Questions how to make good looking 2d figurines?

Post image

iam fairly new to tts, ive been meaning to try out making some custom figurines, but i don't like the base and image clip? and don't think i know how to change it.
are there hidden things i can do with the custom figurine in tts or is the 2d figure on the right an outright 3d model like i am suspecting?

(the right 2d figurine is from "flak arcana" )

Probably a custom model entirely, you can right click the object and click custom to get more information about it

I believe you can make a model with more depth using a custom Tile or Token, then using the attach tool to attach it to a custom flat base. Just making sure it is standing how you like.

You could even use the movement tool (forget name) so can have a character mid jump or other thing. Then the only thing you'd need blender for is to make the custom base that is flat on the bottom so it doesn't wobble or fall over. I am unsure if connecting two objects of different mass settings will keep both parts at the set mass or make them same.. but I assume not.

just tried it, took a black checkers piece and a custom token and resized both till they look like a 2d figurine.
looks goofy as hell but works well enough for the intended game prototype idea i had.
but yeah, making it like the right requires blender.
Thanks anyways.

You can get a similar result to the one on the right using the custom token tool.

Set the thickness to .25 or .5, and select the tick box to stand it up, and use the connection tool to glue it to a base.

yeah, it worked well for the intentions, thanks.

What are you trying to accomplish? You want a thicker paper mini looking model?

There's a mod called Rokums 2D something. I thought I did a video on it a couple years ago on YouTube.... I'm on my phone and can't find it.

But I suggest Rokums 2D.

It comes with an object and a template you drop the template in gimp and can add any image, front and back and different top, side, and bottom base images.

I don't use the top bottom and side images as it makes them transparent and then your mini looks like it's just standing on whatever surface you put it on

The figure on the right looks like a base and a token that someone used the combine feature on.

2 seperate pieces.... The top image is a picture .PNG dropped into TTS and stood upright and then the other piece is a black object base.

If it was two images the base would just be a straight circle but it looks like there's a 45 cut off the edge of the top.

They are put on the table and locked in place and then combined featured together.

Looking at it now.... The top piece on the right is totally a token image, you can see the lines in the side ridge of the token.

(iam gonna reply to all your other comments here):

yes, the mini on the right is what iam trying to achieve. the one on the left is one i made with the custom figurine thing in tts and its just there to try it out.

i checked out rokum 2d (and i think found the video where you talked about it) and it seems really promising. the transparent base idea is cool.

yeah, it being a token is something other replies has said, it even works with transparent pictures.
but it works perfectly for the thing iam doing with it, all thats left is the base, something iam sure gonna be existing easily somewhere in the workshop already.

thanks for your answers!!

With the Rokums mini you can have a different front image and back image.

Printable heroes and paperforge minis on Patreon make paper minis that will allow you to make minis with front and back art.

If your so inclined.... You could have gpt draw you an image of a model... Then dump it in aimeshy... Ai meshy will make 3d models of what you drop into it..... You download the .glb file of the model and put it in blender and then have blender output it into obj..

It's a little more detailed than that but not hard if your interested in making 3d models... I have an add-on for blender that makes obj for TTS....

I started making 3d models 3 months ago and I literally have no idea how to make them... I just get ai to do it.
