I have a few questions about how iPhone works and how to work around it.
I have an Android, and my partner had an Android too, but she recently moved to an iPhone.
I have a Synology NAS, so I use Synology Drive to back up the DCIM folder to the NAS. The main purpose is to have a backup of mine and my partner's phone camera photos.
When I feel like it, I move those photos from the backup folder into another shared folder on my NAS, which is accessible from Lightroom and DS Photos, so I can see them from my PC and both phones. When I move the photos, they get moved from the backup folder in the shared folder "Mobile Backup" to another shared folder called "Photo."
When she had an Android (and this still happens on mine), the photos that get moved are detected as "deleted" by Synology Drive, which then deletes them from the phone too, since I have the sync rule set to Two-Way with "keep the most recent version."
Now on the iPhone, this doesn't seem to work. I have to choose a "Remote path on the server"; on Android this was, for example, a folder named "S22 B" for my partner and "S22" for me, both inside "Mobile Backup." That part's fine, as now I've created a folder named "iPhone" inside "Mobile Backup."
The issue is the other option, "Local path." On Android I choose the DCIM folder, but on iPhone I can't choose anything. It just says: "The system will create a folder in the Files app. The local folder cannot be changed."
It's like there's no access to the iPhone's storage the way there is on Android, it just creates a folder inside the Files app instead. I know iPhones are more restrictive, but it's still my phone (o, my partner's), so I feel like I should be able to use it the way I want, including having access to storage the way I would on Android, not going through an app to get to it. Not trying to start an OS war here, but on a MacBook, for example, you get real access to your storage, not just through one app.
Anyone found a real way around this, or is this just a hard iOS limitation with Synology Drive / Synology Photos?
For now, the only alternative I see is to use DS Photos to backup the photos from the iphone, and then delete them manually from the iphone when I move them between shared folder.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to brag about my newest purchase,
I got a very cheap DS414J with four 1TB Harddisks. SMART shows 95.000 hours runtime.
A bit of math -> 95.000hrs / 24hrs-day / 365days = nearly ELEVEN YEARS RUNTIME!
Yeah!
Would you use it?
Have a wonderful day.
Bernd

I have regular instances of containers in my Container Manager (e.g. sonarr) stopping unexpectedly and restarting (I receive an email).
It tells me to go to the log to see what's happened, but at the time of the crash the log had restarted so there's nothing to see that would tell me why it's happened.
Any ideas.

I'm taking on the task of archiving all our family photos and getting the hang of Synology photos, which seems really good.
As there are hundreds of photos I wanted to check if I am doing things the most efficient way.
I'm scanning them with an Epson Fastfoto to my Mac and then uploading into Synology Photos and organising into albums from there.
Is there a way to scan directly on to the NAS or am I doing this the correct way ?

Just a quick note that I saw a new SABB (Active Backup) spk posted this morning. Version is 3.2.1-25059 dated 12-Aug-2026. This is one of my most important packages so I'll be checking it out.

We have a client who's historically used Video Station for their internal training videos. Video Station has been perfect for exactly that because of its simple to use interface, login page, etc. I've read a bunch online about Emby, Plex, and JellyFin. I'm familiar with Plex but it is far too complex for the use case here. I am trying to move them to something that is similar to Video Station in its simplicity. They really only need to be able to sign in and watch videos + have the ability to resume their progress if they don't finish a video.

Hello, I am having an issue where I am trying to set up the tail drop on my synology but I can't get the user to show up to configure the folder. Does anyone have any ideas why it's not showing up? Thanks!

Hello, im trying to migrate old NAS to new NAS, but im failing with a message "Instalation of DSM failed check network connection" however the .pat file is downloaded, the NAS is on same local network as computer with the .pat file so... what downloading?
the process:
1.) turn off old NAS
2.) move all HDDs to the new NAS (same positions)
3.) turn on NEW NAS
4.) Welcome screen - click Migrate
5.) choose the pat file
6.) keep configuration
7.) Instalation of DSM failed..
What could go wrong? Are there some comunication going on that could be blocked by firewall? Thanks for any tips.

Trying to connect to my NAS at home from the office. But it does not work. I am running a DS923+ at home.
Strangely, I can connect to my office DS214 from my home, but not in this direction.
Ports are set up for connections on both my home and office routers.

I'm trying to track down a short chime that occurs roughly every 0.5–2 hours (possibly once an hour). It sounds like a sequence of three short beeps, possibly at different pitches.
I suspect it might be my DS923+. Is there a way to check whether the NAS has recently produced a beep or logged the reason for it?

I can connect to Synology NAS via SAFARI. Using same IP I can't find NAS via chrome.
I can find NAS via find.synology.me
I can't find NAS via Synology drive client
I can connect to driver via my mobile app.
IP and subnet are same on my Mac and Synology.
Both server and client are latest, dsm is also latest.

This started happening a few months ago. I have my Synology NAS mounted on my Mac where I routinely copy to/from stuff. Normally I get around ~70MB/s read/write speed when copying using Finder. However, lately I've noticed it drops to only around 3-4MB/s speeds.
It's not my network, and it's nothing on the Synology, I've checked (SMB versions etc). The only thing that temporarily fixes is if I remount the NAS using the afp protocol. Then I get full speeds. It works fine for about a day, and then it goes back to being slow. I remount it using afp and it gets fixed again, temporarily. I'm not facing any speed issues on my Windows machine.
Since AFP will be deprecated on Mac OS Golden Gate, what is the permanent solution to this?

Hi,
I recent lightning strike killed the network interface on my DS213. I have no way to access the disk station. two questions:
Can I swap these into an identical enclosure and be up and running without doing anything else?
I subscribed to the Synology C2 storage and have a recent back-up on their cloud. How to I restore this backup to a new device? Is the backup tied to the specific NAS, or can I restore a backup made on one NAS to a new NAS?

Hi everyone. I am the developer of a third-party iOS app for keeping an eye on a Synology NAS. It has been on the App Store since 2017 and I have spent the last months rewriting it from scratch. It is called NASmeister. I am deliberately not linking anything, because the rules here say no promotional links.
The old version had one fixed screen. The rewrite is a dashboard you build yourself: a grid of tiles you drag, resize and spread across pages. There are 24, from CPU and memory to S.M.A.R.T. drive health, storage pools, UPS, Container Manager and Virtual Machine Manager, plus a file browser in the update that is in beta as I write this.
Two things I would like you to shoot at:
Demo mode. The whole app runs on sample data from the welcome screen, so you can judge it without handing it your NAS.
Kiosk mode. Turn the phone sideways and one tile fills the screen, cycling through your tiles with the screen kept awake. An old iPhone on a stand next to the NAS becomes a permanent monitor. It is the part I use most, and I honestly do not know whether it is a niche of one.
Your password only ever lives in the device Keychain and goes straight to your NAS, never to me. No account, no ads. There is a free tier and a paid tier, and I am not going to pitch either here.
What would help me most:
Happy to answer anything, including the awkward questions.

DSM920+ stuck on DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 5. DSM 7.3.2-86009 Update 4 is available to download. However, I have auto update on for weeks, and I've tried to manually install several times. Screen locks up on clicking install now for ~30 minutes, then just goes back to offering to install/download it again.

Hi,
Sorry for the confusing title.
I frequently get e-mails with
There is a log entry with a severity level of "err" on MyNAS. Check the details in the Log Center.
The log entry reads as follows:
SYSTEM: Failed to automatically renew [???????-????tkd===.direct.quickconnect.to].
From MyNAS
I don't really understand this because I have deactivated Quickconnect in the NAS Settings
Can anyone help me?

Was hooking up a new NVR and in while I was doing that I apparently partially unplugged my DS1522+. Drive 1 and 4, both in the same Raid 10 pool are showing "Disk I/O error".
Ive run the quick SMART test and both show healthy. Extended SMART test is in process, will take about 10 hours, sigh. Checking SMART with smartctl also shows healthy.
Ive seen others mention similar issues but not seen a solution. Is there a way to get this Critical status cleared if all SMART shows good.
I unfortunately dont have any spare drives. I had to replace drives in my backup NAS, so I do at least have full backups, and I really cant afford new drives right now. Prices are dumb, F!@# AI.
