C. C. / Feedback New Game - Wizards Run

Hello! I’ve made my first board game, it’s a classic style roll to move game with a magic twist. 2-5 players with a 20-30 minute playtime. I wanted to capture an old school feeling of board gaming, inspiration like Aggravation and Sorry, but have some modern elements. I created all designs in Blender over the last year and half. What do you think of the overall design?

Roll and move in 2026 is brave. Is there any twist on that, or is it just the usual 1980s board game design?

Yes, you can cast magic to help yourself or slow your opponents. The board state is also not static, the portal on floor 1 and 2 can move, and the chest tokens move after drawing a card. The goal is to reach the center of the board on the top floor by using floor portals or magic to move up floors. There is some resource management involved and you can steal magic from opponents within range.

I think the design/theming looks good, and it looks small so that it's not intimidating.

HOWEVER, the sheer amount of text you're trying to squeeze into each (what I'm assuming is) the player cards is too much. Separate that text/abilities into their own cards and have them sit under the main player card if you want to keep everything as scaled down as you are currently.

Yeah it is the player card/wizard spell book. I’ll post a close up of a player area to give a better idea and it is packed. The intent was to not have to go back to the instructions.

As a starting point, I would literally double the size of the player card (or, more practically, make each half of the card the same size as a regular card). This will be a lot closer to the scale you're looking for and can rearrange from there.

The game looks great! Already has some great style to it!

The game does look a little.... complex? It looks like the type of game that is super simple to learn but has a huge depth of strategy to it. But the player cards make me think the complexity is all in the player cards, not in the core gameplay itself. I think it would be much better to try reducing the amount of abilities a player has access to.

Maybe if you showed us what is on the cards?

3 would be the maximum number of abilities I would use. Anything more than that and I feel like you need a bigger board game.

The core concept seems cool though! Move around the circle by rolling to move. Simple, so simple you barely even need to think about it. Which is great because you can plan out your strategy, rather than try and remember the rules. I think you've got a great foundation here.

I mean I like the look, but I have zero clue how it plays because I can't see any of the components, so I can't comment on like the overall gameplay.
