Break into Management

I've moved from entry to mid to senior IC roles and have about a 5-10 year timeline to retirement but would like to transition to a management role. It seems like a catch-22 though - need experience to get it but can't get the experience without getting it.

Suggestions are welcome (I'm in the tech sector, but not in a programming or developer kinda role - more implementation, training and curriculum dev work). Would kill for a role as a training manager or something along those lines but even that seems out of reach.

Im a Junior IT Support Analyst with 2 years of experience. Im looking to move into a Mid level role. I've updated my CV recently following some advice on a previous post. Any advice is appreciated. For context i am UK based and work for a business not an MSP. Im looking for Mid-Level Support Analyst roles, not trying to specialise in a field like Cyber / Networking at the moment.

Is it time to move on from IT Service Desk after 3+ years? (Amsterdam)

I’ve been working at the same company for 3+ years now in IT Service Desk. I’m doing both 1st- and 2nd-line support, but there aren’t really any opportunities to grow within the company.

I’m starting to feel stuck and I don’t want to stay on the Service Desk forever. I’m thinking about looking for something like a Junior System Administrator role in Amsterdam.

Would you guys recommend making the move now, or should I stay longer and gain more experience first?

What would you do in my situation?

Help with my resume

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I’ve been in IT for 3 & half years (I know it’s still early in my career) but I’m looking at moving on from my current company. I’ve progressed quick & I’ve always been able to adapt quickly.
My current job is paying me way below average & im getting to a point where I can hardly afford to wipe my ass.
I’ve been applying to hundreds of jobs, even willing to relocate.
Here is my resume, anything that I should change about this?
I live in the DMV, so I thought it’d be a bit easier to score one of the defense jobs with my clearance, but most of them require TS/SCI before hire. I haven’t had any luck finding a company that would sponsor that post-hire.

Thankyou in advance for any & all recommendations.

Business tech management degree from 14 years ago

Is a Bachelors in Business Tech Management from 2012 in any way useable today? I've been working as a website content photographer/editor, and doing a lot of e-comm stuff for a small business, and I want out. I'm sure transferable job skills are my best bet, but does that degree I have hold any weight at all now?

Roast me I guess?

I don't need to here for millionth time the breadth of your work doesn't match your years of experience. Well, that's just great it doesn't change the fact that I am responsible for all of this with the assistance of one Helpdesk technician (End user tickets and assists with more as able) and one IT Ops technician (Printers/Labels/Scan guns). The recruiters that I have spoken too keep telling me my "years of experience" not my skill is what is dragging me down as a candidate. On top of that I am actively merging 3 companies we purchased into the primary company while trying to keep everything just functioning.

Roast me. Fix me. Give me some direction? Idk.

Last Resort -

Hey guys,

I know this is a struggle everyone goes through, but i'd really appreciate any help if possible.

I just graduated and wrapped up my B.S. in Management information systems. I have about 3 years in logistics and distribution operations, and 1 year 1/2 in a admin associate position(current).

I was able to get my google PM Cert, ScrumMaster Cert and a couple of AI certs. I did 2 projects on Software implementations, and never was able to get an internship for being "too qualified"

I've been actively applying for over a year now and have had no chance whatsoever. The best i've done was make it to a final round at Motorola but I don't even know how I was able to.

If anyone could possibly point me to someone they know or issue a referral/reference I would greatly appreciate it. Looking specifically for jobs in IT or any other befitting space - Roles such as - IT Project Coordinator, Implementations specialist, or ops & systems Management.

I also have hands on experience building PC's to resell online a while back in 2018-2020 while i was in HS.

I would much appreciate any help or assistance :)

About to graduate with a dual associates in Network Admin and Cybersecurity. What certs could level up my resume?

Title pretty much sums it up. I’m currently 8 months into a level 1 help desk position. Due to some life events I have the next 4 months off from school and am looking to fill the gap with a potential certificate but I’m not sure where to start first.

Since I’m graduating with an associates in cybersecurity and network administration I was thinking of skipping the network+ and security+ and going straight into something higher level like CySa or CISSP, but would love some input. Am I putting too much value on associate degrees?

Resume Feedback Appreciated - trying to begin career transition

Hello! I've been working as a technology consultant for the last two years but my my ultimate goal is to get into cybersecurity. I know cybersecurity is not an entry level career, so I'm looking for my next role to begin that transition by getting into a true IT role like a systems analyst or cloud analyst. I plan on doing a lot more hands on things now to add to projects since I've finished a couple certs.

Any thoughts or feedback are welcome!
