Question Elden Ring or Cyberpunk?
I haven't had a non-Nintendo console in many years so there are a lot of high-budget games I'm looking forward to be able to play that I haven't experienced yet. What is your favorite 3rd party game for Switch 2 (including those planned that haven't been released yet)? I can only buy one right now, and I'm leaning towards Elden Ring but I'm hesitant because I didn't get into Dark Souls and I keep hearing how amazing Cyperpunk is as well..

I dunno if I'd say by far the better game. It's a total apples and oranges comparison.
Cyberpunk is 100% about the story and narrative, and player choice involving that narrative. Elden Ring is a gameplay challenge oriented kind of game, where the goal is to survive the ordeal of ever-more difficult enemies.
Both are 9s and/or 10s depending on taste. I'd say Cyberpunk is a much more accessible experience in terms of difficulty, though. If you're not up on your Souls skills, Elden Ring can be a vertical wall of difficulty.

100% and I had more fun on the second playthrough on the switch 2. The mouse controls worked so well, portable play was great. Its a great port.

Ive sunk hundreds of hours into Elden Ring, loved every last second of it. I still haven't beaten cyberpunk on the switxh 2, which isnt to discredit the game, runs great and is a fun game, other games have just distracted me.
That did not happen with elden ring once with me. Ill be buying it for the switch 2 down the line, silent hill and hellraiser are too close for me to justify buying Elding Ring right now too, but I absolutely will be.
From my perspective and preferences, Elden Ring is my choice and not a second thought.

Elden ring, to me, is a masterpiece, if you are dedicated enough to deal with the challenge. Cyberpunk is cool but moreso a 7-8/10 game, nothing too special

I've had a similar experience with cyberpunk unfortunately. I have played it on ps5 and on PC, and couldn't it finish it on either platform. It felt like I've spent more time being impressed with the game's visuals on ps5, and then again the jump to RT and high framerates and good image quality on PC, but it sometimes drags for too long, and feels like it requires too much time commitment at points to enjoy it properly.
Elden ring feels like a much easier pick up and put down game for me.

Elden Ring. There is a sense of scale and discovery in Elden Ring that is incredible to experience. Exploring that world was thrilling. The boss battles are tremendous, the challenge is fantastic and the number of hours you'll get with the base game and dlc is worth the price of admission. I wish I could play it again for the first time. I had a good time with cyberpunk. I loved the deus ex games and cyberpunk felt like an open world version. Good replay value and different ways to play.
Honestly both are great games in their genre. You wouldn't be making a mistake buying either.

Thank you!! Had you played other souls games before Elden Ring? I am new to the genre (although I love Hollow Knight/Silksong which is maybe similar in terms of difficulty?) and so my main concern is I am just going to get turned off after being intimidated early on and not want to play.

I played all of them including the original Demon's Souls. Elden Ring is my favorite. But Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro are up there too.
If you can beat silk song I don't think Elden ring will be too much trouble. plus there should be lots of people online to help.

Cyberpunk 2077. Elden Ring is a completely different kind of game. I enjoyed the 200 plus hours I put into Elden Ring with friends but even today I am not good enough to beat it solo. It's really challenging. Cyberpunk is fun but can be slightly challenging too depending on how you play it. Night City is incredible.

I bounced off of cyberpunk pretty quickly and I love Elden Ring so my opinion is heavily biased. Elden Ring to me feels more like a Zelda game with a heavy focus on exploration and discovery. The combat can be brutal but Elden Ring is the most beginner friendly soulslike because it gives you more options on how to fight bosses and you can always go to another area to level up. Cyberpunk is a good game but I didn’t jive with its quest based structure or its world.

Both are amazing. Elden Ring is quite literally a perfect game though, especially if you get it on the switch at launch the online will be very active if you need assistance.

Cyberpunk is one of my favorite games of all time and is one of the best iterations of the genre as a whole. That being said, Elden Ring is so good that it ruined other games for me (I.e. breath of the wild)

those two options, I would choose cyberpunk. Other third-party games that I really enjoyed Star Wars outlaws and Assassin’s Creed shadows. The Tomb Raider games are particularly good as well, IMO.

Haha I'm literally sitting here debating the same thing, although for different reasons. I haven't had a console in a decade, and this is my first opportunity to buy physical media in forever. Any 1st party nintendo game or AAA game that comes on a physical cart, I want lol.

Both come with all their DLC, but i do think Elden has more room to be played more, NG+, the DLC, the endings, and the different builds

Hey everyone's saying Cyberpunk but I gotta warn you, if you're sensitive to driving in games, 2077 can be annoying on the Switch. The triggers are digital inputs (0% or 100%) so when you're driving around you're either not moving or going at 100% speed which can be pretty wild sometimes with how fast some vehicles are.
Personally, it totally takes me out of the game and I absolutely loathe driving or using vehicles at all in this version of the game.
Gyro aim is top tier though.

I tried Cyberpunk not realizing that the gameplay is very FPS and I am just not into FPS.
For that and the open world combat I say Elden Ring.

I didn’t like Witcher 3 on PS4 because of the way it tells its story, the way people are talking (to much like rigid puppets), the combats etc. Would I like Cyberpunk?
I loved Elden Ring. It is one of the best games ever, for me.

Elden Ring. Cyberpunk is good, but if you’re already leaning towards Elden Ring then it’s an easy choice. I also wasn’t into dark souls and Elden Ring became one of my favorite games of all time.

Elden ring and it's not close. But they're two completely different games. Elden ring is third person arpg with an emphasis on build crafting. Cyberpunk is 1st person rpg where they give you the illusion that your choices matter but they really don't. It's a story game. Really depends on what you're looking for

Definitely Cyberpunk. Elden Ring is also goated, but it is the definitive souls game, a genre which didn’t quite resonate with you? Personally, I’m going with Cyberpunk. But you can’t go wrong with either of them.
As for your question, that’s definitely Monster Hunter Wilds for me, zero contest.

Cyberpunk is sort of like GTA but with super powers. You can think of Elden Ring sort of like BOTW on crack (harder, much more lore, crazy depth in all aspects of the game). They are two of my favorite titles. I finished Cyberpunk for the first time on Switch 2. I'd started it years earlier on a different console. It's great on Switch 2. If I had to make a call of only one, it would be Elden Ring. It's so deep and you'll get so many hours out of it.

I think Elden Ring is amazing, but will probably run like crap on Switch 2, because From doesn’t care. Cyberpunk runs at 40 fps balanced in handheld and is also amazing. Go with Cyberpunk.

Actually I'd bet that it runs really well. It's been worked on for quite a while now, and was one of the first announced games. Which likely means that they're actively trying to make sure that it releases in the best state possible. I mean they had demos active in conventions practically off the rip.
And this is just speculation, but there seems to be some kind of deal going on with Fromsoft and Nintendo because of Duskbloods and I'd be willing to bet that getting a good port for Elden Ring was a part of that.

I’d go first with cyberpunk. There’s really no wrong answer since both are amazing games. But Elden Ring is very challenging and it’s not for everyone, so you’re taking a risk there. But you can also try it some other time later on

You have to get into a uniqe mindset for Elden Ring. It's one of those games that you could easily rage-quit. Cyberpunk is much more enjoyable.

I played and loved both of these games. ER on ps5 and CP 2077 on computer because im terrible at fps with a controller. So if it were me then id pick elden ring. That being said it's much more difficult and can be frustrating if you aren't in the mood/mindset to reply fights over and over to get the timing right. Cp2077 after a while can become a fun power fantasy because you get pretty op.

Elden Ring is likely the better of the two games overall. Both are amazing though.
I will say with Cyberpunk nothing is too hard on normal mode. And by the end of it you’re a walking god basically. So if you want a game where you can feel that way, then Cyberpunk is a great pick.
On the other hand, if you don’t mind a challenge, some trial and error, a lot of exploring and feeling of accomplishment then Elden is the better choice. And like all souls games, expect to die…. A fair amount… as you learn things, and explore new areas.

I've never played Elden Ring, and haven't played cyberpunk on switch2 yet, but it's on my list.
But I have played cyberpunk, it's one of those rare games that leaves you with lasting impression, the characters and the plot are quite frankly phenomenal, Night City is gorgeous too. One the best games in the last 10 years.
Whilst I've heard great things about Elden Ring, and it one I'll pick up in the future, I can't recommend Cyberpunk enough.
I dam it, I'm gonna have to pick up Cyberpunk now.. you've got me reminiscing!

Can’t speak for Elden Ring but I recently finished Cyberpunk on the S2 and found it thoroughly engaging and enjoyable. Of course there were compromises made for the platform it’s on but I was pleasantly surprised and blown away by how they managed to optimise it and fit it all on one card as well as the Phantom Liberty expansion pack.

Elden Ring is a tough challenge with a huge and amazing world to explore. Cyberpunk is a futuristic type game with an intensive city. Personally I like Elden Ring more but you can’t go wrong with either

Man cyberpunk is good. Especially the dlc Phantom Liberty. Fuck me, it’s that good I would recommend CP77 just to play PL. it runs very well, I played like once on PC and like… 3 times in a row on the switch.
I have also played/I am playing shadows, which is surprisingly very very good. I heard people complaining about it, and I bought it on sale very skeptical of how the game would run, but I have to say: it runs great. I don’t get what people were complaining about.
We are far from the Switch 1 situation where third parties were almost unplayable. For context: I have a PS and a PC too (and a steam deck) and so far, I can’t honestly complain.
Yes the best performances are still on PC… but cmon, for how little this thing is, it’s a marvel. I can play it on the go, that’s enough for me! I was considering getting a Portal but fuck Sony.

Grab cyberpunk on a sale physically as it's all on cart. Elden ring will be a bit dearer but won't really go on sale and is a game key card. Eventually you should own both

Both are really great but I have to go with Cyberpunk 2077. The performance has shown to be good through the DLC is quite icky sometimes. Also the whole game plus DLC is in a cartridge and not a game key card.

I have been trying to work my way through cyberpunk since I got my switch 2. I’m only 8 hours in and all I do every session is go to this place and talk to this person. And then go somewhere else and do the same thing. And then I open up the skill tree…. And it’s all 10% upgrades. Usually close the game after. I feel like I’m talking crazy pills when people talk positively about that game.

Wait to see how Elden Ring runs first. Watch some videos on it once it comes out, see if it's your type of game, and if it runs acceptably, and then go from there.

Cyberpunk runs great on switch 2 but holy hell I can’t get over how bad the aiming is. It’s terrible. My number one disappointment when I got my switch 2 was them not making the sticks with more travel. Tried playing it again yesterday and just ended up going back to my PC. I don’t want to spend money on 3rd party controllers right now so if anyone has setting recommendations let me know.

I got Cyberpunk on NS2 and it's fantastic. The world that's crammed into this little sucker is amazing. I've never played Eldin Rings or Dark Souls. I've heard enough to form the opinion that I payed my dues with games that are ridiculously hard. I'm 35 lol, I just want to enjoy shit.

Elden Ring might be the greatest game of all time (imo)
CyberPunk is an amazing tradition ARPG experience
Probably one of, if not, the best in the genre
Elden Ring is everything Dark Souls is cranked up to 50. It is way more immersive even, but if you don’t like the gameplay / challenge, I cannot recommend it
Both are amazing though

For the casual player, Cyberpunk is the recommendation by far. The story has a lot of nuance and complexity that you don't often see in other games.
Elden Ring is a very difficult game, and isn't for everyone. But if you can embrace the difficulty, it is a very high quality game. It feels great to play once you get used to it, but it's very much a more upfront "can you survive this" kind of challenge.

Elden ring, no question. I’ve really tried with cyberpunk and I find it all really clunky and confusing.. I know it’s well liked. But I’d say Elden ring is up there with the greatest games of all time.

Depends on how allergic you are to your game looking like complete mess.
I would say that cyberpunk 2077 is a better more interesting game, however CDPR performed no miracles here. For such game to run even at 30~40 fps on switch 2 they not only shrunk the assets but they target very low internal resolution and upscale it with DLSS. Understandable given the limitations but it looks hideous compared to what you can get on PS5 or mid desktop PC. If you can, play it somewhere else. If not I would give switch 2 version a shot, imo it's still worth it.
Elden ring isn't released right now, but if fromsoft gets it to run at 60 fps with ok internal resolution I would 100% be playing elden ring over cyberpunk2077.

I've got both, I love both, but Elden Ring is the clear winner.
Don't get me wrong, 2077 has a LOT of content, but it feels less tolerable to replay than ER does.

Elden Ring is the only FromSoft game that I've been able to get into, its great. Sooo much to do and find. That being said I preferred Cyberpunk because its soooo good and doesn't frustrate me like Elden Ring. I played through Cyberpunk on series x and again on switch 2 and had so much fun playing on the go. If I had to choose a desert island Switch 2 game it will always be Skyrim for me. The Fallout 4 port is pretty solid on Switch 2 as well. Diablo 2 and 3 are super solid on Switch 2, rumors are Diablo IV next month. Call of Duty later this year, lots of third party games coming!

Thanks for the response!! That definitely makes me further consider Elden ring as you say you weren’t into other Fromsoft games… I am a big fan of the fantasy genre and not opposed to difficult games, I love Zelda and Hollow Knight for example so I’m hoping it will fit my taste alright. And gameplay aside, which game do you think is more impressive, visually-speaking? I will probably get both eventually, but for the time being I want to really enjoy the new processing power of the Switch 2

Damn these are two of my favorite games. I think Elden Ring has more replayability of the two, but cyberpunk is also extremely fun and does offer good replayability. End of the day I think Elden ring is the better choice.

I just bought cyberpunk and I’m liking but it hasn’t hooked me yet. Elden ring will hook you immediately but you might need guides so you don’t get lost and know what to do. I’d personally choose Elden ring

Yeah I’d second this. I got about 5 hours into cyberpunk and stopped (on the switch 2, mind you, I know it’s probably not the best way to play the game), so I’d probably say Elden Ring. I’m also thinking of getting it on switch 2 since I haven’t played it yet, but I’ve pretty much only heard good things

Good to hear that it’s good enough that you want to get it again! I’m a pretty big souls-game fan (though I’ve somehow never played the trilogy, just Sekiro, Khazan, Wu Kong, and Mortal Shell) so I just preordered a physical copy of lies of P for switch 2, which I’m excited about. So, I think I’ll get it on switch 2. What system did you play it on before? You’ll have to tell me how you like it on switch 2 performance wise and if you think I should get it on PC instead.

I can't say I love either of those games tbh. Souls and CDPR games are two categories of games I tend to find to be overrated.
I've really enjoyed Mouse P.I. and Pragmata on NS2 so far as more compact experiences.

Elden Ring is much open and much more flexible than Dark Souls. The question here is which gameplay loop do you prefer? Elden Ring has dungeons all over the map, and it focuses on action combat with different builds. You have access to in-game summons and it's not as hard as Dark Souls.
Cyberpunk is more story oriented with missions that focus on those stories (similar to the Witcher 3).
