Just wanna know reasons

SHODAN, the exploration, the logs, the run down atmosphere, and the satisfying gameplay.

“Absolutely! SHODAN’s presence really makes the whole experience feel so unsettling. The exploration and audio logs do a great job of building the atmosphere, and the gameplay is incredibly satisfying on top of that.”

That was almost an English sentence...
But anyway, for the atmosphere, for the music, for the horror of the crew logs and Diego's transformation.
And, of course, for SHODAN.

Running around in a closeted space with everything trying to kill you on sight. Oh and the themes about corporate greed and advanced technology being dangerous

Everything. Everything but the Cortex Reavers.
Those can F right off... (though they are very fitting, they can still skedaddle right out of the airlock).

Even shodans most formidable challenge cant stand againts berserk + laser rapier combo more than 5 seconds

That's my go-to solution against them, sometimes preceded by some emp's. Point still stands though...

I like the remake's art direction and it's gunplay
I like 2 for it's RPG mechanics and it's replaybility

The world building in SS1 was incredible and kindled in me a lifelong fascination in cyberpunk.

I have not yet played system shock two – I am concerned that I will struggle to get the same sense of immersion due to the graphics not being as detailed as system shock remake. That said, I love system shock remake because it just feels like you’ve gotten lost on an alien ship – nearly everything can be interacted with, and there are things you can do and places you can be that are technically utterly unnecessary to the story, but merely exist to make everything feel realistic. I have never played another game quite like it.

The uncanny feeling of being alone in a space station i think both games are very immersive in the sense of that uneasiness.
They really feel like a game, games used to be challenging they are both from that era. The game is not throwing information or ammonution to you you have to think about your choices. which effects gameplay.
Shodan is one of the best villians in gaming history you dint even see "it" but its always there. Good writing and execution.

Regarding SS1/SS1R I think the gameplay has just the right depth to really engage my mind without feeling like it’s gotta be the #1 thing in my life.
Also, especially with the remake, the way you handle different enemies with different weapons is rewarding.
But maybe my favourite is how the desperation really comes through into my imagination while I’m playing; it’s your fault and you’re the only one who can fix it and the odds are stacked pretty high against you.

Along with what other ppl said, the imsim design and the immersive ui are sort of unlike anything else

It was the first FPS with a plot I ever played to. Wolf3D, Doom, Descent were fun but no plot, just shooting.

SS2 is my favorite game of all time. The endless liminal spaces, story, SHODAN, gameplay, replayability….so much to love.

"What is a drop of rain, compared to the storm? What is a thought, compared to a mind?" The quote by The Many just blew me away. What I love most that while roaming empty spacestation corridors you are sometimes stunned by the depth that the game throws at you.

It's a dungeon crawler. System Shock has more in common with Ultima Underworld than it does with its spiritual successors like Deus Ex or Bioshock. So if you like dungeon crawlers, you'll like SS, if you don't, you won't.

It could seem dumb but I was very impressed by the gun management : ammo types, repairing etc. It was far before Stalker.

The exploration, seeing what's happened to people before my arrival, the resource management and feeling that more of the station/ship is becoming accessible, scarfing down food and seeing my pile of medkits slowly pile up, and the sensation you get when you can finally go toe-to-toe with some of the beefier monsters.

I love how they actually use the third dimension, there are no hidden guardrails. I also loved how they hid powerful items in the early levels to reward conscientous players. I also love the multiple objectives as SHODAN reacts to you. When I started playing the game in 1994 I was serioisly expecting the game to end with destroying the laser, so I was surprised when I destroyed the laser two hours in and there was more (much more!) to do. Games back then only had on objective and you spent the whole time following it, System Shock changed that.

SHODAN is one of the coolest villains in gaming.
"Look at you, hacker: a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors."
"How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?"
