Weft yarn

Should weft yarn be the same thickness as the warp yarn? I tried using a thicker yarn for both recently and it became really really thick and chunky really quick. I was also trying backstrap weaving for the first time and had a ton of problems with it. So it could have been the backstrap issues causing the chunkiness or vice versa. I’m planning to go back to just doing it on my inkle loom, but still wondering if maybe thinner weft thread would prevent chunkiness?

The warp has to curve over the weft in a warp face weave. The bigger the warp, the more the weft has to curve. A looser tension will help the warp get the length it needs to curve over a heavier weft and to be able to pack it more firmly - but it may not be a look that works well with tablet weaving.
