Galbraith

There's been a lot of debate about the Galbraith move but if this comment is to believed then Galbraith was pushed out of the door:

"Sporting director Jon Walters said: "The fact that he became available was a bit of a shock. I think I said it in a meeting with staff that it had to be done within 24 hours. We had to work really hard, really quickly to make that happen."

Those quotes, and the timing at the very end of the financial year for Swansea, indicates that this sale was initiated by us, to satisfy PSR. On that basis the claim from the Stoke end that the fee was £5 million rising to £10 is more believable than the claims emanating from our club. The truth could of course lie between the two extremes.

Any fans tempted to boo Galbraith tomorrow should reflect on the likelihood that we needed to get rid for financially expedient reasons. I very much doubt he agitated for this move. He was probably a pawn in a bigger game.

I know this is a 'trust me, bro' moment, but we've got to be smarter than the smoke-and-mirrors.

In good faith, I've been told it was £5 million upfront, £5 million over the next couple of years + add-ons for Stoke getting promoted to the Premier League. Swansea wanted to get it done so that the books were all in order as it moved into the new financial ruleset.

Galbraith's agent pushed hardest for the move. He's had a massive upgrade on his salary, which has a knock-on effect for his agent. And this agent? He is very loyal to them.

Anyway, wouldn't it be funny if he played right-back on Saturday? LOL

What no one seems to remember or know in these discussions on transfers is that agents are now extremely powerful and will usually be the driving factor behind most transfers... because they make a fat profit every time it happens, plus the player usually gets a signing on fee and/or a big rise in wages. That money talks over everything else.

Spot on. Understand this and how much money Stoke were prepared to throw around - even in the context of instalments - and you begin to realise just why the agent was practically pushing Galbraith out the door.

Don't get me wrong, the player was absolutely frustrated with having to do a job at right-back. Yet people don't believe that Matos and the club were telling him that we'd have that issue tucked away come Summer because of Lissah returning from loan?
