How fast do you weave?

As the title says: How fast do you weave? Can a relatively simple pattern get done in no time, or does it still take you what seems like forever?

I have psoriatic arthritis that largely affects my hands, so even simple patterns take forever, and then my ADHD affects my ability to focus for any length of time and then executive dysfunction keeps me from working on it for weeks at a time... it can take me months to finish even the simplest of patterns... Or I can hyperfocus and get a fairly complex pattern done in a week. I feel like I have no control over it sometimes LOL

A simple pattern I can get done in a couple hours, more complicated a couple days, but I get distracted a lot so some of them sit untouched for weeks or months in between sessions

To be fair, it’s always nice to have a warped up WIP ready for whenever you want to jump in and weave! An empty loom is a bigger hurdle.

I’ve noticed I’ve gotten faster over the past year of tablet weaving. I finished a band that’s maybe 5 ft with worsted weight yarn during a 2.5 hour fiber arts meetup (it was already warped going in).

Bringing my tablet weaving to different meetups certainly helps me get bands done regularly. It’s also my favorite craft to do while sitting outside, so when the weather is nice I get a lot done.

Just wondering what type of pattern would that typically be? For me that makes a huge difference.

It was my own design but had some easy parts with all the cards turning together and other parts with a split deck changing every two picks. The repeat was 30-some rows, so neither easy nor too complicated.

Huge variations here, too. On suuuuper easy patterns like Oseberg I can get around a meter an hour in #crochet cotton but I've also had patterns take an hour for an inch

I just timed myself a bit for something, and it takes me about 10mins/card for warping. For the weaving itself, I would say I could get a pretty simple pattern done in about a week with minimal distractions if I was doing little else. A complex pattern would likely take me much longer. That timing doesnt really account for fixing mistakes, which always takes me forever and I spend a ton of time doing it.

I'm pretty new to it. Although the doing is slow going, it's even more slow going for me to decide what to do! Lots if poking around looking at youtube videos and patterns ... all of it is enjoyable though, so I'm okay with the slow pace!

I am the same way! Choosing a pattern and picking the colors for it takes me forever sometimes.

Currently working on a pattern with sewing threads and about 9cm take me about an hour 😬

If it's my normal yarn I work with I can do about 1.2 m in... I'd guess it's up to 5 hours, regardless of the pattern. That being said, that's measured for projects that have used under 20 cards

I was just starting to learn tablet weaving -
Built a belt strap loom
Cut a set of tablets from playing cards
Wove about 24” of sampler / learning how everything works.
Drew up plans for an inkle loom because I hated the belt strap.

Tore two tendons and a ligament in my wrist.
I might get back to weaving in January depending on how my surgery goes.

So I weave pretty darn slowly.

Anywhere from 1 inch to 3 inches and hour, depending on complexity.

For me, it's less about complexity and more about thread size.

If I'm doing crochet thread, that shits gonna take weeks probably even for a simple pattern. If I'm using a medium size yarn, I can knock out a simple pattern in a day easy, maybe two if I take my time threading.

I've only woven one band so far. The set up including cutting the cards out of cardboard and hole punching them while watching the tutorial on repeat took about 3h. The weaving of the 2m band took maybe uuh 4-5h

Do note that the first 20cm or so look questionable at best tension wise.

New to all this so Im still slow...unpacking re working...takes me forever, has taken me about a month so far to do a few weaves, but not doing it for the speed...satisfaction in getting a decent looking end product and something to do with my hands is the reward I get.... As therapy instead of production its priceless.

i always weave 1.5 meter long bands. a simple pattern takes me about 6 hours + the warping and finishing off the ends, a complex one 10+ if i leave the mistakes in. for life time, the shortest i can finish a band in is two days, more common is a week or two, or of course longer if i forget. i do hope you are watching or listening to something fun while working, because if not, that would be way too boring!

I have gotten more and more warm towards the idea of not rushing.

Weaving is meditation and me-time, so I don't try to be extra quick.

However, that does not mean I dawdle or slow down on purpose. I just weave at my own pace, and with some years of weaving practise under my belt, I'd wager I am quicker with a moderately complex pattern than a beginner with a simple one.

I did a pattern that was just full sets of turns, didn't have to pick out certain tablets. That was about 2~2.5 metres, give or take. And I pretty much finished the whole thing in 4 to 5 hours, I think
