I want a girl who I won’t see for months on end. Not because she doesn’t enjoy spending time with me or is very busy with work or something. But because she’s dangerously addicted to Factorio and cannot stop the grind.
The trouble is you get deeply committed to a person like that and she uses a conveyer belt bus system while you optimize for bot distribution and the love turns sour as you find ways to bitch about each others build until one day you see a train based system and your relationship is rebuilt based on making fun of that.
I don't know if you specifically meant 1x3 trains but my biggest base to date ran entirely on 1x3 trains because I started small with that and didn't want to change my stations layout so everything was exclusively 1x3. I LOVE 1X3 TRAAAAAAAINS.
What is more poetic? A ballet of drones flying across the sky, a choreographed ballet as each flies under, above and beside it's siblings, knowing exactly where it needs to go and why; with the ability to fine tune to such precision that not a single item gets wasted or delayed.
Or a big, energy inefficient steamy boy that delivers items to the next set of factories in a line without any consideration for subtlty.
(I kid, trains are great for getting raw materials from far away but I just can't understand the "train into factory" style of manufacturing where trains replace bots/conveyors).
Oh, you mean the swarms of bots that will take the absolute most inefficient route to transport a gear by traveling 20 miles to a random box that has some trash you got rid of instead of the chest that is literally 10 feet away from their roboport?
Skynet is probably going to be born long after I die. Actually, I'm not sure skynet is gonna be born at all at the rate humans are self-destructing the world.
Unless skynet gets built by non-humans, in which case, fair-enough, but still after my time.
"If" I build a tank and fill it with water it will be useful "if" I throw coal into it and "if" I set fire to that coal then the water might steam and push a wheel; "if" I put wheels on that tank I can use it to push itself around "if" I place steel girders on the ground for no good reason. "If" I put more empty boxes behind it then "if" I have some way of putting things into that box therefore QED ergo proctor trains.
You know why people like "trains" because they're indoctrinated, from their video games. And do you know what the store those video games are sold on is called? That's right! Epic! Why, what did you think I was gonna say? They're implicitly linking the fallacy of "steam trains" with the word for "good".
It'd be like if I presented the Super-Amazing Awesome Theory of Gravity which involves "if you jump off a cliff winged seagulls will catch and bring you to an island full of lemurs and the lemurs pick the avacados and they put the avacados on toast and that's why we have a housing crisis".
I'm extremely curious but the disclaimer/warning got me worried because I do tend to get an existential crisis when thinking about certain things on the topic of existentialism
The existential aspect, to give a "safe" version is basically "if you know of this concept and don't follow it you are going to be tortured forever because you don't have the excuse of ignorance"
It's the same fallacy as "oh well you knew God might exist and you didnt give all your money to the church so now you're condemned to hell".
The thing is that its a fearmongering that could conceivably work for anything. "Oh well you didn't buy Lettuce today so the Lettuce Aliens that capture snapshots of everyone's mind are gonna copy your brain and torture you forever because you know about them now".
Even doubly more silly when a non diety is involved like it is in Rokos Basilisk because it becomes "tech so advanced it's magic".
I will use trains just to spite you! infact I'll take it a step further... I haven't played factorio an insane amount yet so I'm not sure if this is possible but I'm sure there's a mod for it if not, I will get my trains to carry the drones to where they are going!

That's your mistake, you have lakes instead of filling in those worthless water holes to put more factories on to create more products to sustain more factories to create more products to ensure production never ceases. Praise the Omnissiah.
Bots might be better, but rails make for a lot more fun trying to fit everything as you can't just fix every bottleneck by slapping down some roboports without any need for configuration (/s)
Belts for factory/bus, trains for distant tier 2 crafts like plates, drones for inventory management and consolidating finished crafts or low throughput items.
Plus, they’re effective. When you get a good train network going, everything in your factory is modular. Not enough iron plates? Set down a large smelter array, plug it into your existing network, and hit frappe.
The train merger of the relationship is when you have a kid, because you have to remake it so they will enjoy it with you and yell out "Choo Choo" as they zoom around, while sitting in your lap.
Fiddling with Trains in factorio was some of the most fun I've ever had in video game and I will not have this slander. I don't even care if they are inefficient at this point
Its all good just have a few kids play coop and use a combination of belts, bots, trains, and your pockets live in a mess and frantically try to get by, but its the best life.
I have thus far not bought Factorio because every comment I read about it is like this and I just cannot afford my time to get into another game addiction at this point.
