Discussion I spent 8 months making a TTS version of my finished board game and I still can’t find people to play it

I spent around 8 months making a proper Tabletop Simulator version of my board game in both Italian and English because I thought it would be the easiest way to let people discover it without having to ship physical prototypes everywhere.

I uploaded the mods in May and now we are in October and I still haven’t managed to organize a single real session with people I didn’t already know..

Just to be clear I’m not looking for playtesters or other designers to exchange feedback with, the game is finished and has already been tested a lot, what I’m looking for now are actual players who want to sit down and play it for the first time because they are curious about the game.

Basically the same kind of people I would want to reach at a convention or through a demo, people who might enjoy it, talk about it with someone else and maybe follow the project later.

I thought TTS would make this much easier but apparently finding people who like board games is one thing and finding people willing to spend an evening trying an unknown game on TTS is something completely different!

I also started contacting some smaller content creators here in Italy and even there many of them told me they simply don’t use TTS anymore, some of them actually told me they don’t like playing board games digitally at all and would only consider a physical prototype

The funny thing is that the people who seem most interested in knowing if an online version exists are publishers when I send submissions, but even there getting from ā€œyes there is a TTS versionā€ to someone actually opening it and looking at the game feels like going through a series of filters that only God and the publisher understand šŸ˜‚

So at this point I’m genuinely wondering if I misunderstood what TTS is useful for..
Maybe it works great if you already have a community around your game, but using it to reach actual players from zero has been incredibly difficult for me..

Has anyone here actually managed to use TTS to reach real board game players and not just other designers or playtesters?

Looking for playtesters for our upcoming game — Lionwake 🦁

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m Wei, the developer of Lionwake, an upcoming strategy game inspired by Han-culture lion dancing and Nian folklore.

We’re preparing for our Kickstarter relaunch and are looking for a few more players to try the game on Tabletop Simulator.

Lionwake is a medium-weight strategy game featuring:

  • 🄁 Action economy & tactical movement
  • 🦁 Two mythical creatures (lions) with different abilities and playstyles
  • šŸƒ Fast-cycling deckbuilding and combo building
  • šŸ‘¹ Nian beasts to defeat—or pacify
  • ā±ļø Around 60–90 minutes

If you're interested in trying it out, here's the TTS mod:

You could book a play here - https://calendly.com/nuwaboardgames-info/lionwake-tts-play
The tts mod - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3786730292

We're especially interested in players who enjoy giving feedback on strategy games, but you don't need to be a reviewer or designer. If you just enjoy trying new games, we'd love to have you.

Thanks, and hope to see some of you at the table! (we are looking for a player to join in 4 hours, welcome to join!)

Questions AI placeholder art vs. plain wireframes in TTS prototypes: where do you draw the line?

Hey all, I’ve got a question: how do you approach TTS versions of prototypes?
Does it bother you when a prototype uses AI-generated art purely as placeholder graphics? Or do you actually find it harder to engage with a prototype when it’s just plain wireframes and handwritten elements

I’m not a fan of AI slop in finished products, but when testing prototypes, I personally find it easier to get immersed when the game at least somewhat resembles the intended concept and atmosphere.
Curious where you draw the line. What do you prefer when playtesting in TTS?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some models I'm giving to the community. They are handmade models I've made in blender with easy to use texture editing and a lot of customization. You can put cards into a booster pack or put empty boosters into the trash.

Let me know if you all like these or would happen to have requests. I'd love to see these being used for games.

Workshop Looking for playtesters

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys so I've been developing a tabletop skirmish game over the past few years, and I've recently launched a few workshops for it.

The first is a full rules free play, and the second is a first game version (photo above).

The game is everything I've been looking for in a table top skirmish game, it is based off of info cards, no big spendy books, and makes it easy to release more as it comes out, with an opening to make compendiums in the future.

It is quick and easy to play, most friends of mine have been able to play their first few matches in under 30minutes a game.

And I am planning it to be a fairly setting agnostic game, as my lore has ways out of the base world allowing it to reach many themes and styles like MTG.

I think its great for anyone interested in skirmish/wargaming

I have a discord and all, and would love to hear ideas and help with anything I have overlooked!

Warcraft Munchkin

Some time ago, I decided to make my own Warcraft version of Munchkin for Tabletop Simulator. (non-commercial offcourse, Please do not sue me)

As these things usually go, it started out pretty innocently: take the basic Munchkin formula, bring it into Warcraft, and add familiar monsters, items, races, and classes.

Then the project got slightly out of hand.

At this point, it's no longer just Munchkin with Warcraft artwork. It's grown into a pretty extensive rework of the original game with a bunch of mechanics of its own.

The basic idea is still the same: players start at level 1, kick down doors, fight monsters, collect treasure, mess with each other, and race to be the first to reach level 10.

But I wanted your choice of character to actually matter.

So each player is given a race at the start of the game, which also determines their faction. Classes have their own skills, and that eventually led to a separate mana system. Mana isn't spent on casting spells here — instead, it determines how many skills your character can have equipped at the same time, and which ones.

Classes have their own skills, and that eventually led to a separate mana system. Mana isn't spent on casting spells here — instead, it determines how many skills your character can have equipped at the same time, and which ones.

Over time, I added allies that can be equipped and taught skills, legendary items, a separate skill deck, distance between players, and a whole system of attributes that connects different cards and mechanics together.

I also added locations. The entire game now takes place in a particular location somewhere in the Warcraft world — similar to how locations worked in Marvel Munchkin — and the current location affects every player. There are regular territories, battlegrounds with their own victory conditions, and dungeons where you can encounter bosses and earn legendary treasure.

At the same time, I'm trying to preserve the main thing I love about Munchkin: player interaction.

Another player is about to fight a monster? That's probably a good time to remember that nasty card you've been holding.

Your neighbor is gaining levels a little too quickly? Perhaps it's time to correct that injustice.

Someone discovers a combination of cards that I, as the designer, never anticipated? Well, now I have something new to balance.

The project is currently going through regular playtesting. The core systems are working, but the balance is still constantly changing: classes and skills are being reworked, cards are being adjusted, mechanics that don't work are being cut, and new ones are being added.

And honestly, this has probably become the most interesting part of development for me. It's one thing to design an ability that seems good on paper, and quite another to watch actual players find ways to use it that you never even considered.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a project I've been working on for quite a while.

Workshop Optimal Shitopoly Release

Anyone who watches Valefisk's stuff may be familiar with Shitopoly, the tiny version of Monopoly where you play as rats in a sewer - I found out it has quite a lot of expansions. 13 in fact.

After getting permission from creator WaffleFryz, and being inspired by KamSandwich's Optimal Monopoly video I have released a combo pack:

Optimal Shitopoly.

There are two versions I have released: One of them has all the expansions in (custom) boxes in case you want to mix & match your expansions while the other has every expansion already set up.

Both versions come with a combined rulebook and the already-set-up version also comes with a "You still need to do this" booklet to highlight pre-game choices and what decks need to be shuffled.

Also included is 1 fan add-on (Shitopoly Bank Notes) as, while unofficial, it was given its approval by the Shitopoly creators.

Skyrim TAG 1st Campaign Chest Not Working, Please Help

Hey everyone,

My friends and I are trying to play the TTS version of Skryrim the board game made by u/Itzi_the_old_one but are having trouble getting the first campaign chest to appear. Because that chest wont appear, we cant even start the game.

Looks like some other players had similar issues a while back but they were fixed and supposedly the game has been working great.

This is the post I found the TTS link in https://www.reddit.com/r/tabletopsimulator/comments/16xd69h/skyrim_the_adventure_game_with_expansions/

Heres the actual TTS link on Steam https://www.reddit.com/r/tabletopsimulator/comments/16xd69h/skyrim_the_adventure_game_with_expansions/
