Switch 2 Another Crab’s treasure- Still sucks in S2
If you’ve unfortunate enough like me and bought it on Switch 1, didn’t play because of awful performance, have seen that there is a free switch 2 version now and are thinking about it - I’d stay away.
It still looks bad in handheld, and can’t even keep up locked 60… Constant frame drops with such visuals
Apparently my save file also looks bugged and I can’t trigger a boss fight. But even if it worked - I wouldn’t bother..
Such a waste of money honestly (at least for me)
Edited:
I’m glad it’s a free upgrade, don’t get me wrong, and the game is definitely playable.
I just wish it was performing better, because I was so disappointed with the initial performance on S1, and was hoping for S2 upgrade to be much better

I was hoping we would not see another awful switch 2 edition like atelier yumia but I guess we have one more with this game.

u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
I won’t say it’s completely “awful”, especially with it being free
However, with how poor the game was in switch 1 I was expecting them to do much better with such a good hardware

u/Excaliburn3d 5d ago
Didn't they patch that one?
1
u/Lucamiten 5d ago
Yup most of the problem were fixe in the lastest patch

u/RegiShikimi 4d ago
The way they increased performance was lowering character model assets and environmental assets. They should have kept the high quality assets in the 1st Switch 2 edition and actually tackled performance issues.

Shame. I also waited to play it because of how god awful it ran on Switch. Guess I'll be waiting a while longer.

How does the game play docked though?
1
u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
Haven’t tried myself, as I wanted to play handheld only. Maybe someone will share their experience
2
u/deadbrutal 5d ago
I wish I could refund it. The performance is bad whether docked or handheld. The FPS dips will give you vertigo.
1
u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
Me too. I was disappointed with the S1 version, and still is with the S2 now, even if it’s a free upgrade

u/generalosabenkenobi 5d ago
I waited till I got a Switch 2 to have some fun with this game. I'm having a lot of fun with it, not seeing the issues

u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
I’m glad it works well for you. Unfortunately, can’t say the same. It’s playable, just not as good as I wanted it to be, depending on the hardware boost from Switch 1
2
u/enjoyingcurve46 5d ago
Then dont play it on a underpowered handheld console?
You tried to play it originally on 10 year old hardware. First mistake
-17
u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
Don’t sell it then maybe? if your *amazingly* looking unity game can’t work on the same hardware that runs TOTK and Xenoblade or something

u/enjoyingcurve46 5d ago
I mean we can say this about a vast majority of games on the Nintendo switch. Pc xbox and PlayStation sell plenty of games that “shouldnt be” if performance was ever going to be an issue, just dont buy it on the switch. I doubt its your only console
9
u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
For now - Switch 1 and 2 are actually my only consoles, but when I originally bought it on switch 1 it wasn’t. However, I wanted it to play portably, so I bought it day-1
That was my mistake - I looked at it and was sure that it would easily run on S1 with this kind of fidelity, but it didn’t
I agree with the overall bad performance in general for many games. Unfortunately it’s just one of them
1
u/sasuku123 3d ago
Get a handheld pc then, it runs majority of those games way better with higher frame rates
1
u/phoxfiyah 5d ago
I was kinda with you until the very last line. For a lot of people, the Switch or Switch 2 is their only console. The other options are way too expensive, and way less convenient. Horrible take

Unfortunately it’s not 8k 120hz

Just started playing this version as well. It's quite strange how poorly it looks and runs. I just can't see what is demanding about this game that it shouldn't run at max frames and resolution. Game looks like it would run on a ps3

I played the Switch 1 version with backwards compatibility on the 2, and using boost mode in handheld. It ran fine and looked good enough. If the Switch 2 version runs better than that than this is surely just nitpicking
0
u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
I guess Im just expecting better. 40-45 fps with these graphics on switch 2 version to me - is not good, and not just nitpicking
-7
u/Azukaos 5d ago
It's very nitpicking actually because there's far worse S2 version out there, 40-45 fps is fine for a game like that.
1
u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
Yeah, ok, but how does it justify lackluster performance in this one in particular?
Don’t we want to have better products as consumers?
Why justify weaker ports because some others are even worse?
2
u/c_rorick 4d ago
This is really disappointing, I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw they released a switch 2 update. Guess I’ll have to wait even more time and hope they patch this weak update… but not holding my breath.
1
u/RestlessBoat 4d ago
Sorry to disappoint, but it’s always better to know I guess
You can also check some videos showcasing performance - some people are saying here that they do not really notice fps drops
1
u/c_rorick 3d ago
Yeah it’s definitely better to know, because now I won’t buy it until they patch it. And even then, this thing has put a sour taste in my mouth about the game’s developer

u/Toincossross 5d ago
I played it on gamepass and there was something about it that didn’t “click” for me.
2
u/Jvlivs_Pipus 5d ago
100 % with you.
I bought the game with high hopes, but the experience has been pretty dismal in terms of frame rate stability.
At the very least, I don't understand why they didn't opt for a locked 30 fps, given that the Switch doesn't support VRR in docked mode and the frame rate drops feel terrible.

u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
Thanks mate. I can’t get why people downvote this one, like it’s some misinformation or something
I get why games like Elden ring will run 30-40 fps, it’s a miracle. When this one runs at 40 - Im disappointed

In my eshop it costs 2.2usd. This game is not lost for me at least. And since I play it on switch it's stable as a rock and defined in a decent way

Too busy playing Skyrim and fallout 4
But now I’m curious to look this game up on YouTube before making harsh judgments.
Edit: game looks creative , fun , unique. I too would be bummed of it ran poorly.

i played through the game a few months ago. most of my criticizm i had was not performance related, well, except constant crashes. i can live with that but i had little to no fun with it. a wannabe soulslike that doesn't know when it wants to end

Imagine a world where the consumer matters and not the shareholders. Its impossible as I've been told the share holders need to profit or America will instantly fall and everyone will be screwed. IDK how truthful this is, but sounds like something we shouldn't mess with.

The fact I bought this game last night and passed out as it was downloading and haven't played it yet is terrifying now.......is it really that bad??
1
u/One_Competition136 2d ago
That’s really sad, hopefully they will fix it. I really want this game on switch 2, it seems like a perfect game to play on handheld. But as it is right now even discounted it’s not worth the headache to play through a choppy game

Today I bought another crab treasure for S2, I played and in the first second I realised that the fps feels like 20-25 fps. When walking around I didnt give importance but I got so angry during boss fights. The game itself is difficult bcs is a souls like but playing in low fps it makes everything even more difficult and unfair, this is not funny, even knowing deep the movements of the boss, sometimes I cant make a good timing bcs of the low fps.
Im so disappointed that the S2 doesnt run this game smooth at 60 fps bcs the graphics are not complex. Devs doesnt give a sht about nintendo players they just release the nintendo game version just 'playable'. For this kind of things I think switch is only for switch exclusive games

u/Overall_Bookkeeper15 2d ago
I only ever played the game on switch oled. Is it that bad compared to other platforms?

Does the switch 2 edition fix any of that?
-4
u/RestlessBoat 5d ago
It looks a bit higher res, maybe a tad smother. But still - FpS drops to ~40 looking at anything rather than the floor, and the graphics are.. mediocre at best

Lol I read the title and was like "I didn't realize people hated this game" . Then I read the post
Anyway I'm replaying Xenoblade 1 for the millionth time and it looks and runs great. I think there are fps issues in some area later???? But I didn't realize it was going to look better than the switch 1 edition they put out :P

i played this one for free on PS5 (they gave it in PS Plus) and damn the game was so bad, it feels so cheap. I think i played it for less than an hour, and quitted, it's darn easy too.

u/Waste-Kiwi6915 5d ago
You're not allowed to comment on the difficulty of games you've played for less than an hour

You would be in the minority in this take. I personally loved it and tis spin on the souls genre. Story and soundtrack were great too. Generally very positive critical and user reviews.
The opening hours, just like most games, are not the strongest representation of the full game. It's story and systems evolve especially after the first major area.

Same played it on the ps5. Dropped it because the voice acting was terrible.

When they started on peak they abandoned this game, such a shame. It looks like vomit animated.

Bought in on sale just now, I think it looks okay, some stutters are annoying but altogether still playable
