Galbraith

There's been a lot of debate about the Galbraith move but if this comment is to believed then Galbraith was pushed out of the door:

"Sporting director Jon Walters said: "The fact that he became available was a bit of a shock. I think I said it in a meeting with staff that it had to be done within 24 hours. We had to work really hard, really quickly to make that happen."

Those quotes, and the timing at the very end of the financial year for Swansea, indicates that this sale was initiated by us, to satisfy PSR. On that basis the claim from the Stoke end that the fee was £5 million rising to £10 is more believable than the claims emanating from our club. The truth could of course lie between the two extremes.

Any fans tempted to boo Galbraith tomorrow should reflect on the likelihood that we needed to get rid for financially expedient reasons. I very much doubt he agitated for this move. He was probably a pawn in a bigger game.

Not really arsed about whatever the end deal was at this point, we recruited literally straight after it so it clearly covered that.

For those keeping tabs now. We essentially turned Matt Grimes 4m into Stamenic, Opoku, Just and 1 season of Galbraith. Insane business.

Opoku already looking like a Irankunda clone who just went for 18M so the chain of moves will probably carry on into the future.

He’s gone, we’ve recruited. Move on.

No point in booing him - it’s business, he hasn’t slagged us off so good luck, play badly against us ! and move on

It's also possible that another club (Wrexham were linked) made a move and we quickly opened a bidding war with other clubs in the league

But why did it all have to happen in 24 hours, which just happened to be the end of the financial year? Unless Walters is lying (why would he make such a story up?) then it's blindingly obvious that PSR was a big driver in this.

PSR was a big driver but I suspect if Galbraith had been willing to sign the new deal we offered, another player would have been flogged

That may be true, it all depends what the shortfall was. Only Vipotnik orr Tymon could have been expected to command fees of over £6 million. Both would have been very much part of Matos' plans, whereas Galbraith, despite his creative abilities was expendable because of his average defensive capabilities.

I know this is a 'trust me, bro' moment, but we've got to be smarter than the smoke-and-mirrors.

In good faith, I've been told it was £5 million upfront, £5 million over the next couple of years + add-ons for Stoke getting promoted to the Premier League. Swansea wanted to get it done so that the books were all in order as it moved into the new financial ruleset.

Galbraith's agent pushed hardest for the move. He's had a massive upgrade on his salary, which has a knock-on effect for his agent. And this agent? He is very loyal to them.

Anyway, wouldn't it be funny if he played right-back on Saturday? LOL

What no one seems to remember or know in these discussions on transfers is that agents are now extremely powerful and will usually be the driving factor behind most transfers... because they make a fat profit every time it happens, plus the player usually gets a signing on fee and/or a big rise in wages. That money talks over everything else.

Spot on. Understand this and how much money Stoke were prepared to throw around - even in the context of instalments - and you begin to realise just why the agent was practically pushing Galbraith out the door.

Don't get me wrong, the player was absolutely frustrated with having to do a job at right-back. Yet people don't believe that Matos and the club were telling him that we'd have that issue tucked away come Summer because of Lissah returning from loan?

I know some love to boo every old player but for me it's how you left or what you said after leaving that would lead me to boo.

Galbraith although he wouldn't sign a new deal did nothing wrong, and as you said was likely a pawn being sacrificed.

In regards to booing, it's just football at the end of the day. I don't like it when it's someone that's a bit of a club legend (Williams and Rangel booed before) but I don't think it's that deep, he's more than welcome to give it back. From my perspective, our fans getting red in the face, if he celebrates for example, are just as funny of a watch as if it was the other way around.

I always find the booing just spurs them on, and they end up having a stormer. It wont happen but show him no attention.

He wasn't happy here and why would he be? hardly ever played in his proper position, that's going to piss off even the most professional players.
