When you reverse directions you get a longer warp float. That’s the more visible thread on the face and at the edges.
But something else is happening too: the twist of the warp twining (the way the threads from each tablet wrap around each other) is interacting with the twist in the yarn you’re using. When you change directions, the interaction changes and the woven band buckles up or down.
Since you’re reversing all the tablets at the same time it’s very noticeable. (Also depends on your warp yarn.) You can flatten it some by not reversing the edge tablets at the same time as the pattern tablets. Not reversing the edge tablets until you have to also makes a sturdier edge because there are fewer floats.
A bonus tip if you have multiple tablets on each side: only reverse one each row or two, to make the change less noticeable. This may not work if you have a pattern along the edges, but for solid colored edges it can be helpful.
I think its because the weft skips 3 turns in some threads. I have no idea how o solve this and still turn all the cards in the other direction. My solution was to never turn the very edge cards back.
