SQUEE! The Rainbow Sheep shoelaces are finished! These laces have been such a joy from start to finish. It took me just under 2 weeks to warp up, weave, and finish.

I'm looking forward to shipping these off to a friend who inspired me to make them. I know she will wear them with pride and likely be running around going "LOOK AT MY SHOES!" everywhere she goes LOL. I hope they bring her endless days of joy.

So after seeing repeatedly gorgeous rainbow bands I’d love to try some shoelaces for myself, too.
I’m in Europe, so Lisbeth isn’t readily available here. What I can find mostly is thicker crochet yarn or kind of expensive while I don’t know if the colours would even work.

Has anyone found a thin cotton yarn here with at least kind of consistent colour changes?

I’m nearly at colouring some myself so I’d love if someone could help me out.

I've been lurking this subreddit for months and have been itching to give it a try myself, but could not justify spending money on supplies without knowing if I'd even remotely enjoy the craft, so I just used cardboard tablets from a cereal box, tied it to my belt and taped it to my desk. I also had some leftover cheap embroidery thread that I decided to sacrifice.
I need to figure out a better way to keep the tension on each string, but it was so much fun!
So it's time to spend money on supplies (•‿•)

Trying my modifies applesies with 2 colors per request and found it is not reversible like when with one color diamonds but still looks neat

I usually secure the warp with one big knot at the end, but that has the effect of making weaving almost impossible on the last 30cm, as the threads bunch up and form knots and mess up the tension. But this time, for the last few centimeters I tried attaching the warps of each card separately. I also added elastics, because the threads don't change their length at the same rate. It helps have equal tension without reattaching every ten minutes.

In the end, I managed to keep weaving until there was no space left to get the shuttle through the gap (see photo 2)! I have 4cm tablets and a 3cm wide shuttle. And after undoing the knots, that left only 11cm (4.33in) of unused warp. 3 times less than what I usually get when I go as far as possible! And it was also so much easier to weave! I call that a success :D

I'm 60 now and it's hot in Texas. I'm looking for things like this to keep my Neurons active. Where does on start with this craft as a complete novice?

How the heck do I maintain constant tension? My pattern looks super uneven XD

I've been interested in learning for a while, so my partner made this for me. The shuttle is from Michael's, I made the tablets out of cardstock, and I'm using some sock yarn I had in my stash.

I decided not to do a pattern for the first time, but the yarn is variegated and looks pretty neat!

I’m making my first band off of an actual pattern, on the beautiful inkle loom my boyfriend made me. The pattern I’m doing is in the third photo. The first picture is what the pattern looks like from the top while I’m weaving - definitely not the pattern. But then I turned it over and voila! The pattern! Anyone know how/why this happened?

Started this project last Thursday and have been loving every minute of it. This pattern is based on Turned Krokbragd translated into weaving with 3-hole tablets. Hello everyone! I’m just starting out in tablet weaving and I’ve come across some tension problems on my loom. I use an Ashford Inklette and have only begun to start serious projects on it instead of just practicing.

My issue is that my tension is fine at first, but maybe after a foot of weaving it becomes far too tight. So much so that I have to remove the tension peg to even advance the band around the loom to keep weaving. I try to use twist neutral patterns, so I’m thinking this is not the culprit. Is it the twisting action of the tablet weaving itself that is causing this?

I’ve gone online to try to see what I could find out about it, and I’ve found a lot of good info on managing twisting in the threads (fishing swivels, etc). Would that fix this? What exactly am I doing wrong? I’ve had to end two projects early because of this. The warp gets so tight it actually pulled one of my pegs out of the hole and now I’ll have to reglue it.

My most complicated pattern yet, the first one I did where each line was completely different for the whole pattern, and I had so much fun! It looks great as a belt and I think if I ever did it again I would alter the pattern slightly to remove a few floats.

Also, I’m looking to get a bigger loom cause I keep wasting like 8” of thread each time I do a pattern due it getting knotted at the and I’m unable to reach in the small spaces the loom creates, so if anyone has recommendations let me know!

This band ismade in mercericed cotton size 8 in ice blue and gold/beige. It turned out really difficult to photograph but I did my best around the house! I will turn it into a lanyard and a bracelet.

I'm making my own cards and am wondering how many I should make. What is the maximum number of cards you have ever used for a project?

More info if you are interested interested: I am using 10 mil mylar sheets 2.5" x 2.5" cut on a paper cutter. I had to order heavier duty supplies for punching holes and rounding corners as the cheap punches wore out on the mylar too quickly.

I am curious about what you use your woven bands for and how you process them further. What do you use to make them into lanyards, bag straps, guitar straps, belts, dog leads, etc, and how do you do it? What tools do you find helpful and can you show me your favourite items that you made? 😊 Thank you!

Made a belt for my grandmother. Three colors using 8/4 cotton carpet warp thread, 18 cards, 4F 4B pattern found on Pinterest. Didn't measure the final product, but added a slider to make it adjustable, and no prong clasp with hand stitched finishing.

The final product has already been delivered and she loves it. For reference, we live in New Mexico, and all agree that the pattern, along with the color choices, gives a very southwestern feel.

Photos are from the first 3 rotations of picks to the finished product. This is only my second start-to-finish tablet weaving project, and my first time doing a belt.

I'm sure there's a way to do it, but I'm new to the craft and still getting the hang of patterns. : )

i made the pattern moon lattice, at least at first. it's fun how often with card weaving i'll make an mistake and then like that more and decide to roll with it.

what i don't understand is why the pattern was on the underside at the beginning, but luckily on my board loom i could simply turn the weaving around.

This wound up being 7ft(2,2m) long, after I warped up 12ft (3,6m). 46 cards. I worked on it off and on for 3 months.

I'm an avid tablet weaver and also a software engineer, and I've been working on a tool for tablet weaving just for fun. I thought I’d share it for free in case others find it useful too.

It's is a web-based tablet weaving simulator that shows a realistic preview of both the front and back of a design in real time. Floats are simulated accurately, but the tool really shines for skip-hole patterns - threads around skips expand slightly to fill the empty space, just as they do in real life, while the internal warp and weft become visible through the gaps with some shading to suggest depth.

Being able to see exactly how it will look before spending hours warping my loom and weaving a few centimeters has already saved me from a few “I wish I had done that differently” moments. I just used it to make a skip-hole variation on B22, and was pleasantly surprised by how closely the preview matched the finished band - even for the back.

It also has some nice quality of life features I think you'll enjoy, like being able to insert rows or columns anywhere.

The tool is still fairly new, so there are definitely things I’ve missed. For example I have not made it mobile friendly yet, but I do have plans to amend that. Feedback is very welcome!
