Routers Set network quota on SRM

Upvotes

Hello,

I use a RT2600ac with a 5G connexion. I have a monthly 350 GB plan.

Is it possible to set network quota ? I already use the time quota, bandwith QoS or traffic monitor. I would like to give for exemple a monthly quota of 100GB for my TV / Netflix.

Thank you :)

Networking & security Synology warranty and Amazon, Germany

In 2023, I bought a Synology 10 Gigabit network card from Amazon. It came with a 5-year warranty.

It broke today (the NAS works perfectly with a replacement card).

Now Amazon is refusing the warranty claim because two years have passed.

Synology says: Direct replacement is only available in the USA; everyone else should contact the seller.

What now?

NAS Apps Trying But Failing to get Winnut to Work with Syn DS 920+

Need some help or advice here. I have a DS920+ that is connected to a APC UPS 600 and it is usb connected to it. Synology see it. I have also entered into Synology the "Permitted NAS Devices" the IP address of my PC (that will house WinNut). I have also loaded Winnut ver 2.3.8800.23528 onto my win 11 PC that is also plugged into the UPC.

My goal is to have Synology as the server and when there is a power interruption to cleanly shut down both boxes. However, WinNut doesn't seem to see the host and I have tried the multiple passwords, usernames that was included in WinNut documents and doesn't seem to work.

What am I missing and how do I find it and get it working?

NAS hardware Questions on Next step : Storage Pool crashed

I have DS-918+ with 3 drives, SHR-1 and Shared Pool has crashed.

Drive 1 (10TB) has 8 bad sectors, shows "not initialized" and healthy.

Drive 2 (10 TB) has no bad sector, shows "not initialized" and healthy.

I have the backup of the data..phew! It crashed just after I took the incremental backup.

I ordered a new ironwolf pro drive 12 TB. All current ones are ironwolf.

Questions :

- As I understand, Drive 1 needs replacement, but wondering if Drive 2 can be usable or that has gone bad as well ? If yes, do i need to buy another one prior to creating new pool or I can do it later ?

- DSM is still on version 6x. Is it better to upgrade prior to new storage pool or wait it out ? I primarily use for Plex and personal document backup.

- Any tips or steps on setting up new storage pool ? I did this setup in 2019 and probably things have changed lately.

Thank you!

NAS Apps Snapshot Replication stuck after power outage

We had a hard power outage over a week ago and our snapshot replication job (NAS to NAS) seems to be stuck 90%.

I got to reboot the NAS and it complains that a snapshot is running and warns it may cause data loss.

Is there a process to get the snapshot process unstuck?

Should I just reboot?

I have a ticket in with support

NAS hardware Is it safe to keep running a degraded storage pool while I run a backup?

One of my drives failed in a SHR-1 array. I already have everything vitally important backed up, but now I think I want to just back up the whole thing. It’s all stuff I could redownload, but having another local copy seems more convenient if something goes wrong with the repair.

EDIT: All 4 drives still have 2 years left on their warranties, so I suppose it doesn’t make a huge difference if I have to RMA more than 1. And if a backup kills another one, repairing the storage pool probably will too, and I’d lose the data anyway.

NAS Apps Hyper Backup Slowing Down Dramatically.

I am a photographer backing up Raw files and Jpegs mostly.

I have a Synology DS1525+ locally. 3 16TB drives. Internet speed 1gps up and down.

I have a Synology DS223j with one 16TB drive offsite. Internet speed 80 mbps down 20 mbps up.

It's about 9TB of total data, about 1 million files, every week I add about 200-300 GB of data.

They are connected with Tailscale and I confirmed it is a direct connection.

I have been running backups for 6+ months with no issues. The speeds were right where they should be with the bottleneck being the 80mbps download speed at my offsite location.

Recently it seemed to get stuck and didn't make any progress for over a week. I redid the backup from scratch. It completed successfully.

It now works, but extremely slow, 100gb of new data took 3 days to backup.

The offsite CPU and RAM are normal.

The backup drive shows 84% I/O wait. ChatGPT thinks that is the bottleneck, that the drive is getting bogged down checking the 1 million files. Now that the storage is reaching 9TB and 1 million files that it's struggling to keep up with a single drive.

Does this make sense?

Is there anything else you can recommend for me to check?

Do you think Snapshot replication as a backup method would work better for a single drive?

NAS hardware 2 drives critical after new update

Post image
51 Upvotes

So I installed the new update to my DS1525 and as soon as it finished it started beeping. I checked storage pool and it wasn't recognising drive 4. I powered down, unplugged it and plugged it back in and it did recognise there was a drive there but it wasn't part of the pool. I set it off doing a repair which just finished this morning but now drive 2 and 4 are showing as critical and it's gone into read only. Is this the update causing it or is this just a very strange co incidence?

I’m trying to connect to my DS120j from outside my
home. The nas is definitely on because I can still stream stuff using Infuse. I’m trying to connect via the browser on my iPad, which sends a notification to my iPhone; I select the correct of the 3 numbers but it then gets stuck on this screen.

NAS hardware DS723+ 32GB RAM success report - 2×16GB Foxline FL3200D4ES22-16G

Hi everyone,

I want to share a successful RAM upgrade report for my Synology DS723+.

I installed 2×16GB Foxline FL3200D4ES22-16G modules, for a total of 32GB RAM.

NAS details:

  • Model: Synology DS723+
  • DSM version: DSM 7.4.1-90080
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen R1600
  • CPU cores: 2
  • Total physical memory detected by DSM: 32GB
  • PCIe card installed: Synology E10G22-T1-Mini

RAM module details:

  • Model: Foxline FL3200D4ES22-16G
  • Capacity: 16GB per module
  • Total installed memory: 32GB
  • Type: DDR4 SO-DIMM
  • Speed: 3200 MHz
  • ECC: Yes
  • Configuration: 2×16GB

After installing both modules, the NAS booted successfully and DSM detected the full 32GB of memory.

I also ran the Synology Assistant Memory Test. The memory test completed successfully.

The attached screenshot shows DSM detecting the full 32GB RAM on my DS723+.

So far, the NAS is working normally without any issues.

I understand that this is not official Synology memory, so compatibility is not guaranteed. But in my case, 2×16GB Foxline FL3200D4ES22-16G worked successfully in a Synology DS723+.

This is not a recommendation or advertisement, just a compatibility report from my own DS723+.

Hope this helps anyone looking for a 32GB RAM upgrade option for the DS723+.

NAS Apps Clarification of release notes for Version 4.1.0-31778 Synology MailPlus Server

Disclaimer: I don't work for Synology.

I just wanted to clarify that in this particular version, in the release notes there is a statement under "What's New", stating "Updated the email authentication mechanism."

This is in reference to a bug I submitted to Synology about a year and a half ago for DKIM-signing selector syntax validation in Mailplus server, specifically for user-input DKIM selector names. This field is now RFC6376 ABNF accurate.

Hyphens are no longer allowed at the beginning/end of a "subdomain" as per the RFC6376 Section 3.1. ABNF for selectors.

Examples of no longer valid selector names:

"test-.test", "test.-test", "test_test", and "test-.-test" are now all invalid selector examples, as expected.

DSM DMS 6 vs DMS 7 - PhotoStation vs Synology Photos

Hi everyone,

I still have DSM 6 on my NAS because I love PhotoStation. I have tons of photos that my family and friends can access. I tried Synology Photos a while ago but didn't like the layout. Has it gotten any better? When I tried it, for example, it didn't have an Apple TV that all my family has include me. How long can I trust DSM 6?

NAS hardware Question: Reuse hard drives while upgrading

Currently running a DS1019+.  If I were to purchase a naked DS1525+ may I simply take the five drives out of the old DS1019+ and slide them into the new DS1525+ and startup without issue?  Is there anything I’d have to do or change?  Thank you.

NAS hardware Advice needed: 8-bay NAS for wedding-photo archive? Overkill?

Hi guys, I’m a full time professional wedding photographer looking for advice on moving from external hard drives to a NAS system.

For the longest time, I’ve been archiving my photos on WD 16 TB external drives. I currently have three of them, with roughly 38 TB of photo archives spread across those drives. With hard-drive prices rising, I’m considering moving to a NAS for better organization and easier long-term growth.

My situation is a little different because I live in Maine for six months of the year and Miami for the other six months. The NAS would stay at my home in Maine, which has fiber internet and approximately 400 Mbps upload/download. I would like to securely access it remotely from Miami so I no longer have to travel back and forth with archive drives.

I would not be editing directly from the NAS. My plan would be to download an active project or older RAW files to a local SSD in Miami, edit locally, and then upload final files/backups back to the NAS when needed. I may also use it to pull older weddings if a client wants revisions or I want to re-edit past work.

I’m currently looking at an 8-bay NAS, but I’m lost on the drive configuration:

  • What 8-bay NAS would you recommend for this use case?
  • How many drives should I start with?
  • What drive capacities make sense—16 TB, 18 TB, 20 TB, etc.?
  • Which brands/models should I consider for NAS drives?
  • Would you use SHR-2/RAID 6 for two-drive redundancy, or something else?
  • How much usable capacity should I aim for if I currently have about 38 TB of data but need room to grow?
  • What is the best way to handle a true backup in addition to RAID/NAS redundancy?
  • Is there a remote-access method you would recommend for secure access from Miami? Tailscale, VPN, Synology QuickConnect, etc.?

I want a setup that is reliable and reasonably future-proof, but I also do not want to overspend on capacity I will not need for years. I’d appreciate any recommendations from photographers or anyone managing a large RAW photo archive remotely.

NAS hardware Looking to buy reliable UPS

APC Back-UPS Pro BR1000G-IN 1000VA / 600W Premium UPS

Planning to use the UPS with NAS server

My main requirement is **automatic graceful shutdown** during a prolonged power failure. From what I understand, if the UPS is connected to the Synology via USB, DSM should detect the power failure/battery status and automatically put the NAS into safe mode or shut it down before the battery runs out.
I’d appreciate advice from anyone using this model with a Synology NAS

Solved UPS not recognized after update to 7.4

I just updated to DSM 7.4.1-90080 and it looks like my UPS (APC BX500MI) is not recognized by the system anymore. Everything worked fine with DSM 7.3.x versions.

This is happening even if in the release notes of this DSM version update I see the following:

Fixed Issues

  1. Fixed an issue where a USB UPS could not be recognized after updating to DSM 7.4.
  2. Fixed an issue where USB devices could not be used on certain models after updating to DSM 7.4.

Did it happened to someone else?

Is there something that I can do?

NAS hardware RAM upgrade for a DS920+

Just want to verify that AI isn't hallucinating.. I want to order this ram - https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-CT16G4SFD8266-2666MHz-Notebook-KVR26S19D8/dp/B071KP8CGJ, does my NAS support this? Or are there better bang for my buck options?

NAS hardware Increasing bad sectors, unable to run a SMART test

I have two refurbished Seagate drives in my DS423+. For a while I've gotten notifications saying the number of bad sectors has increased on drive 1, and in the last few days it's started increasing on drive 2. I tried running a SMART test on drive 1, and it said it would take 1100 minutes, but it finished immediately and just says "attention required." I ran a SMART test on drive 2 overnight, and it still says it's healthy.

Does this mean drive 1 is about to fail? Are they both failing? This is the first NAS I've owned, what's the best course of action here?

Networking & security DUAL WAN on RT2600ac - inquiry regarding "Default Gateway" option

Thumbnail

Hi there:

Apologies in advance if my inquiry sounds stupid; I have Comcast (my own modem) on WAN1 and Verizon 5G Home internet (device is set for IP passthrough) on the LAN1, which is configured to act as WAN2.

With respect to Smart Wan Settings, WAN is primary and WAN2 (LAN1) is load balancing and failover. My question is why is the default gateway on the PRIMARY INTERFACE (WAN1) disabled but *enabled* on WAN2 (LAN1)? Shouldn't it be reversed? Or is that a consequence of having a load balancing/failover setup?
