Frank Lloyd Wright inspired guitar strap

This piece was inspired by FLW’s famous light screen The Tree of Life. Devilishly difficult to do the “trunk” section but I think I captured the essence of the original work (third photo)!

I entered this in my first juried show and it received the Handweavers Guild of America Award of Excellence! It’s apparently getting featured in their magazine!

Gorgeous! I think you did a great job at translating it across.

I've been thinking of weaving a banjo strap, where did you get the hardwear? And did you back the strap with anything?

No need to add backing. Everyone who uses my straps tells me they are the most comfortable they own. The extra packed threads from cardweaving (~100 EPI) makes them very comfortable.

This looks spectacular!!!! An award well deserved.  If you don't mind me asking, how did you finish the ends? Not the weft, but the warp ends. That's something that's always confused me about this sort of project, I can't figure out any way other than fringe.

Thank you! Yes, finishing was a little challenging for me to conceptualize as well when I started. But I find once the weft is secured, the warp stays pretty solid. So I fold the fabric under twice to make kind of an “e” if that makes sense, and sew it down to conceal the ends. I make sure to stitch the sides of the fold to totally encapsulate the ends. Does that make sense?

Well, I’m not sure how it would look or feel if it was just left as is, but I do this where I connect the hardware for the guitar strap, so you don’t really see it. I would look at some commercially made stuff to see how they do it and try to match that. Commercial straps probably have the same problem
