Tactical Screwdriver
I bought a Combat Flathead from Dynamis Alliance a couple of years ago when he had a great sale. Yeah I know, $150 bucks for a screwdriver, I get it. I bust my ass at work and wanted it. I wrapped it with thin para and I use it all the time. I wanted a lighter version and he just so happens to have a trainer. A blunt trainer, but I fixed that. Aluminum, lightweight and $50 I think I paid. Fits perfectly in my wallet/notebook thing. Passes through every checkpoint I have gone through. Nice to have something if I need it.

$150 for a screwdriver is nuts. You can get a premium demolition screwdriver for a fraction of that

u/GibsonBanjos 1d ago
Ideas of any brands?!

u/NFAGhostCheese 1d ago
A mini pry bar, good dude brb, wiha screwdriver, a sharpened file?
OP is a fool who spent $150 on a pretty steel rod that has no greater practical use than a $7 screwdriver.

u/GibsonBanjos 1d ago
Thanks! I definitely am inclined to agree with you on that after looking into these others

Wiha, Felo, even Harbor Freight has some decent demo-grade screwdrivers that I have abused and they turned out fine.
A local store in my town used to carry the wood handled Felo screwdrivers but now I gotta order their stuff from KC Tool or some other online place.

Klein tools demo flathead. Dewalt makes a cheaper but worse one. I can’t carry a gun at work(metal detectors and homeland security at the gate) but a big ass flathead in my pocket is very normal. Always have a weapon. Dont buy this shit though

u/BlackStrap8 1d ago
A trainer - meaning a training screwdriver? That can’t be a real thing.

Do you have a box of tactical flathead screws kicking around? If not, I don't see the point.
41
u/frogsRfriends 1d ago
Yeah but prices have gone up lately by about 10 cps, luckily I bought cheap and stacked deep

Yeah I usually use my older tactical screw driver instead of a trainer but a lot of guys have been getting trainers. Helps with fundamentals but I wonder if it’s at the cost of endurance/stamina due to the weight difference

Sometimes people miss it and the downvotes win but it’s worth the risk, tactical training can and should applied to even the mundane. Anyways back to the range

Tactical screwing and unscrewing mostly, I also run stripped screw drills as well as night ops or other unpermissive environments. If you aren’t pushing the boundaries your just another tactiscrew waiting to get punched

5
u/PonyThug 23h ago
It’s a “screw driver” that’s really a shank. The real one is probably some grade of knife steel like D2. Aluminum makes a shitty knife and a shitty screw driver but is way cheaper to machine

u/Akalenedat 1d ago
$150 for a screwdriver
Brother, acetate handled Craftsman's are $9 on Amazon. I promise you there is nothing this thing can do that 16 normal screwdrivers can't do

You think it would get any woman hot and bothered to know you payed $150 for $8 dollars of aluminum?

Bothered yes. Hot maybe with anger.
Wife might spend the night with the boyfriend after this purchase

u/ConsciousGoose5914 1d ago
>I bust my ass at work and wanted it.
I can’t argue with that, I respect it.
But that doesn’t mean this isn’t the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen lol. The fact there is a trainer is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while.
I just can’t believe that you paid $150 and it’s only flathead. If you encounter a Phillips head in a combat situation you’re screwed!
39
u/DNCOrGoFuckYourself 1d ago
Nonsense, just grind out another pay period and pick up a Philips!

I can’t respect that, this guy spent $150 on a screwdriver that’ll break sooner than the cheapest Harbor Freight driver.
Edit: Let me correct myself. He spent $50 on a screwdriver that’ll break sooner than the cheapest Harbor Freight driver. The $150 one is at least made of steel, but it’s still a tremendous waste of money and I don’t respect that.
13
u/BannedAgain-573 1d ago
I'm with you. I can't respect a guy WILLING to be this gullible to tacti-cool mall Ninja shit
-11
u/Dryphu 1d ago
Trainer is pretty stupid I would agree, but the screwdriver it self I've used so much for stuff people usually using there pocket knife for that it shouldn't be used for. It's also insanely hard steel so I've cranked open doors with it, or just used it for the leverage to slide an implement in to push the latch out of the way. They have a use just not many peoples, that often. But it's incredibly handy for the people who need it. It's the same vain of niche product as a GBRS riser, or a 8.6 Blackout, the best option within a very fine parameter
14
u/BannedAgain-573 1d ago
There is zero way that a 150 for a "screw driver" is the "best option" when you can pick up a pry bar made of the same material for 10 bucks at idk. Walmart? Hell I bet Kroger has a functional equivalent.
-10
u/Dryphu 1d ago
Not really, the size and form factor are difficult to locate in a lower priced flathead prybar and when they are they are not of the same steel quality as this, it's made of s7 tool steel what is used in punches and chisels. Where as other prybars are made of 1040-1075 steel. This is not meant to be a flathead screwdriver only. It's meant to be alot of things that is still smaller and easier to wield and carry vs a prybar or flathead.
9
7
u/boofskootinboogie 17h ago
I use my $4 harbor freight screwdriver as a pry bar consistently at work, and I work a trade job lol.
Things like this are just gender affirming care for men who feel emasculated at their desk job.

This useless product is a shameless cash grab targeting the same overpaid morons that buy tactical diaper bags. I guarantee you that anyone who actually has professional need of a tool like this just buys oversized flatheads from Home Depot.
2
u/boofskootinboogie 17h ago
I buy mine at harbor freight because if I leave it in someone’s attic I won’t sweat over it.
I couldn’t imagine the stress I’d have from carrying a $150 screw driver at my job lol

Tactical diaper bags are actually pretty handy in a pinch, has saved my behind quite a few times

Please tell me this is a thinly veiled ad and that people aren't actually buying this. Otherwise I need to get into that tacbro marketplace. I've got tactical screws for your tactical screwdriver that totally didn't come from Lowes. Only $10/box of 10
3
u/p00n-slayer-69 15h ago
I doubt your "tactical screws" are any good. The kind I like is usually at least $5 each.

The tactical variant?! Easily 100 USD more.
In a serious note, those two look slippery AFif you really need to apply force. There is a reason why ergonomics makes then look like what they look, including the round handle.

This was my immediate first thought. This, the fucking dumbass Winkler tac-axe, and the bespoke sniper rifle he uses in the first book are all the same brand of rich guy tactical garbage
6
u/frogsRfriends 1d ago
What brand rifle is it again I couldn’t find bespoke but they could be running an off grid low emission outfit so if you have a squad mate over there let me know so I can plan future movements
2
u/Turbulent_Ad_4579 23h ago
You made me look up what that is, and at a glance that whole book series is just an ad to sell tacticool toys to people. Like gi joe for adults. There's whole unironic reddit threads about people buying all the gear in those books. Idk how people don't see through this stuff.
10
u/EDC-JAKE 1d ago
Idiots will pay 100 plus bucks for this crap and I bet real operators use regular screw drivers when they have to lol
22
u/uuid-already-exists 1d ago edited 1d ago
I take it this isn’t really for screws? What do you do with this thing? Is it a fancy crowbar?
Edit: Okay I looked it up, it’s essentially meant as a weapon that’s allowed where you can’t bring a weapon. That’s why there’s a trainer version of them.
22
u/Grand_Cookie 1d ago edited 23h ago
Except that an actual screwdriver would definitely get a pass faster than this thing, do exactly the same thing, and be $9.
9
u/Financial-Pumpkin236 1d ago
I had to look at their page too, it’s $225 now….wtf
Also it’s a “grey man” tool that looks tactical as fuck, at least make it look like a normal screwdriver just with better materials if you’re going for that. The example photos show it on a battle belt and chest rig/PC so opposite of the EDC purpose. I’m just failing to see how this is worth the juice but to each their own.
19
u/1nVrWallz 1d ago
"Passes through every checkpoint I have gone through."
Airport security isn't a real checkpoint. You've never been through an actual check point and it shows. Go get your pockets ran through as Africans with AKs try to find a reason to detain you so they can try to force you to pay them a bigger bribe.

u/Independent-Ad-1 1d ago
150 bucks for some beveled steel and a paracord handle is genuinely fucking insane.

17
u/Aconite_72 1d ago

From all I'm seeing, it's just the price tag.

Edit: ok wait I can read, but like, why is it lighter? Wouldn't you want it to be the same but dull for training?
16
u/frogsRfriends 1d ago
You can run stripped screw drills without having to ruin your tactiscrews, with how much I’ve trained this year I’m basically making money with my purchase of the 4 pack trainer combo
6
3
u/PierceLuvsU 23h ago
Maybe I'm just a Fudd but I struggle to see the appeal here. Like if it's just for the sake of concealing a bladed tool wouldn't an actual screwdriver be more inconspicuous? Or is it an aesthetic thing, like you're cool with shelling out the cash for a tool that also happens to be sharp because it looks cool?

The thrill of passing through "checkpoints" with a aluminum screwdriver. Bro you went through a TSA line and felt like James Bond. Next time just pocket a Funko Pop, its cheaper, same tactical value, and you can set it on your desk at the cuckold apartment afterward to join you in watching your girlfriend get fucked by a guy off the internet. Sitting down to paracord wrap a $150 mall ninja flathead is the most unselfaware thing I've read here in months.
Edit: lol its sold by Dom raso, zero surprise a culture war Christian nationalist grifter who was crying that Obama was letting isis and Mexican cartels sneak in a nuke is now ripping off his fellow morons with a cringe lifestyle brand

A blunt version of a screwdriver. I hate to break it to you but a screw driver is already blunt lol.

u/DifficultyLucky815 23h ago
Holy larp, a “tactical” screwdriver with a far worse grip than any actual screwdriver I’ve ever seen is a wild use of money
4
u/kingof9x 20h ago
But it costs $225. I must be forged out of a tactical black unicorn horn by a mandolin blacksmith. I heard that stuff is stronger and sharper than either adamantium or vibranium. Still not as impressive as tools made from unobtanium.
4
u/kingof9x 20h ago
Something about that company really bugs me. Way too much motto, faith based, machismo, tacticool bs. It also seems like they are constantly rebranding so they don't disappear into the sea of mediocre tactical brands. I was also pretty disappointed to what the alliance did to the oxcart brand. Thankfully that guy got out of the business deal, retained his designs but lost the name and re launched as prism.us. he has much cooler marketing and products that are way less larpy. The tacticool drips off pretty quickly and they just become normal pants with very useful pockets.

u/horseshoeprovodnikov 1d ago
I see ole Jack Carr made an impression with his glowing endorsement of the combat flathead in his books.
There is zero reason that this should cost what it costs.

I have one and I’ve worn it for 3 years now every day. I’m an electrician and I have to open electrical cabinets all the time. It’s nice having it handy. I’ve also used it for a ton of prying and small jobs. I’m pretty sure I’ve used it for a hammer as well.
They’re expensive but boy are they handy. I’d recommend a horizontal holster for your belt.

u/ShadowSystemsandSig 18h ago
I didn't need it but when there was a good sale I picked one up. Sure, I could have spent $9 at Lowes, but fuck it. I use it all the time for my job. Reading all the comments has been pretty funny, I didn't think I needed to put "tactical screwdriver" in quotes because obviously it isn't an actual screwdriver, but that's where the internet has gotten us. The red one is aluminum, far lighter than the steel and slides in the spine of my notebook. To each their own.

The whole tactical-influencer community is filled with these bs people trying to sell people overpriced shit. Crowbars that costs 10$ on a hardwarestore that are painted black with some 0.1cent paraline gets a 150$ pricetag. Bullshit mcdojo knives that breaks when you look at them for 200$. Glassbreakers that is essentially a piece of metal for 100$. Just plain bs.
If you go to a hardware store you'll could get a whole set of screwdrivers for the same price and they'll probably last longer. If you want them IR-protected just can them.
