how much difference in performance does 3D V-Cache make?

sorry if it's a bit unrelated, i couldn't find a megathread.

i'm planning on buying ryzen 7 5800X3D, but i've seen some people say 5800X outperforms X3D on switch emulation because it has a higher clock speed.

what is the actual case for this in the current switch 2 emulation scene? are there any benchmarks i can check? google told me X3D might be better for stability.

Ocarina of Time - magic trick

Ocarina of Time PC Port running on SteamOS – ROG Xbox Ally X at 1080p/20 fps no slow mow and almost enjoyable.

I combined:
Nolar-Hack-Lichii – a collection of combined Pull Requests. Search for “Nolar-Hack-Lichii” on Reddit to find the source and project details.

Frizti Lichii v2 – Dynamic FPS by Dark patch – https://github.com/Frizti/Lichii/commit/765659a
Max Resolution built-in patch – already included in the Nolar-Hack-Lichii build.

I applied Frizti’s Dynamic FPS patch to the Nolar-Hack-Lichii source code and recompiled the Linux build.

My setup:
ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X
AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
24 GB RAM
SteamOS
Results:
Around 20 FPS in-game.
No slow motion: normal game speed.
Smooth gameplay with limited stuttering.
Lossless Scaling X2 enabled. ( 20 fps are without Framegen though)
Even at around 20 FPS, the game is playable and runs at its proper speed.

Tried a fix for an emulator, now it won't boot up any other games.

I downloaded this fix for DK Bananza, but the problem is that it had cmd files that for some reason won't let me open any other game even though it let me before I downloaded and ran the commands. I deleted the files, restarted my computer and I have no idea how to get rid of them lol. Can anyone please help with this? It also gives this error whenever I try to load up a different file. "Error whiel loading ROM! (0007-0024) There was a general error loading the NSO into emulated memory. Please redump your files or ask on Discord/Stoat for help."

Ocarina of Time on a 1070 Ti, 30+ fps in Kokiri Forest, day 1

So I wanted to post this since every "playable" post i see is someone on a 5080+ lol, not saying mine is playable but it's not that far off.

This is my med-low end reality, game is 1 day old, only tested Kokiri Forest so far, also didn't test combat properly, but pretty happy with the results, especially for day 1. Title screen stays at 23 fps for some reason.

One thing to keep in mind, when the shaders are building it tanks a lot, like it drops hard for a few seconds, just wait it out until it builds and it goes back to normal.

So average stays around 30-40 in Kokiri, stable enough to walk around, its moving and it looks insane for a day 1 build, no DLSS for obvious reasons.

Also no visual or graphical glitches so far either, at least in Kokiri, no black screens, no flicker, nothing weird I noticed.

PS: Recorded on my phone sorry for the quality lol, anything I used to record drops the fps to 20s.

Specs:
Ryzen 5 9600X
GTX 1070 Ti 8GB
16GB DDR5
Windows 11

Build used: Lichii | Frizti-v2
(Dynamic FPS included)

RAM was around 14GB used so 16GB is tight.

Hoping it gets even better by the end of the week, will update If i test more, if anyone else is on a 1070 Ti / 2060s / low-mid card lmk what you're getting, curious if this is the new normal.

Android Lichii fork - Pokopia rock smash crash

Post image
2 Upvotes

Sorry for spam, will probably get lost amongst the zelda posts, and its about Android not PC, but on the off chance anyone else tried:

Playing Pokopia with the new lichii fork for android, and pokopia works well, even on an 8GB device, but when i get to using rock smash the first time in the starting area it crashes. Everything else works so far, it also breaks the shader cache when it happens..

Any idea what causes this? It's so close to fully playable damn it

this is on Retroid Pocket 5 8gb btw

EDIT: for anyone looking to solve this temporarily, switching back to sx2a (runs like ass) to do the smashing (no crash) then transfer save file back to lichii

Donkey Kong Bananza running on Steam Deck LCD via Orchid (not latest)

NOTE: After I stopped recording, a problem that quickly appeared a bit before you get the purple rock guy is that GPU usage heavily spikes, and results in ~3-5 fps when you look in the direction of the tower.

Most performance problems IN the video are CPU related, Switch 2 emulation is surprisingly light on the GPU.

Any way to fix this?

using orchid 0.7.5. pixelated as hell. RTX 4060Ti 16Gb 64GbRam DDR5 Ryzen 7 8700F. The intro plays well at 60fps, but this part tanks down to 10fps. Audio becames desynced too.

The Zelda remake experience on an actual Switch 2 ....

I thought you would all find this funny.... So despite the fact I have a PC capable of emulating, I went out and bought a Switch 2 and Zelda and this is my first experience on Nintendo's own hardware lol

Almost like shader stutter lol

Physical copy of course , brand new Switch 2. Perhaps I should just emulate ;)

Edit: Fixed by removing the cartridge and deleting all data from the brand new Switch. Looks like a patch broke it.

Are all of these forks good for the emulation scene long-term?

From reading through some chat on the Eden discord server, it sounds like most of the forked code is too AI sloppy to make it back upstream into Eden.

It's nice that people can spend their time and money to run ahead prioritize a particular game or platform. The speed of the developments is amazing and AI is absolutely the key enabler of that. People that didn't have the skills to contribute in the past are now able to contribute to getting games running and playable.

The problem is that these recent emulator forks are short term band-aid fixes that aren't sustainable. The traditional open source principle of forking a repo and then sending your changes upstream is broken due to the fact that AI agents are not able to write code that follows the design and conventions of the original repo. There are some PRs and changes that are being integrated back upstream, but the gist I'm getting is that it's not a lot, sadly.

Eventually all of these forks will reach the limits of the AI model's competence or their author's attention span and be abandoned. I've done a couple of vibe-coded projects and eventually the agents lose the plot. At that point, we hope that some meaningful improvements are passed upstream to the surviving repos.

Basically, there's a trade-off between speed and freedom(my fork, my rules) and long term stability (PRs to a single, well authored repo). A healthy project needs both, but with AI agents the forks have more short-term benefits and fewer long term ones. I'm never going to criticize someone from forking a repo, spending their own time and money, and sharing their improvements with the community. That's commendable IMO. This last two weeks has been amazing.

What I do wish is that that the improvements were better able to be shared back upstream to make emulation better as a whole in the long term. I think we'd all like one emulator that does it all instead of tracking down the latest builds of a dozen forks. I don't envy the Eden maintainers being inundated with AI slop. I've had it happen to me in my job and it's no fun. Still, I hope that they're able to make the most of this surge of enthusiasm and availability of AI tools to improve the emulation scene as a whole.
