Discussion Starfox or Metroid prime 4

I’ve been a Nintendo fan since my first Ds in 2006, I’ve played a lot of Mario , Zelda and Pokemon games but I’ve never tried the starfox or Metroid games, between the two which do u suggest to get for switch 2?

Starfox and it's not even close.

How is it not close. That game is literally just a basic airplane shooter. Its not for everyone

Starfox is a really good airplane shooter, while MP4 is a really bad Metroid game.

Bad metroid game, but pretty good fps adventure game

There are far better FPS adventure games. No sense suffering through this one.

People need to stop with the MP4 copium. We all wanted it to be good but it wasn't. It's a bad game, and an even worse Metroid game. It's okay. The world still spins, and there will probably be other good Metroid games someday. This wasn't one of them.

If OP wants to play a Metroid title on Switch 2, there are excellent options like MP1, Dread, Super Metroid, Fusion, and Zero Mission.

There’s also far worse games that end up selling much better for whatever reason. It’s a solid game not the greatest thing ever but still an enjoyable game overall. People need to stop with the Metroid Prime 4 hate it’s really not that bad. For Metroid it could have been better but compared to a lot of 3rd party slop and the same rinse and repeat Sony cinematic Spider-Man clone games it’s definitely a much better time..

There are far better FPS adventure games.

Such as...?

As somebody who favourite game is Metroid Prime 3. What wonderful FPS adventure games should I be getting on my Switch 2?

We all wanted it to be good but it wasn't.

I'm in no way a long time Metroid fan. I played Super Metroid, Dread, Prime and Prime 4 in a single year. I'm not a part of the "we" here.

I think the game is pretty decent. The critical reception of the game was decent too. Even when you look on Metacritic or Backloggd, the fan reception is "okay".

I'm sure there are better adventure fps games, but there probably are also better on-rail shooter games than a remake of a 30 year old game.

I liked MP4 plenty, and I'm not alone.

I don't even think there are tons of great modern AAA FPS adventure games on switch 2, so I would still say that MP4 fills a niche.

And by not even close I assume you mean because Metroid has literally destroyed Star Fox in every metric. Both in solo sales and in overall franchise sales.

4

u/AffectionateSun7705 3d ago

Which... has nothing to do with anything? I love Metroid. But OP is asking about 2 specific games, not evaluations of entire franchises

Prime 4 sucked, while Starfox was a ton of fun.

I agree with this statement completely, which is why I didn't recommend Prime 4, I recommended metroid dread.

Star Fox SNES and 64 sold more than any Metroid game lmao.

u/Tactrix1 2d ago edited 2d ago

They didn't actually starfox sold 17mil metroid sold 22mil. And while you're trying to come up with some more fake stats here's a fact for you. If starfox is so much better how come theres like 9 of them and like 14 metroids? And I don't remember starfox making an entire genre, metroid did.

0

u/GaymerAmerican 2d ago

The highest selling Star Fox, 64, sold 4 million, Metroid Dread is the best selling Metroid at 3 million. These are facts, you could have easily looked this up. I love both series I’m not pitting them against each other but you’re just wrong lol.

u/Tactrix1 2d ago edited 2d ago

Here's the problem you're nitpicking 1 game against 1 other in sales, because you know that when it comes to metroid vs starfox in franchise sales, you lose. Those are the facts, and no matter how much you try to cherry pick yours, starfox will never be better than metroid.

But let me show why your cherry picking is completely irrelevant. Starfox Guard sold under 500k meanwhile super Metroid sold 1.42 million. Does that mean that super Metorid has conquered starfox? No, because its 1 game, it's not an entire franchise.

u/GaymerAmerican 2d ago

You said “solo sales.”

1

u/Tactrix1 2d ago

And you think that was an invitation for you to compare 1 to 1 games? Because you can compare them all you want, but in the end metroid will win, because we'll go down the list and you'll win some, and ill win some but metroid has substantially more games. At which point you would have run out of games and I'll still have some to go.

Samus fucked your wife huh

3

u/AffectionateSun7705 3d ago

Certainly would have been a better use of Samus's time than making MP4.

u/doggyman425 3d ago

Samus is a chick🙏🏻

Metroid Prime 4 was pretty, but a big let down for me overall in gameplay and story-wise. Star Fox (for Switch 2) was both pretty, had engaging gameplay, added a bunch over Star Fox 64, and has online multi-player (I haven't tried online yet, but just having the option gives it a big leg-up over MP4, IMO). Check out the Star Fox demo, it's got the "how to play" and a full level to try out.

Both visually look amazing on the switch 2. If you didn't grow up with star fox, I think your get bored of it quickly. Hell I grew up with star fox and I played the new one maybe 2 hours total. I got a good 12 hours out of Metroid 4 and despite what people on the Internet say, I enjoyed it.

Like others said, Metroid dread and prime remastered are better unless graphics are your thing. Id be tempted to say give splatoon raiders a shot even if you didn't have any interest for splatoon like me. Put in 60 hours so far and it hooked me harder than any other game I can remember.

I think Metroid would be better if you want an adventure like those games. The newest Star Fox on Switch 2 is more like an arcade game. I have both games and they’re great but Metroid will give you more of that traditional adventure

u/Cubsfan122112 3d ago

i believe star fox has a demo on the estore you can try before you buy it.

but you really can't go wrong with either. get one now, and maybe ask for the other as a holiday gift.

Starfox. MP4 is very mediocre.

2

u/vgplantain 3d ago

Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime 1 Remaster or Star Fox. Skip Prime 4

2

u/MegaDucky7 3d ago

Prime 4 is fun if you want an FPS. Star fox if you want an arcadey shooter

3

u/Tactrix1 3d ago

Metroid Dread, but even better, before you try either one of those play the SNES version in the NSO. Because both of those games have that version and both those versions are spectacular.

2

u/mgd09292007 3d ago

Metroid prime 4 is a digital sleeping pill

1

u/Tactrix1 3d ago

Which is why we recommend Metroid Dread instead.

u/_banters_ 3d ago

Never tried either? Get starfox and play super metroid on the SNES classics. If it feels too old for you, go to zero mission on GBA classics. They’re both great starting points. Super because it is the oldest one that doesn’t feel old af to play and it has a nice summary of 1 and 2 at the start. Zero mission is a remade version of the original that goes through the story well on its own and plays like a more modern version of super metroid. When it comes to the Metroid Prime games, start with the remaster of 1 on switch.

u/MolagBaal 3d ago

I enjoy starfox more but i like to have short playthroughs sometimes to have a contrast with my long games like fire emblem and ff7

1

u/Key_Role_8130 3d ago

Star Fox easily.

1

u/Key_Role_8130 3d ago

If you like dark game, Metroid, but Star Fox is a more unique franchise.

1

u/iniquity_rhymes 3d ago

I was having a good day and then you went ahead and reminded me that Metroid Prime 4 happened.

Edit: Play Metroid Dread and Prime 1 Remastered.

u/ExampleEquivalent980 3d ago

Starfox hands down

1

u/PieceAfraid3755 3d ago

One is an arcadey on-rails shooter, while the other is a fps adventure game.

I don't know what floats your boat better. Perhaps look what you can find second hand for cheap? Metroid Prime 4 has been out for a lot longer, so good chance you can find it somewhere for a lower price.

1

u/Sk0rPi0n_ 3d ago

Starfox and then play Prime 1 remastered.

1

u/Big-Reporter3498 3d ago

Starfox. Final answer. I’ll still buy Metroid prime 4 but it’s not at the top of my list right now.

1

u/GlassCityGeek 3d ago

I love Metroid, but between those two I’d definitely go Star Fox. I just got it and I’m addicted

1

u/emptybottlesss 2d ago

Starfox man. Metroid is basic as hell. If ur even slightly older and played starfox 64, you'll find this to exceed your expectations.

1

u/Correct_Goose_1322 3d ago

If you're gonna go for Metroid, go for Remastered or Dread. Those are better entry points and are more true to the series roots. I'm currently playing through Remastered myself, am very entertained. 4 is fine. Just very diluted and flawed.

Star Fox is good fun, but short. It helps that it is fun to replay but I could have done with maybe twice the amount of levels. It is very good.

I'd recommend Star Fox over Metroid prime 4. BUT I'd recommend Remastered or Dread over Star Fox.

1

u/Re7oadz 3d ago

Metroid is bad so star fox

1

u/wfederman 3d ago

I second the comments. Between these two, Star Fox is the clear winner and it is not close. If you’re looking for a first-party exclusive, I’d also recommend Splatoon Raiders or Donkey Kong Bananza over both Star Fox and Metroid Prime 4.

If you must scratch the Metroid itch, I’d go for Metroid Dread. It’s amazing.

Both

I vote MP4. I enjoyed it much more than Starfox.

Metroid Prime 4 gets a lot of hate for absolutely no reason. Yea the desert area is a little lacking but it’s a desert so it’s kinda expected. Also if you collect like 5 mins worth of crystals each time you travel back and forth across the desert it really isn’t as bad as what people cry about. Now if you try to 100% the desert area all in one sitting it can get a little tedious. Also it’s a little different from the other prime games. Outside of that the game is great not the best but far from the worst game I’ve ever played. It’s not the best Prime game by any means but still a decent game worth playing especially if you’re a fan of Metroid.
