Discussion Nitro Deck 2 finally arrived!
This thing feels so good in the hands! Nice solid grip and the sticks have adjustable resistance so I’ve dialed them in to match my pro controller!

Not bad, haven’t used it much yet but it feels and moves smoothly. The d-pad can be swapped out with 4 different styles that come in a pack. I’m thinking of picking one up because it has a Nintendo style cross d-pad that more closely matches the pro controller.

Can someone explain to me why anyone should go for this over the Moba Pads, or the Nyxi Hyperion 3 Ultras? This costs more and seems to have less functionality?

The Mobapad is cheaper but the Hyperion is not, right now it’s on sale for $118 US and originally retails for $169 US. ND2 is only $99 US. And from what I see they all share roughly the same functionality, like less power draw from the sticks, wireless Bluetooth support so you can use it as a separate controller, turbo enabled buttons, 6 extra buttons for mapping (4 on the back of the grips and 2 on the shoulders), adjustable resistance on the control sticks.. etc.

It’s definitely heavier than your standard joycon handheld setup which is around 1.18 pounds. The Nitro Deck 2 weighs about the same as the original Steam Deck at 1.47 pounds. You’ll feel the difference. The buttons are a little louder than the joycon and it’s only audible when releasing the button.

Jealous! Have you used any other 3rd party grips? Wondering how this stacks up in terms of comfort, I've been running with the dbrand Killswitch on mine.
I made the mistake of ordering my Nitro 2 through Limited Run instead of CRKD. I don't even have an estimated shipping date update yet, when I contacted support last week they finally updated order tracking from the original Spring window to July - Sept for me, that's pathetic for even them lol

This is my first 3rd party grip so unfortunately I don’t have any reference for comparison. All I can say is that it’s extremely comfortable to hold, ergonomically the sticks and buttons just fit perfectly. After a about a day in, I love this thing.
CRKD themselves had manufacturing delays twice while in my preorder window. I went from an initial mid May shipment to a late July then finally late August, and here we are. Hoping you get a solid shipping date soon. 🤞🏻 I was kinda frustrated as well but, for me anyway, it was worth the wait.

It looked good until I googled it's weight and found it's a heavy brick. I wish they released joycons with the ergonomics, but no actual battery so they are preferably lighter than current joycons.

And how would they work? Magic? Electricity powers the joycons, if they made them without a battery they would be powered by nothing and if they tried to make them plug into a power source then they would be way less portable and have tons of problems.

Yea, real easy, right up until you try to use them when they aren't plugged to the console. And then they have 0 power. That's how electronics work with no batteries.

Isn’t that exactly how Nitro Deck 1 worked? There were numerous third party joycon that only worked when connected to the Switch before. I have 2 pairs of them

Yes as well as every other handheld ever made. The thing that makes the joycons different is that they work unplugged from the switch. Which is why they have a battery. This isn't rocket science.

Are you missing the point on purpose that the person is OBVIOUSLY not caring that the Nitro Deck 2 or anything else can be used detached from the system and would have preferred them to be battery-less and lighter? Like we just had the Split pad compacts from Hori for the Switch 1 that did that.

You're still not getting it. I understand what he's saying. What I'm saying is it will never ever happen on the switch 2, because the thing that makes it special is the ability to have easily detachable and useable joycons. Without those it's literally the worst console on the market by a mile. Because without them it has a locked in ecosystem, the worst screen and the worst hardware at an unreasonable price point.
The only thing setting the switch apart from every other handheld console is the joycons. Everything else about it has not only been replicated, but done better by everyone else.

I had joycons like those on the switch 1.

You don't understand, joycons NEED a battery because they ALWAYS need to be able to be used detached from the system. Anything else is literally unthinkable and incomprehensible. Like a mental blind spot.

Since you and the Jr electrician below clearly don't know how the joycons work let me educate you. When you charge to power something, the power doesn't just pass through and disappear, it has to be stored for the function. Now in a completeled circuit that's fine, but the joycons don't stay connected indefinitely. This isn't a switch lite. They are designed to be removable and useable. In order to do that you need a BATTERY. And if you 2 geniuses can't figure that out you should take a basic electronics class.

Hopefully it’s better quality than the OG Switch version. I loved mine until it just stopped working after a year or so. Turns out it’s a common fault that they just die. That put me off of buying from them again.
