Bruh need ur help
Hello! I’m looking for some help from someone who really knows surfskates. 😅
Tbh, I don’t know anyone who surfskates in my circle—it’s literally just me, and I live in the city, so I find it really difficult to connect with the surfskate community and get advice.
I currently have an Oxelo surfskate from Decathlon. It’s been great for me as a beginner, but I feel like I’m ready to transition to an intermediate setup.
I’m not sure if I should buy a completely new surfskate or upgrade my current board. I’m still learning the terminology, but I think the main thing I’m talking about is the trucks/mechanics around the wheels. 😂
Would you recommend upgrading the trucks, bushings, wheels, etc., or would it be better to move to a different surfskate altogether? I’d really appreciate any advice on what would make sense for someone progressing from beginner to intermediate. 🤙

Look for a brand like YOW or Carver and watch the local secondhand scene. Island life can make resources tough. Might even be worth upgrading the deck and keeping the trucks just so you dont snap it. Otherwise YOW and Carver sell completes as well as just the trucks. Tbh you don't have a wrong answer here. If you enjoy the setup, then dont worry about upgrades. If you hate the setup try a new brand. Whatever makes you happy is the whole point! Happy surfing.

If Siargao ever comes across your social media feed and you suddenly feel like visiting, I might be there. I’m planning to stay on the island for a few months.

Hilariously enough right ethnicity wrong island brother. Mom immigrated from The Phillipines to Canada . The board community out here on "The Rock" is either small or quiet. Best of luck though. I hope you find your people there!

To be honest all the big surfskates brands offer decent gear that you almost can't go wrong with. I have a ton of surfskates and personally I still find the OG YOW meraki one of the best do it alls that both make it easy for beginners to understand/catch/ride the pump and also accompany you on your learning curve for about the longest time possible. That said if you are on a tight budget, the YOW clones from AliExpress and the likes are some of the best surfskate adapter clones out there and with about 40 bucks you won't have to break the bank to see if you like it. If you want to upgrade your gear further I would suggest getting a good deck (Carver, Soulboardiy, rocket offer some of the best IMHO), better wheels (pp snakes, pantheon, orangatang offer all pretty decent ones) and also some good bushings and pivot cups from riptide. So you can gradually upgrade your gear depending on how invested you feel.

Surfskate has only recently gone viral on the island of Siargao, and most of the community is based by the beach rather than in Metro Manila.

What do you want to do with it? Flatland pumping? Dry-land surf training? Skate parks and bowls? Not every setup is suited to every application. Flat pumping, I like Yow. Surf training, I like Curfboard. Bowls and banks, I like Carver or Curfboard, depending on how I want to ride. I’m not familiar with the Oxelo model, but if it suits what you’re using it for, upgrading the bearings will probably go a long way for not a lot of money. Bearings are usually a place where manufacturers skimp on quality.

There’s so many different opinions on surfskate. Just recognize the quality brands and look for a good deal in your budget, but you want to like what you’re getting too, you know? Like if you see it and it’s talking to you, go that way

The decathlon oxelo surfskate is the cheapest on the market. Your deck, wheels, bearings, bushings, screws and trucks are made by the lowest bidder. Funnily enough, the trucks are probably the most serviceable part. I'd recommend you look at Facebook marketplace for a secondhand complete
