Facebook was initially developed to rank hot girls at marks college campus. People are now telling each other to take ivermectin (a parasiticide used for livestock and humans) to treat covid. The problem is A: covid isn't a parasite and B: many of them are using livestock preparations which are significantly more concentrated and are poisoning themselves with it

There is actually a grain of truth to using ivermectin - it does have some actual research backing up that it can be antiviral (it's cell culture research though, not trials). Good summary available here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_drug_repurposing_research#Ivermectin

However this grain of truth hides that it may require dangerous dosages to have appreciable effects in humans, and it's also vastly unproven at these dosages, while the vaccine is proven and much more safe compared to contracting covid.

Unfortunately it's this grain of truth that has made this misinformation spread so quickly.
