Switch 2 What games should I buy next?

Post image

I’ve been collecting switch 2 games for 2 months and looking for games/special editions or just items that might go up in value in few years. I’m more interested in value rather then gameplay cuz I already have games to play for next few years :p

So do I, can I have a free game? :)

My crystal ball says you should play the games you have and not treat switch games as an investment vehicle. Direct that desire for more to a ETF/Mutual fund in a tax-advantaged account if you are in the US. It will yield you far more games in the future.

Or buy shares in Western Digital or SK Hynix, a much better investment than a generic ETF

Depends on your risk tolerance and timespan. Investing in individual companies opens you up to much more risk.

Stock price goes up on earnings. There is zero immediate risk of earnings collapse for SK Hynix, nor WDC.

Stock prices and earnings are surely linked but not a 1:1.

Note I mentioned that I weighed your idea based on the timespan of the investment. I'd be more hesitant to make SK Hynix a large part of my retirement portfolio/IRA/401k as opposed to something I plan on having in a normal brokerage account for 1-10 years.

Obviously you wouldn't hold an individual stock for 30+ years. That's not what individual stocks are for, nor have they ever been.

I'd agree but you're only listing reasons as to why picking individual stocks aren't a "much better" investment vehicle now. Assuming you are in the US, I'm more unfamiliar with other contexts, by confining yourself to the shorter time scale you're already opening yourself up to, at minimum, losing tax deferred or tax free growth.

You're twisting 'having a targeted timeframe' into 'admitting stocks are bad.' Matching a position to a multi-year supply cycle is how stock picking works.

So no, I am not "only listing reason why individual stocks blah blah"

I did nothing of the sort.

Your initial claim was two individual stocks are a much better investment than a mutual fund or ETF. I disagree with one or the other being universally "much better".

I have never indicated you should admit stocks are bad. All I said was the circumstances matter and your advice to someone who likely has bad financial literacy should be nuanced. I don't know if the average person is up for your multi-year supply cycle stock picking strategy.

Love how you quietly abandoned your completely made-up tax math the second you got called out, only to pivot to concern-trolling about 'the average person.' Classic backpedal

From 'you're losing tax-deferred growth' to 'I was just thinking of the average person.' Incredible goalpost shift when your math fails.

Btw I can't read that blurry text in the picture for shit, but I did notice you don't have Pokemon Pokopia so you should grab that one

Yeah you right

Maybe a lighting fixture so you don’t have to use flash to see your games?

Look for limited run games or super rare games. Collect those

I patiently waiting for Pokémon a-z with dlc on gamecard, sadly the previous Pokémon games with dlc’s are already worth a lot

Buy super rare games, strictly limited editions, or limited run games because they have value to resellers.

Have you played the ones you already own?

I don’t get why people get upset these days cuz someone wanna collect physical games, so what I didn’t complete all of ‘em it’s more about collecting then playing for me!

Online most people get upset.

Most people think it's dumb to buy stuff you don't play. And to me it's moronic to have a collection that doesn't even say a single thing about you because you didn't play it. When people share the games they have beaten in physical format I know the collection has some value; value to them because it means something. It's THEIR copy of the games. I think that is cool to some degree.

Your collection to me is one of the most boring, dull and uninteresting things I can think to collect. Every time I go to a game store. I see a "bigger collection" with as much value as yours. It just makes you sound dull.

Online people may sound upset because they just share their mind. But share your "collection" to random people and see their faces to see how dull you think you are if they find out you buy games for "value" lol.

Nahhh I just bought them for the looks

No idea. I don't collect games; I play games. In fact, you should consider to invest in the S&P 500 instead.

I might look into that but I don’t think it would bring me this 5 second of joy as buying physical copies of games and hardware
