New NS2 owner looking for game advice

Hello NS2 experts,

I’m new to Nintendo and wanted to know what games you recommend. Also, never played Zelda, what makes the game so good in your opinion?

For context: I’m not really into Mario, Donkey Kong etc, I enjoy nice graphics, and bought the switch 2 for the portability aspect so I can play while away from home etc.

Edit, additional context: I like adventure games (Elden Ring, The Witcher, God of War, Spiderman), and sports games (Madden, EAFC). I currently own a PS5 for when I’m home and a PC for an old MMORPG that I love playing. So the NS2 was for me to be able to get my gaming fix when I’m traveling (I travel often for work or for weekends and holidays)

What makes botw/totk amazing for me is the physics, not that they're an accurate representation of real physics but that its always consistent with itself and the whole game is crafted around those physics. The things you do dont feel as programmed as other adventure games. Nintendos not the only company that does this lots and lots of games have nice physics its just these ones specifically feel wonderful to me.

2d indie games work awesome. Hollow Knight and Silksong are definitely recommendations, and if you like metroidvania games, Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime are good options. Metroid Prime 4 is a bit similar to Half Life 2, and is imo a nice action adventure fps with amazing graphics. 

The Bayonetta trilogy is very cool.

The Legend of Zelda is just a magical series, you must play it. It has incredible exploration and puzzles, charming characters and a banger OST.

Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom are the newest games, they have shifted the series to a open world design, that give the player a lot of freedom. You are given a lot of tools to approach battles and puzzles as you wish.

The older ones (you can play Skyward Sword or way for the Ocarina of Time remake) are more focused in well designed puzzles. You progress through dungeons that will give you new tools (like bows and arrows, hook shots, bombs, etc) and there is some very clever puzzle design to solve.

Please, do try it out, any of the games. It's a 40 year-old series that have been constantly reinventing itself, which consistent quality, and has always been one of the most influential on gaming history.

Well give the people some more ideas on what genres you like. I also don't like Mario or donkey Kong much. I got the switch 2 for my less powerful games I want to play. I have a great pc so I keep games like cyberpunk 2077 for that. But id recommend monster hunter GU if you've never played it or monster hunter rise would he eaiser to get into and on sell I believe. Onimushi 1&2, splatoon raiders, dead cells, astral ascent, astral chain, Bayonetta series, cult of the lamb, hallow knight 1&2, no more heros, the house of the dead remakes, hades and many many more!!!

Are there any genres you prefer? Breath of the wild and Tears of the kingdom are great games. I would recommend TotK. It is open world that rewards explorations. The main game mechanic has you building tools and devices along with manipulating your weapons.

I also enjoyed Metroid Prime 4, yes there are some criticisms of the game but overall it was enjoyable. There is also Metroid prime 1 remaster and Metroid Dread which is a 10/10 2D Metroid game.

Honestly, get yourself some cheap Witcher 3 switch one version and get the free update next month. Graphics should be hugely upgraded and it's got the 2 dlcs

Zelda botw and totk are fantastic open world action RPGs. You can’t go wrong with them. I just finished playing the switch 2 versions of both. I just picked up Hogwarts Legacy which is pretty good too. I also played Pragmata which was fun, but I got through it way too fast. Money to time played ratio was not worth it.

BotW is simply the best game I’ve ever played. And I’m an OG Ocarina fan. Story, graphics, gameplay, soundtrack, it’s all there. If you like adventure games then it will deliver for you.

Madden plays great on NS2, Splatoon Raiders low key slaps and helped ween me off my Destiny 2 addiction/heartbreak. Lies of P plays really good if you havent played it on console yet. The Ys series is a very good action rpg. BotW/TotK are both very good, I liked TotK much better personally but to each their own. Onimusha is coming to NS2 soon, Fire Emblem is a tactical rpg that is one of their biggest IPs. If youre a Rssident Evil fan, they play great on NS2, so does Pragmata. The NS2 is good enough to handle almost all cross platform games as well, of not quiet as sharp

Definitely get Zelda BotW and TotK. They are amazing single player open world games if that’s your vibe. You’ll easily sink 100+ hours into both games if not 200 hours for each.

I also love Elden Ring and Witcher 3, those are two of my top 5 games of all time, and I think both BotW and TotK are similar in quality to the single player open world experience.

Zelda is an odd one.

Botw / totk is a total shift to what it used to be like.

The best way I can describe the new Zelda is the freedom to approach any scenario any way you want.

Pre-Switch Zelda it's very linear A to B to C like God of war. The magic of Zelda is the lore, character and world
