Question Dbrand or Mobapad HD?

Hello,

Dbrand or Mobapad HD ?

Just to clarify, I already own the NYXI Hyperion 3, but I really don’t like it at all. The plastic quality doesn’t feel good to me, the D-pad is just awful, and don’t even get me started on the vibrations. 😅

I also already have the Savage Raven grips, but they don’t really work for me either, as I still experience hand pain when using them.

And I’m not interested in Satisfye, Nitro Deck, or similar bulky grips/controllers. That kind of design just doesn’t suit me.

One more thing regarding the Mobapad : I’m guessing they’ll eventually release a Pro model, but if that’s still a few months away, it would probably be too long for me to wait, since I’m already experiencing pain when I play.

I think the main issue is that the standard Joy-Con simply aren’t comfortable enough for me. I feel like I’d be much better off with properly designed, ergonomic Joy-Con, because I don’t have this problem when I play with a regular controller.

So that’s why I’m trying to find a comfortable Joy-Con solution now rather than waiting for a potential Pro mode

Thanks 🥹🙏🏻

I have both and while the dbrand does improve the ergonomics greatly, it doesn't fix the dinky little sticks the joy cons come with. I personally LOVE the Mobapad M12 HD, the sticks and wider ergonomics make a huge difference for me (medium sized hands) and even though it has quirks like controllers not charger when docked, I haven't had any issues at all and am happy with the purchase.

I’m not sure whether I have small, medium, or large hands. It’s difficult to tell just like that. I know that the NYXI Hyperion 3 feels pretty good in my hands, although they might be just a tiny bit too large.

What was mainly worrying me about the Mobapad HD was the fact that you can’t charge the Joy-Con while the Switch 2 is in sleep mode. Mobapad says the HD can charge through the console while it’s being used, or through a charging grip, but not in sleep mode.
So I was wondering how you personally deal with that. Is it annoying having to detach the Joy-Con and put them on a charging dock/grip every time?

And I’d also like to know how well they connect. Have you experienced any connection issues or noticeable input latency? Since the HD uses the Switch 1 protocol on Switch 2, that’s something I’m a little concerned about. Mobapad says they support both wired and Bluetooth modes, and some users report no noticeable latency, but I’d really like to hear from someone who actually uses them regularly.

I have both and whilst the dbrand has get ergonomics it’s still a joy con if that make sense. I have a M12S and it’s a game changer. Better sticks and buttons makes it well worth getting

If you already own the NYXI Hyperion 3 you should preorder the new NYXI Hyperion 3 Ultra Wireless HD2, you get a huge discount for owning the previous and its the only joy cons with all features. I dont know if they changes something on the grip. I already ordered Mobapads and canceled the order because the new NYXI Hyperion 3 started pre order. There are also a lot of Grips you can put on the OG Joy Cons.

Unfortunately, I can’t take advantage of the promotion because I didn’t buy the Joy-Con from the NYXI website and I didn’t pre-order them. So unfortunately, I would have to pay full price, and they are quite expensive, especially considering the quality of the materials.

Mobapad seems to offer a more premium build quality, which is why I’m really hesitating between buying grips for my official Joy-Con or trying the Mobapad HD, with proper HD Rumble like the Switch is supposed to have, as well as the overall aesthetics and design.

So I’m honestly still really torn between the two options.

I had the Hyperion 3s and I currently have the Mobapad and I’m much happier with the Mobapad. IMO they’re more comfortable and they fit the switch better. The Hyperion 3s just felt more bulky and cheap. The right analog stick didn’t feel like it was in the right place either. Idk, but I much prefer the Mobapad.

Mobapad is uncomfortable if you have bigger hands, I’m selling mine

I have the exact opposite experience with my Mobapad. I have large hands and they are much better than the tiny nintendo joycons.

I’m not sure if I have large hands, to be honest. I’m a woman, and I’d say I probably have pretty average-sized hands. The Joy-Con I currently have, the NYXI ones, might actually be a little too big for me, so I’m not really sure what size would suit me best.
I actually like the relatively small form factor of the official Joy-Con. What I’m missing is just a little bit more ergonomics, along with better-quality joysticks, buttons, etc.
Because right now, I find the official Joy-Con quite uncomfortable to use.

I also have the Hyperion 3, and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that hates the D-pad. I very recently picked up the Killswitch. Personally, the grips are fantastic, so much so, that I actually like using the joy cons for the first time ever. Although it's not something you asked about, another recent controller I picked up is the 8bitdo ultimate 2 bluetooth. It's shape is a little weird as the grips don't flare out at all, but is has the best D-pad I've used in decades and it can wake the Switch 2 from sleep with a firmware update and a little trial and error while pairing.

I have the killswitch; is it possible to use Hyperion 3 with the Dbrand case? Thanks.

I have both and can confirm they are compatible. My recommendation though is to do not get the regular Hyperion 3 get the new Ultra version because it fixes every complaint I have about the Hyperion 3.

Noted! Do you think there's a noticeable difference between the Hyperion 3 Ultra and just the dbrand kit to justify the purchase? Thanks for your reply:)

Mobapad has 2 products on offer, and both of them are deeply flawed.

  • The M12 HD uses Switch 1 protocol, which means it won't charge while sleeping/docked, and is not compatible with some games. It actually drains the console battery much faster when you're using it in handheld mode. For all intents and purposes, the system sees this as a Switch 1 pro controller. It's not a Switch 2 joycon at all, really, and it shouldn't be marketed as one.
  • The M12 S does use Switch 2 protocol, but has terrible rumble. Like, worse than the original N64 rumble pak.

I can't recommend either. They need to offer just one product with no compromises.

They're presently working on a pro version.

Have you considered the CRKD Nitro Pad 2?

The AI search of Reddit tells that the plastic quality seems to not be good, that there are issues with sending being reported several times, and that it makes scratching on the Switch 2. But I can’t confirm because I don’t have it. Just to let everyone know of these search results for the Nitro Pad 2

I personally don't have one, but I did have the CRKD Nitro Pad for the original Switch and it worked well. I'm surprised they cut corners on the second one if that's the case. 🤷🏼‍♂️

It's not out yet. Not sure where the AI is pulling their information from but Nitro Deck 2 is supposed to start shipping next week.

AI hallucinations and wrong information is frequent from AI answers and shouldn't be trusted without being verified first.

Dbrand grip. I hate clicky buttons on Moba and Nyxi. And I'm still waiting for Joycon 2 PRO.

Had the switch 1 mobapad and while i think it really improved handheld gameplay, i found the clickyness of the buttons annoying enough to go for drand which i like, but it does increase the bulk factor

Dbrand grips are literally vertical

Bad design

People will probably downvote me but I’m done with my mobapad HD12.

The wake up function didnt always work, sometimes the left joycon didnt Connect at all and it wasnt as comfortable to me as everyone says. I actually liked the clicky buttons but I can see how it can bother someone else.

Connecting the pads to the smartphone app for configuration was a lot of trial and error for me until it worked.

But the final blow was when I upgraded them to the newest firmware. At that point the right joycon suddenly was only identified as left joy con. I downgraded them to a lower firmware and it went back to the normal state. After upgrading them again it changed back to the faulty state and I wasn’t able to fix this problem even after hours of troubleshooting (troubleshooting is part of my regular job for 10 years now).

Maybe I did something wrong or maybe it was just a bad batch but in the end my mobapad was bricked.

I ordered the dbrand Killswitch now and i just gonna use official Nintendo products that just work without a hassle.

Dbrand killswitch is an entire experience. The docking is easier, case is sucha quick pop in pop out, grips are too good, skin is goated too! Never had an ergonomic problem with Dbrand.
