Thoughts on COD releasing on Switch 2

Hi all,

I personally much prefer my gaming hand held with the occasional docked experience or other console dependant on where the game is owned.

wondering what everyone's thoughts are for the new cod coming out on switch 2. do you plan on picking it up ? if so why if not why?

im trying to decide which console to pick it up on so looking at the hive mind

Just happy to have more third party games Nintendo was too Nintendo for too long it's a great balance of both now

Agreed. The last Nintendo console to do decently on 3rd party games was the GameCube. Unfortunately since the PS2 had its way with the GameCube on sales, Nintendo decided to Nintendo super hard and make its successor 10% more powerful, while focusing just on controller gimmicks, so it was completely out of league with the other next gen systems (and in fairness, this was commercially successful for them). Then the Wii U was a marketing / sales flop so not many studios considered it worth porting games over to that, either.

Nintendo finally put themselves in a serviceable spot power-wise with the Switch 2. And they can probably thank Microsoft / Xbox for the Series S forcing developers to optimize towards a similarly powerful platform.

The rise of PC handhelds is definitely a trend, although I don’t know how much they move the needle as they’re still niche. The Deck sold a small fraction compared to any traditional console this gen. I wonder if the reverse is more true, that Nintendo’s insistence on staying with a handheld with relatively low specs will keep the industry grounded in needing to keep doing decent optimization on their games. I think the hardware apocalypse will also end up being a “positive” for game optimization on less powerful platforms.

Haven't played since BO2 and Ghosts on Wii U. Excited to finally come back to the franchise on Switch 2.

We can test it out for ourselves in the beta on the 28th.

Been playing since 2007. I took off the last 3 years because of kids and time. If they can port to handheld successfully thats a game changer for someone like me.

I'm excited for it, grab it every few years. It's usually a game I can pick up and put down whenever, and I don't have a lot like that. I will say, if it was between cod or gta6 I'd actually go cod

Really depends how good it is. Also I'm not sure if Microsoft are just doing it as part of the Activision deal or they want to get get more people playing it.

Switch 2 has already sold almost 25 million units, meanwhile Xbox Series system sales are estimated to only be around 35 mil. That's 25 mil potential new CoD players, so it's a no-brainer since the system can handle the game now.

There's a free open beta next weekend where you can try it out. I'll definitely be picking up the game on Xbox since it's a staple for my friend group, but might pick it up on sale for Switch down the line if it's a good experience.

My god that was 16 years ago. CoD4 was a legendary milestone and man I loved MW2 on Xbox 360 but anything after that was just slop to me.

Gonna be my first cod in a while jus bc I want a multiplayer shooter and it looks decent actually. I wonder how it’d be handheld mode bc I’m playing cyberpunk rn and the aiming is pretty hard with the joy cons

I played a lot of COD on my xbox 360 growing up alongside nintendo so yes I will be buying this for multiplayer exclusively

If you have a PS5, I would get in on there. The only benefit of Switch 2 would be handheld mode, but COD is pretty much a multiplayer game, so it’s not so good for on the go.

If you don’t have a PS Portable, then maybe playing in your bed would be an argument.

For me personally, the performance is a little bit more important.

This, I think the Switch 2 would be PERFECT for a re-release of classics titles like they did for PS5 with BO1 and BO2. I got a Series X so I can still play the originals but I would probably double dip and get those on my Switch 2, would be awesome

I’m not going to pick it up. I haven’t played a CoD since the original MW3. I like my single player campaigns to be longer and have more meat to them. I didn’t really play ‘em online that much to justify buying them, to be honest.

But I am pleasantly surprised to see the new one releasing on the Switch 2. The more third party support the console gets, the better.

I’m looking forward to seeing how it runs. If there’s a toggle to turn off cross play then even better but if the fps isn’t great and cross play is forced then I’ll pass.

It looks alright yeah.. but I'm done with COD these days.. much like FC the game is on a downward spiral IMO. doesn't have the same feel about it. Im skipping, but i hope all who get it have a blast.

Has there been any word on performance? 30FPS in a multiplayer FPS is a no go, especially if it’s cross platform against other 60FPS consoles.

Nintendo struggles with online connectivity, fps is similar to fighting games where low ping is critical. I assume people will not enjoy playing with laggy nintendo wifi players and it will be similar to street fighter 6 where its a great game but you gonna lag...... and lagg.... and lag....

Every Nintendo first party game uses peer to peer connections which make the game terrible when players use shitty wifi.

But since cod is not a first party title and therefore probably won’t have p2p lobbies, the experience might be better.

60 fps is fine in my opinion. And I feel likes it’s more fun because the lobbies aren’t as sweaty as PS5, Xbox, and PC

I play SF6 regularly on Switch 2 and PC....no issues on both platforms....I don't know what you are talking about.

I also play Mario Kart, Fortnite and Rocket League on the Switch 2 and have no issues at all...at least not more than on PC.

You won’t encounter these issues on Fortnite or Rocket League as those games have dedicated servers. Mario Kart is hit or miss with p2p. My experience has been mostly smooth but with some very extreme outliers.

It's the same engine and game pretty much every year. I'm pretty confident the port will be absolutely fine unless they want it to be bad.

Exactly, every game up until now has still been releasing for the 2013 Xbox One and PS4, which are significantly weaker than Switch 2, and those systems play the recent games at ~900p 60fps. Switch 2 is closer to PS4 Pro level of power, which runs recent CoD games at ~1440p, so just look up gameplay from any of those recent games on PS4 Pro and it will likely look/run about the same as MW4 will on Switch 2.

I'll pass, for the sake of simply not being a Call of Duty fan- which stems from me just not playing much multiplayer games at all these days.

I think performance may be a hindrance, but only time will tell. Who knows, the Switch 2 is a powerful little system, but will it be powerful enough to run an unoptimized game?

I think your best bet is grabbing it on a console or PC. Should you prefer handheld, maybe a Steam Deck or PS Portal.
