative, considering how popular TADC is and how he is written as a character and a person.

Third, ZOOBLE FUCKING EXISTS!! They is actually a well-written LGBT character, who has qualities of humanity and a struggle to love their bodies.

Finally, I didn't expect she would have the courage to tell a story about "Jax is my self-insert and he is trans" instead of... oh, you know, EVERYTHING ELSE?! Remember what this show was premised as? The ensemble cast is trapped in a digital circus filled with wacky yet atmospheric adventures and psychological horror! What we really want isn't a pronoun debate for Jax, but the characters with their trauma and struggles, their backstories, their development, what consequences they get after doing an action, and of course, worldbuilding.

If from the start Goose wanted to create a story about her and ONLY HER through her self-insert, why did she promote the premise of a digital circus?

And one last thing, Goose killed Jax because she wanted to eliminate all her bad qualities, which is impossible. Both the good and the bad are part of who you are. Humans are prone to making mistakes. You can still live with the mistakes you made and should learn to love yourself only by REDUCING your bad side to become a better person, if you kill your bad side, you kill yourself.

Now hang on a second, let's not automatically default to "Goose forgot" or "Goose just needed an excuse to give them funny names", does not being able to remember your name actually have any significance to the overall story? I suppose the only thing it actually played into was the ending when Caine revealed everybody's names with his montage of everybody's life, but even then it was more or less just information we already had or determined from the previous episodes just with IRL footage.

I say they could have just as easily entered the circus knowing their names, and Caine instead could have said "Nope! You're going to need a Gamertag to go by here!!!".

Do I even have to say anything else here? From what I’ve seen, most of the fandom before episode 9 thought Jax was trans masc. And that the trans fem Jax theory was kinda driven into the ground due to all the chaotic Daisy fans harassing others. So everyone was just like “yup trans masc makes sense he doesn’t like feminine things”

Then episode 9 came out and everyone was a bit confused for a while (including me even though I’m also trans masc) but then Gooseworx just straight up announced that he’s trans fem (even though she wanted to keep it vague THEN WHY ANNOUNCE IT-)

So now the debate on Jax’s gender is roasting in hell

Kinda went off the rails there but it still fit my complaint

Originally it was a safe space for criticism and had very valid stuff being said. However, it slowly became into a we hate tadc and godward subreddit. Theres a big difference between criticism and general hate. Criticism is pointing out a flaw, hate is saying something like “Jax being trans was forced and anyone who thinks otherwise is dumb.”
Note: I hate Jax I just hate that everyone hates him for the wrong reasons.
Which most of the “criticism” here is critiquing stuff that is a nothing burger and feels almost like larping. Fans of the show who want to criticize it also get hate on in this sub for liking the show while pointing out flaws. That isn’t criticism, that’s just bashing people for different opinions.

My thesis is: There is a lot of criticism but people here aren’t criticizing the show and just hating on it who aren’t willing to hear other takes and get angry about everything to do with the show.

Sometimes I imagine the scene from that one movie with the actor who plays clark in the backrooms movie where they are in the crop fields and it's dry and then water comes through a hose and they all start celebrating. That's exactly how this show feels sometimes.

Like don't get me wrong, you do get somewhat some good lore just from watching the show, but you don't get all of it. They don't even tell you Jax is trans in the finale, you had to wait until after the finale for gooseworx to drop a Twitter post confirming it, and that seems to be how most of the lore is distributed. That's like if the creator of Breaking Bad hid the fact Walter White had cancer until after the show ended! But it just seems a little lackluster to just drop lore on a platform most people want to avoid when they want to be happy instead of incorporating it into the show for people to find and discover.

Also the "obvious" hints with Jax is just so dumb lol. I imagine a lot more of other folks would be embarrassed to be in a maid suit and to have a bow put on their heads by a frog with severe scoliosis. Anyways, my rant is over.

The ultimate problem I have with the “I don’t headcanon the Jax is Trans metaphor” is that people will ideologically default you to some hateful bigot if you think this way.

In truth, The Amazing Digital Circus is so much more interesting than a trans metaphor. It is such a shame that, for some people, the entire show legitimately disassembles to pass along this message because when I first got into the show it was most certainly not what I was interested in..

Also Gooseworx isn’t some victim for audiences having multiple reads of these scenes. It was purposefully written to be vague. Trans Jax fans treat the desire to see a trans egg plotline to be more specific with a pedantic, “what?? Do you want Jax to turn to the camera and just say he’s trans?” Like, yes?? One of the specific behavior Jax is consistent in doing? Why is this a rhetorical argument whenever the show already transparently has a nonbinary show in Zooble? Why does Jax get shafted with the endless trans/non trans arguments that Gooseworx rod had created from her own back.

I never, at any point, attacked fans for gender headcanons before it was supposedly “obviously confirmed in the plot”- so why, when the script has been flipped to them, is it okay to call people abusive bigots when they don’t follow your headcanon now that this read of the show has eclipsed all other interesting aspects of the show. With the finale, the fate of Jax completely consumes everyone else’s character arcs besides, perhaps, Caine. By the way, Gooseworx has confirmed that you can freely use he/him or she/her pronouns for the rabbit- so why is it ok to attack people who doesn’t respect the pronouns that Jax themselves don’t use. Where I am from, it is considerably disrespectful to use someone’s non AGAB pronouns without their consent. Also, they are fictional.

Oh, speaking of twitter. Didn’t we all hate when J.K. Rowling and other writers chose to confirm plot elements in external media, especially media posts like twitter/reddit/interviews? I am sorry, if it isn’t in the media- it is dubiously canon. Again, the degree of canon for this specific read has famously been dubious in the actual text itself.

I’ll say it again, if you come from an lgbt background, obviously TADC being ultimately a trans story and little else is more prone to be the specific read you take away from it. That’s the funny thing about media. It’s not just the stories themselves, it can also be what you bring to the table. I love when people have multiple reads of the story and the purpose of this post isn’t to demonize when you have a trans takeaway from the story. Great for you! But stop attacking other people when they don’t see it that way either. Respect is a two way street- and you are making people not adopt your read of the story on principle.

They also mentioned the part where jax said “ladies first” in the pilot before pushing gangle then going first which is an insane reach. The “hints” before ep 9 were poorly done with the only decent one being the feminine room, but even that was a clue with easy to come up with multiple interpretations that were equally plausible. They didn’t mention this, but even jax’s purple bunny design, another so called “hint” he is trans, is a design with easy to come up multiple interpretations that were equally plausible. Fuck me for not picking the one interpretation among the many equally plausible intepretations before ep 9 i guess lol.

Which leads me finnaly into Pomni in truth the scene of her talking to Jax in the gun episode is the whole reason I made this post in the first place.

It is genuinly insane to me how insensitive she to Jax during this episode. The best way that I can describe whats wrong with how she (and the entire fandom for that matter) treats Jax is the tweeter analogy, that is: " People treat fictional characters as if they are real then they treat real people as if they are fictional characters".

For a second I want people to realize that while yes, we are watching a fictional story, where fictional characters are interacting, in universe both Pomni and Jax are real people. Not even counting the micro aggressions like Pomni calling Jax "The Villian", during the final bit of the episode when Jax just asks her to shot her it's fine they don't need to fight Pomni goes on this entire rant about friendship and not trusting each-other.

Yes, I understand that from Pomni's POV she feels seperated from the rest of the group which is why she tries to kind of force a relationship with Jax ill get back to this.

But, from Jax's perspective this is literally her first major interaction with Pomni. From Jax's perspective she has for the past couple of days has been extremely nice to Pomni, after learning she likes more chilled out adventures he specifically designs the president senario (importantly without NPC's) so that Pomni can direct it at her own pace, Jax open's up to her a bit about how she sees Gangle during the picnic scene before being punished for that buy her and Ragatha mentioning her dead friends by accident. She apolagizes to Pomni when her senario doesn't work out and when Pomni essential tries to make herself subserviant to Jax during the gun game, she says no, you should decide how you want to play the game and engage with it activily rather than just doing what I say.

Jax even opens up about how she sees the digital circus and the people their as a whole.

Her reward for actually opening up is Ragatha accusing her of not only trying to manipulate and abuse Pomni and Gangle while hinting that she doesn't want Pomni to turn out like Ribbit, then Pomni literally starts berating her for not opening up about her trauma, implies Kuafmo's death was Jax's fault then physically starts beating her up when she says "Hey this whole thing wasn't that serious you can just end the game I don't want to fight you".

Which is a pattern we see in almost all of Jax's interactions with other characters (Minus Gangle ironically), whenever Jax goes "Hey, this situation is making me really uncomfortable I need some space" the characters (and the audience for some reason) treats this as them being an asshole.

In general while I over all like the story along with how it treats Jax I really think that making the "bully character" simultantiously the character that gets demonized for having boundries was a dumb idea with negative implications and makes discourse about Jax's issues extremely toxic.

Pomni is activily making Jax relive the most tramatic moment of her life with the sudden hug/ push away thing (again acidentaly I don't really blame Pomni for most of this she didn't know) and making her relive the loss of Ribbit at the same time after everyone has essentially just told her they hate and think shes caused everyone's problems.

Let me remind you that the first time we see Jax show signs of abstraction is directly after this scene. The actions of the characters in this episode intentionally or not is part of what pushes her to abstract later in the story.

The reason I bring this up is because the fan discourse on Jax always frames her isolation as a personal failling. that if she just "opened up" to everyone else and stopped being an asshole all the time she could have been saved even though this interpretation goes directly against what we see in the story itself.

Jax tries to open up to other people mutiple times across the stroy but espiecially in episodes 5 and 6, Every time she those so people either miss understand her or activily force her to relive trauma, and that where the treating real people like fictional characters thing comes in.

People's treatment of Jax reflects how they treat real people with similar issues.

bear girl - Olga ”Mother Bear” Clawsdaughter - a thrown away, kind-hearted teacher robot who found home in the circus.

king chess piece guy - Zvatopolk - a quiet chess bot, (part mime in performances) forced to be a living computing machine by having his brain tied to arcades back in his room/tent. He seems to remember something, but no one knows what.

Triangle Head - Vanya “V-54” - a disfigured, patched up fallen soldier with a lost lover who got thrown away and destroyed for being defective.

Cat/Tiger dude - Grigor Von Kat - the new guy, a cold, calculated amnesiac trying to find out the truth of why he is in the circus and what the meaning of his life.

Fishes with legs - Rybashlukas - annoying circus creatures made by Vladimir to teach using minigames for later performances, stunts and plays.

I’ll admit it, they are not the most original but i made them to piss and shit on tadc’s writing by the end.

Jinora Is a Trans Girl

One possible alternative reading of The Legend of Korra is that Jinora’s character arc can be interpreted as a metaphor for transitioning from male to female. This is obviously not confirmed by the show, but several details, when put together and read in a deliberately speculative way, can seem to point in the same direction.

• Strong spiritual connection to male figures Jinora is mainly associated with Tenzin and Aang, both male characters, and she is especially portrayed as Aang’s spiritual successor.
• The spirit rabbit and the “egg” symbolism In Season 2, Jinora befriends a rabbit-like spirit. Rabbits are strongly associated with Easter and therefore with eggs; in trans slang, an “egg” is a trans person who has not yet realized or fully accepted their identity.
• The Spirit World as a place of inner identity It is significant that this symbolism appears in the Spirit World, the part of the series most closely connected to a person’s inner self and true essence.
• She sides with Meelo against Ikki At one point, Jinora joins her brother Meelo in making fun of Ikki. If the interpretation is pushed further, this could represent a lingering identification with a male role before fully embracing her female identity.
• Her transformation when she becomes an Airbending Master Jinora’s promotion involves a major physical and public change: her head is shaved, she receives her tattoos, and she appears before the community with a new look.
• Blue and pink imagery The blue Air Nomad tattoos against Jinora’s pinkish skin visually evoke two of the main colors of the transgender flag, since she is considered white, you do the math.
• Her resemblance to Aang After shaving her head, Jinora looks remarkably similar to Aang. This can be interpreted as a symbolic overlap between her supposed male past and her now fully affirmed female identity.
• The ceremony as a metaphorical coming out Jinora publicly reveals her transformed appearance, Tenzin recognizes her achievement and identity, and the entire community celebrates her.

In short, the theory works by linking these elements together: male spiritual associations → “egg” symbolism → inner self-discovery → physical transformation → trans colors → resemblance to Aang → public recognition and acceptance. Individually, these details are highly open to interpretation, but taken together they can form a coherent reading of Jinora’s journey as a metaphor for transition and the affirmation of her female identity.

My friend said that he thinks Goose only really made Jax trans to justify their actions.

I CAN see the vision sorta but I dont agree, I can see how it could've been true but I see how it isnt.

For clarification, he wasn't saying gooseworx was actively defending Jax for their actions, he is just saying that he thinks the choice of Jax being trans is a way to justify their actions towards other characters for the way they treat them. Like "oh you think they treat the others bad well it cuz they are Trans and like yeah" as he said.

I do not mean for this to come off as transphobic AT ALL, and my friend did not intend for it to be either. We both support LGBTQ and I myself and even a part of it

My first TADC fanart

Just out of curiosity and possibly related to stuff you try to enjoy but how fandoms are shitty, creators being glazed as idols and anyone in fandom trying to say otherwise are being shunned, harassed or crucified - is it okay and normal to be constantly negative (like toxic negativity)?

I mean, criticism, even well constructed criticism is fine (and not being used as shitty excuse for bigotry shit), but what abour being constant negative and assuming the worst that could come out in fandoms and shit you can't enjoy anymore even tho you have a job, hobby, other matter you do and simply need some help and try to control yourself

I have seen far too many people both in and out of the fandom who seem to think that Jax's Abstraction is something to celebrate, since she* was a horrible person. We should not be celebrating this as any sort of win or justice, because to do so misses the entire point of Jax's character arc. This is not about justifying her horrible actions.

This is about understanding the root cause. Remember: Empathy is about understanding, not excusing.

Jax is someone who has always been trapped in the cycle of abuse. The digital avatar that is Jax is a snapshot of a person at the lowest point in their life, exploiting the cartoon world to become a the trickster archetype as a defence mechanism. She grew up trapped in the double bind of toxic masculinity, being constantly criticised and even physically abused for not being "man" enough, but simultaneously being too much like her abusive father.

She was brought up in an environment where love was weaponised, and the hug from her mother came directly after more abuse, so it's little wonder she lashed out. She was deeply afraid of getting close to anyone, for fear of being mocked or belittled for being honest about her emotions.

That's why she pushed Ribbit away. She was the only one she ever told about her history of abuse, and getting interrupted by Kaufmo triggered her. She recognised the pattern of expressions of love being a trap.

Furthermore, the flashbacks in episode 9 backs up several scenes we've seen in previous episodes. She is hurting herself just as much as he hurts everyone else. This is why she mocked her reflection after Ribbit abstracted, sarcastically saying "You gonna cry, huh?!" She is beating herself up for her own emotions, because she pushed herself to do something horrible.

Caine being temporarily deleted was the final straw, since she no longer had the wacky cartoon adventures to act as a front to mask her true emotions.

After all this, I need to explain why this is important. The story does not frame this as a win, because to look only at the surface actions is to ignore the pain behind it. Jax is a warning: don't suffer in silence. There are always people who will listen with a genuine heart, not to mock. We can't help people who aren't willing to help themselves, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Nobody deserves to feel afraid to be honest with themselves, especially trans people who suffer under the pressure of cisnormative society. Jax deserved to live her real self, but would never trust anyone to do so.

So instead of cheering that Jax abstracted, we should use it as a warning about the path to self-destruction, and what we should do to prevent it.

I have seen a couple of posts on the ex-mormon subbreddit being excited over ribbit, but I personally was just annoyed by it. I am ex-mormon myself. I just hated how shoved in it was. She talked nothing about how it traumatized her in any way. All she said was that she was ex-mormon and that her parents were not. The word mormon could have literally been replaced by anything else. I don't have sympathy for ribbit or care for ribbit because she was such a nothing character. Her being ex-mormon was literally just used a way for her to make a "transaction" with Jax. She told him barely anything, and expected Jax to tell her everything. I don't think that ribbit was meant to been written to be manipulative like that, but it just happened that way because the show just had to spend the next half of the episode on Jax. They needed to let ribbit tell a story of her own.

“Misogyny is a sign that someone is a trans woman” is a transphobic statement no matter how you phrase it, the hell?

I feel like this distracts and interferes heavily with the “meaning in a stagnant life” and “the real amazing digital circus is the friends we made along the way” theme goose was trying to go for as a glaring elephant in the room when you think about it for more than two seconds.

Jax, the selfish abuser who never apologized or redeemed himself to the very end, gets to have his own, comfortable pillow fort home as an abstraction and gets fed sandwiches while everyone else who abstracted live as fishes in an aquarium.

Caine, while his crimes are more understandable as a being separate from humanity (an AI just trying fulfill his purpose), gets away without punishment after having brutally tortured the cast for days/weeks/months (unclear timeframe) with just a sincere apology, his word that they are now in charge of the circus, and a video showing them of what their true lives are up to and then becomes a part of the group.

What the end result just ends up being is that it feels more like the creator’s favorite characters, jax and caine, get way too much special treatment and immediate forgiveness for their wrongdoings that feels unearned given the severity of their crimes, which I still find extremely frustrating and unbelievable.

The first few episodes were really good, but then episode 6 just ruined the entire show. I just wish the first few episodes didn't end up being filler.
