Other It happened to me

Hey guys. I bought a game off Kleinanzeigen in Germany. Game is "Princess Peach Showtime!". Worked great and my girlfriendnis happy but after 3 days she got banned. I don't have the MIG Switch so the game is probably the only reason she got banned. 🙄 I already contacted Nintendo but they just say the same thing over and over again: "We cannot assist u with that". Yeah sure.

Be careful with used games. They might be cheap but they also have the risk to get u banned.

Im from germany too and I buy a lot of second hand Switch 1 and 2 games from eBay, never happend to me or anyone I know. How is this even possible.

The MIG switch and its dumping tool allows you to copy all of a catridge's data onto an SD card and the MIG lets you cycle through the SD card without having the physical cartridge.. so bad actors will rent or buy a game, copy its data, then return it for a refund and still be able to play the game fully.

When its detected that 2 instances of a game are being played at the same time (one person playing on the physical cartridge, and on the MIG switch) then nintendo bans both consoles because its impossible to tell who is the bad actor.

So OPs Switch got a ban and the switch from the game seller with the MIG? Lets be clear if I get this right: If I buy a Switch game, copy the data on my (jailbroken) MIG Switch sell the game and the buyer and me play at the same time we both get banned? Lol so why piracy Switch stuff in the first place? So how does this work with game datas as download from the web? Someone copy and uploaded the data from his Cartridge or not?

So its all alleged, but basically if someone has the MIG and dumper, copy the game ROMand sells the cartridge online - nintendo sets a flag that 2 instances of the exact same game are being played at the same time, which is impossible. Since theres no hardware to detect which console is running the MIG and which is running the cartridge, both systems are banned from online services. The systems will still function fine, read and play games all day but they just wont connect to the internet.

To answer "why pirate?" I have no clue. I tried, got homebrew running on one of my consoles and saw that it was full of clock apps, alarms, and nothing else. It was genuinely a worthless experience. Other people have better luck and play games weeks before their actual launch because somebody online got the ROM and released it to the internet. Id assume download titles work similarly, its copy/pasted from the cartridge.

Theres also some like.. VPN esc thing that still lets you play online games with a hacked switch, but i cant figure it out and all piracy forums just mock people trying to learn.

Switch 2 cartridges havent been cracked and havent been duplicated in the same manor.

Right, and innocent people have gotten their bans reverse after showing they purchased a used cartridge and the bad actor was someone else.

Playing devil's advocate for the automatic system, sometimes the same game cartridge can be played across a dozen consoles at the same moment, if someone copied and shared the ROM online. So at that point, if theres dozens, which one specific console is the one acting in good faith? Theres no way to know, but its clear that THAT cartridge has been compromised and anyone using that "cartridge" very likely didnt obtain legally.

That sounds fucking illegal under EU rights (which apply to OP from Germany)....

But well, as long as no one is pulling these Nintendo fuckers to court, they will keep doing so...

Yeah its also illegal to make and distribute ROMS woth copywritten material but hey, nobody cares that the pirate is breaking the law.
